Another decent battle, I'm happy!
Summary:
Asemu's sister is the best looking girl in this show, hope to see more of her
With a rousing entrance ceremony, Asemu and Romery officially join the Federation forces. Under the command of his dad, Asemu is sent to serve aboard the Diva and is ordered to fly the Gundam, something which is resented by his fellow soldiers as favouritism.
To make her older, they added dimples. I approve
On the ship he meets Arisa Gunhale, daughter of Dique (now the Diva’s chief mechanic) who wants to be Asemu’s new best friend. Meanwhile we learn the Millais is the Diva’s captain, while Woolf is the mobile suit squadron commander.
Is it just me or do these guys almost seem like Zentradi? I feel like I'm watching Macross 7.
Back in the Vegan forces, Zeheart is promoted to be the new supreme commander of the Earth Occupation Forces, much to the consternation of his fellow soldiers who are not happy a child is now their commander.
Hoping she'll be a good female friend character instead of a fake love interest that gets KIA
Realizing that the Diva has the Gundam on board, Zeheart launches a reconnaissance attack. The Diva’s forces scramble, but the Gundam in it’s new AGE-2 transforming incarnation is not ready yet. With the new guys get their asses kicked by the Vegans with Woolf trying to save them all, Asemu finally shows up and singlehandedly destroys the rest of the Vegan forces, showing his new comrades once and for all why he gets to pilot the Gundam.
Arrogant at his fighting prowess, Asemu disobeys orders to save the Diva, and for that he is confined to quarters by captain Millias to end off the episode.
Reaction:
Did Vargas turn into a 1930s Japanese guy, or is he now an orthodox Jew?
Overall a decent episode. I hope that Arisa becomes a much better ‘best friend’ than Dique. Dique was almost a distraction side character who never seemed to do much. Considering she looks exactly like her dad, Arisa is not much of a looker, so she probably won’t be much of a love interest, so I’m hoping for an actually decent female pilot character. While she was pretty useless this episode, perhaps she will grow to become a formidable pilot in the episodes to come.
Overall, I do like the fact that the old cast has mostly been re-integrated into the show. While Emily has effectively been marginalized yet again (good riddance) and Largan nowhere to be seen (good thing, he was so useless), we have some key likeable characters returning which is always good. Here’s to some good Millais bridge boob-bouncing action.
I also like the dynamic of Asemu having to live up to his still living father’s expectations. Gundam shows never seem to have father figures that are alive for people to compare themselves to. I hope they never kill off Flit.

First image just made me think that that has to be the mecha equivalent of hitting into a double play.
DOUBLE KILL. Too much LoL for me.
They got double killed by Lux’s Ultimate
While she was pretty useless this episode, perhaps she will grow to become a formidable pilot in the episodes to come.
I can only hope, but this episode didn’t give me much reason to. She was rescued three freaking times in less than five minutes, even being taken hostage (who the fuck does that in this kind of situation?), which was noticeably and significantly more than either of her male companions. And she was the only one who’s mobile suit took visible damage. The show went the extra mile to show her being excessively useless and in need of help. With how this show has treated its female cast so far, it really can’t be written off as a coincidence.
You have a good point there. I really don’t know if she’ll become more or less useless, but now that she’s established as completely useless, she has nowhere to go but up!
I lawl’d.
Semi-random question: I haven’t ever watched a Gundam show, mainly since I’ve never cared much for mechas. But I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to trying one out some time. Would Gundam AGE be a decent choice for a mecha/Gundam noob? I kind of like the kiddish art style, and the concept of multiple generations.
Gundam AGE is the worst mecha series currently airing, and only not the worst currently airing show period because of Zero no Tsukaima F.
Go watch Rinne no Lagrange, if you want a good mecha show. Maru!
Oh yeah, the episode. Arisa has a personality! Lets see if they do anything with her (haha, fat chance, I know.)
And I had the exact same thought about Vargas’s outfit.
This is a tough question. While you’ll never top the best shows like Macross or Evangelion, it also doesn’t hurt to start with bad shows so if you plan to ever watch any more your expectations aren’t messed up… But either way if it’s your first, I might skip this show or else you’ll never watch mecha again!
yes now indeed age gundam has fallen & can’t take it anymore really better switch to HD version of GS right now.
at least it still got yea 10th year & still going while age is flop no more please.
The remastered SEED is okay, but I feel like I’m watching DVDs. They really didn’t try to put too much quality even in the drawings back then.
Heh, Noto Mamiko and Kawasumi Ayako as the two other bridge bunnies. Add in Kana Hanazawa as Romary, and that’s quite a line-up for folk who’ll likely never leave their stations.
WHAT ayako-mamiko also in it too?!
(still waiting for the ayako-mamiko yuri lesbian anime series) all we need now is ai kayano to be in it.
Well I remember Macross Frontier also had some quality bridge bunnies. The thing is though that considering there’s still one generation to go, these bunnies seem like complete throw away characters which is too bad.
I noticed Ayako too, how could I not? They must be trying to cash in on the AYAKO DOCTRINE.
