One thing this arc has is pretty good fights, I can live with that
Summary:
Too late, Romery, too late. Even if only for a second, full-blown fanserivce in Gundam was unexpected! Short hair or not...
It’s been a year since Zeheart has infiltrated the school, and on one last school trip Asemu manages to save school trouble maker Abus who has wondered off on his own outside the colony.
For some reason when I saw this scene, I thought of the movie Legally Blonde
With that it’s time for graduation, and when Asemu and Zeheart are invited to do a speech in front of the graduating class, Abus triumphantly carries him up. Before they can finish, the military suddenly arrives to arrest Zeheart on suspicion of being a Veigan spy. While Asemu tries to vehemently defend his friend, Zeheart remains silent while his blue-haired companion quickly creates a diversion which gets the military to chase him.
Look who's back, now with mutton chops
Zeheart manages to sneak out after, and together with his companion they take off on their mobile suits. Asemu eventually gets wind of it, and goes out to meet them in the Gundam, not realizing that his friend is truly the enemy. After a short battle, Zeheart manages to beat Asemu with his X-Rounder skills, and exits his mobile suit, revealing his true identity. He tells Asemu to give up trying to join the military because he is too kindhearted and to do something else with his life, or else they will be enemies on the battlefield.
Reaction:
I thought it was a bit odd for the series to suddenly jump a year into the future. While we get a nice photo montage of Zeheart hanging out with the gang, we never really get a true sense that he really is part of the crew. Perhaps it’s his ‘evil guy’ voice, or the fact that we know he’s a spy, either way it’s obvious he does not belong. The only real sense we get is that Romary seriously likes the two guys. Whether or not that will lead to any actual tension in the future I kinda doubt it.
I sense that they decided to give some sort of sense that Asemu and Zeheart are best friends forced to fight on opposite sides, but Athrun and Kira they are not. We never see any true motivation for the Veigan forces aside for them being slighted 100 years ago and deciding that murdering innocent civilians is the way to go which really doesn’t engender them to us. We also never really see Zeheart being much of a friend to Asemu, except for the fact that he doesn’t kill Asemu outright but all that shows is that Zeheart isn’t a cold-blooded killer.
Either way, expect Asemu to fully ignore Zeheart telling him to be a soldier and join the military the next episode. Perhaps Woolf will be his tutor!
I thought it was stupidly hilarious how easily the military guys gave up on arresting Zeheart. For them to come to the graduation and arrest him in front of everyone means that they probably had some very solid evidence and decided that that day was the best day to arrest the guy. For them to so quickly abandon that and chase the blue haired guy is pretty ridiculous. You’d think at least one person would stay behind to arrest Zeheart while the other two chased the blue hair guy. Oh well, this show never makes that much sense anyway.

This is quite literally all it has.
These last three episodes are easily among the worst set of TV Gundam episodes ever, right down there with Moon Moon from ZZ. The writing has just been appallingly bad on every level.
But at least it can only go up from here, right?
Right!?
I don’t know if was as bad as you say it was. I’d easily take any of these episodes over the mess that was the last 30 episodes of Gundam SEED Destiny any day!
No way! Destiny was terrible, sure, but it was terrible in a fantastically entertaining sort of way, and it certainly never wasted our time with bullshit like these three episodes.
AGE is just bad in a bad and boring way. If it weren’t Gundam I’d certainly have dropped it.
Rewatching 00, for the third time. Say what you will about plot and whatever, but there wasnt a single bad fight scene. Not a single one. And i’m still amazed at what they did with editing, directing, plus the stellar soundtrack doesnt hurt. Will anyone ever be able to say that about AGE in a few years ? Even normal shounen stuff like Naruto is way ahead of this show. First 50 episodes of Naruto were great ! Normal up to about 110. Good enough to about 130.
I get the kid angle, and the tiny budget, but there is so much you can do even without stellar animation, if you actually wanted to. But i guess the whole point of this show is that we will get all kinds of games out of it and stuff…collect 30 nuts&bolts from defeated enemies so that AGE system can build you a new gun…*sigh*
I think the whole Gundam universe has gotten a lot too ‘adult’ as of late. For us older people who like giant robots there’s always the next episode of Unicorn to wait for. It’s nice to have some kiddy shows to bring in the new fans.
I’m actually pleasantly surprised at this show. I thought it would be massively more kiddy than it is.
