Shakugan no Shana Final 19

OMG, your fur is incredibly soft and supple!

Summary:

BAKA PUUUUUNCH!!!

The disagreement over Yuujevil’s grand plan somehow devolves into a lover’s quarrel and both Yuujevil and Sydonai chuckle about how bad they are with lolis women.  We then get some talk about Taimei Shihen (I thought that was just a teleportation spell…) and Corde, but none of it really matters because Kazumi is so disgusted watching guys fight over flat-chested girls that she asks Shana to cut her chain in order to commit suicide summon Pheles.

Although Sydonai is able to use his lance to make his own version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the tower is under serious assault and Pheles’ appearance is enough to muck everything up.  Suddenly it’s time for a JOHAN HIJACK as Johan pops out and tells Yuujevil that girls get sad when you aren’t selfish enough.  Besides, love is the ultimate deus ex machina.  There is then mention of the sky being a decoy and the ground being the real target.  The three Tomogara dressed as humans appear to help Kazumi, Johan, and Pheles get away, and for once the leaders of Balle Masque look concerned.

Reaction:

Kazumi, your love has created a mira-, OMG is that Johan?! OK BYE GUYS TEE HEE!!!

Wow, Pheles makes everything better.  From Pheles’ absurd sandy shoulder pads getting dirt in all the gears, to her tossing of Kazumi like a sack of potatoes even after talking up how beautiful Kazumi’s love and resolve were, to the the hilarious moment when Wilhelmina’s mask cracked as she realized she’d have to settle for Rebecca or become a spinster, Pheles was truly a storm that blew away the staleness of the first 18 episodes.  And even crazier was Johan coming in and schooling all these loser guys who can’t talk to women!  Johan lectured Yuujevil, applied a billion service patches and restarted Reiji Maigo, built a lovu lovu bridge for a van, and then even held the van door open for Pheles.  I think the van door part was what really just devastated Wilhelmina.

I thought it was interesting that the Giralda doesn’t kill you if you aren’t ADD about your wishes.  In fact, if you are obsessed and resolute enough, you can even cast unrestricted spells while remaining human and alive!  Finally, Kazumi’s obsession with Yuuji came in handy!  I’m still in the dark as to whether the Hyakki Yakou was just for a getaway, and what the full extent of Johan’s plan was, but for once I was excited to finish an episode.  On the downside, the plot still didn’t really make any sense, except perhaps the part about Flame Hazes being racist against Tomogara.

Oh god Pheles is so awesome. I also loved Johan telling Yuuji that he’s a moron.

And then the van! THE VAN!

Only problem this episode is that we were, STILL, cheated out of seeing the professor get whacked. CAN HE DIE PLEASE!?

Edit: Oh yeah, and lolz at no one loving Wilhelmina.

Dantalion is annoying, but you have to give him his props. He does all the R&D as well as all the IT work. He got Seireiden up and running in just a few minutes. If only the IT at work was that fast.

Wilhelmina heartbreak is like a running gag at this point. Not even neko-mask can contain her tears.

Wilhelmina needs to stop falling in love with straight girls.

Kabitzin February 20, 2012 at 8:16 am

Straight men, too.

If only the IT at work was that fast.

Be careful what you wish for – they might become as crazy and annoying as Dantalion.

Well this is an interesting change from the LN for once.

Huh, that is a pretty major change. Can’t say I mind it though.

I’ve always thought that someone on the staff was a big Kazumi fan though.

Wow JC Staff actually made an anime original change that was better for once. A real miracle!

Haha, although then it would be like why didn’t Pheles just take the van?

Poor Wilhelmina! ;_; The good thing though is that this gives Rebecca an opening through the crack in her defences.

I always love Marina Inoue doing comedic heroine roles (though in SnS, it’s probably unintentional comedy) – her voicing of Pheles, esp the Kazumi toss, has not disappointed. I also loved the WTF look on Yuujevil’s face as the Kombi sped off.

It was also hilarous how Kazumi was touched by Sydonai x Hecate – if only she knew about Hecate having had to constantly fend off Metamorphosis’ thousand lolicon advances! Also LOL at Syndonai telling Bel Peol to duck before sending his Shintetsu Nyoi to hold up the tower – I was thought he hated the “uncute old hag” and this was a perfect opportunity to pin her down.

I’d totally forgotten that Pheles was Inoue Marina, though it was quite obvious this episode. And I think a good portion of the humor with her is intentional.

I wonder why it is that Pheles didn’t want to follow Johan’s plan. I assume this means that Johan will be sacrificing himself to mess with the Reiji Maigo, but on the other hand Pheles got to spend some time with him while riding in the van. Is there any way that Pheles and Johan are not making out in the backseat while everyone else tries to pretend that the situation is not completely awkward? I say no.

It was also hilarous how Kazumi was touched by Sydonai x Hecate – if only she knew about Hecate having had to constantly fend off Metamorphosis’ thousand lolicon advances!

I know, haha! That was supposed to be romantic, but every time Sydonai tried to say something about “his” priestess, Hecate just narrowed her eyes angrily and verbally lashed him. BTW, this whole ring-weapon thing doesn’t make any sense; I think Shana is just trying to get Yuuji to propose to her or something.

Sydonai: I made it that way so that it would be really inviting and comfy for Hecate to frolick in. But she never took me up on it. And now she never will. *tears behind the sunglasses*

*tears behind the sunglasses*

Knowing Sydonai, they would probably literally be crocodile tears.

And I’m so far behind on this series I just barely caught up. I’m already missing Hecate so badly but we did get some Pheles luv baby! Kinda glad they saved Kazumi (I’m a fan of her, just not doormat girls in general though…). A few more episodes to go!
