DITBB continues to perform well in the “entertainment-to-production value ratio” category, as if that meant anything. This series looks like it was drawn by manga-school dropouts, yet it still manages to amuse more often than annoy, which is more than most series can brag about. I noticed that during close-ups or medium range shots, the characters tend to look decent, but as they get more distant (say, when you’re trying to capture all the characters in one screen), they tend to looks extremely cruddy, as if the artists had some kind of mental block that prevented them from drawing well from this perspective. Ughh, it really shows in this episode, where we have many room-wide shots of distorted characters.
Anyhoo, here we finally get to learn more about the whipped manager, who is the lowly slug on the totem pole. At home, he fools his daughter into thinking he is some kind of ultra-cool and suave crimefighter, but when she demands to go visit him at his workplace, he’s suddenly in a pinch. Seeing him get kicked around by his scantily clad female bosses would probably scar her for life. What to do….?
Manager-san comes up with a convoluted scheme to make himself look good, but will it work? Great DITBB episode, with plenty of goofiness and random acts of stupidity. We also get to see Maia’s cheesy scriptwriting skillz in action!
