R.O.D. 23

Although slow actionwise, this episode fills in a lot of the background behind Anita, Maggie, and Michelle and their origins. For those who don’t want to find out what happen, STOP READING NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now it’s safe to revisit what happens in this episode. Apparently, Anita was one of the first experiments by the British Library to see if it is possible to create non-book lovers that have paper powers. Anita was one of the first to be created, and seemingly was a failure at first. Ironically, the burning of the British Library “awoke” her powers so that she could later use paper, and Dokusensha had taken her away after raiding the burnt down library. However, Anita didn’t display the same stamina to use paper as that Naruto has with his chakura , so she was abandoned, and Dokusensha continued on with their own paper creations, which resulted in Maggie and Michelle. Via the law of equivalent trade from Full Metal Alchemist, the paper users created by Dokusensha could use paper well, but lacked social skills and were deficient in other aspects; however, they found that these paper uses lived happily with other “defective” paper uses. Quite an interesting twist in the ROD TV plot line as all three sisters now know the truth to their backgrounds.

Also, we finally know what Joker’s real name is as he introduced himself as “Joe Carpenter” in a world broadcast to explain transformations the British Library had for the world. It seems ironic that Joker’s ideals seem good as he wants the world to be able to share and trade information. Joker also gets the last laugh at the American president, as Joker acknowledged Great Britain as the center of this new world. Why is it that the American president always gets picked on in the ROD series?
