The little freaky talking doll from last time is actually Fool, the Spirit of the Stage; those who can see Fool have been chosen by the stage. As grand as Fool tries to make himself out to be, however, he’s treated as a mere hallucination by Sora. Even his attempts to peep on her in the shower are foiled. Sora’s got bigger fish to fry, as the other trainees in Kaleido Stage refuse to accept her. Her failures at ballet and her constant tardiness are exacerbated by the general perception that she’s Karlos’ girl and that she only got into Kaleido Stage because of her nanpa abilities. Sora tries to argue back, and foolishly mentions that one day she’ll even be able to do Layla’s difficult Golden Phoenix act. When Layla overhears this, she challenges Sora to perform the Golden Phoenix in a week or face expulsion!
Sora is definitely at her best when she’s faced with super difficult situations. Although her technical skill is still lacking, she makes up for it with her determination. I think what prevents her energy from crossing into the annoyance threshold is that she really suffers and fails a lot while she strives for her goal; I can definitely empathize with that. That, and she has kickass background music ^^. I was pretty amused at how catty all the women in Kaleido Stage can be. Even Mia shows her mean streak by making Sora clean the entire stage! In spite of these incredible harem like conditions, Ken still remains unable to attract Sora. On the other hand, if Ken were successful, I think policeman-san would castrate him. Poor Ken is stuck between a rock and a hard place. It’s only episode 2, and he’s already Sora’s boytoy…
