Guilty Crown 16

trust me

Summary:

Dark times for everyone. Kuhouin has agreed to marry his granddaughter off to a fat cat from Shanghai to try to save Japan, so he sends in the ex-Funeral Parlor guys to the school to take care of her extraction. And what Argo sees there pretty much blows his mind.

The New Shoe, obsessed with Void ranking, grossly abusing his power, and wearing a Gai scarf, has instituted a thinly veiled fascist society — complete with his own secret police and armbands that are not at all obvious. Rank F’s are stuck doing dangerous work like retrieving stores of vaccine from a shipwreck. Argo’s arrested by Shu’s Schoolgirl SS and while he languishes in a makeshift holding cell, Ayase tries to get through to Shu. It’s too late for him, though: he feels stuck in his position, unable to show sympathy or emotions in his quest to keep everyone together and safe. It’s also the only way to effectively keep order amidst the anarchy happening around him. And after that brief break, he’s back to Führer.

YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP

Tsugumi manages to break Argo out, but Shu learns of it quickly, and a showdown — appropriately, at the site of Shu and Yahiro’s early confrontation — ensues. In the melee, Shu’s bodyguard’s Void is broken and (surprise, surprise) she goes kaput. A new wrinkle? Well, they are basically souls, after all. So now Shu knows the truth of Hare’s death, and he pretty much cracks. Again. So where’s Inori in all this? Making herself useful, of course, and it looks like Arisa’s not gonna have to marry the Chinese guy.

Reaction:

*cracks PBR* yeah I was pretty into Voids before it was cool

Well. I was surprised to see that Shu could transform the school so quickly into the totalitarian wonderland it became. My biggest problem with that is not the ridiculousness of the situation but the fact that we’re probably only going to get this one episode of balls-out darkity-dark nonsense. Personally I love the crazy idiotic Despair of the whole thing; plus it reminds me of the second half of Pink Floyd the Wall, when Pink (Bob Geldof) becomes shut in his own mind and goes similarly fascistic.

Inori has gotten extra disturbing lately. Her question to Shu, “Am I what you need?” makes her seem more self-aware and perhaps, human. And that makes her brutal assassination of Arisa that much more chilling.

THE BROKEN MIRROR SYMBOLIZES yeah you've watched anime before I'm pretty sure you know what the deal is here

The revelation that destroying a Void kills its host was pretty underwhelming. I can’t even vaguely imagine a world in which Gai didn’t know that. However, speaking of Gai. What is going on in GHQ’s secret labs with Haruka and this hunk of abs that looks suspiciously like him? What about the talk that Shu is playing right into the destiny they’ve defined for him? Is it really that time in the series when anime writers are contractually obligated to go full Evangelion?

People seem to think I'm some sort of classy mecha fan. But the horrible truth is that I secretly wish all giant robots were piloted by pink-haired moe girls in thigh-highs and twin-tails. I expect no one to trust my judgment, so my main goal is to entertain.

I think, we’ll be seeing one or maybe 2 more episodes of this. Argo and Yahiro mentioned something about taking arms against GHQ, therefore their little scuffle at the school gym. Plus, Gai seems to be coming back and Arisa seemingly dead for now. I get the feeling tha Mana will be re-surfacing soon enough.

Regarding the episode in general, well…Shu still shows great uncertainty. It seems his state of affairs is run by Yahiro and he goes along with it due to the trauma. He’s doesn’t seem -at least, not yet- cold, hard and practical like a Tyrant, rather his actions stem out from the bitterness he experienced when Hare died. It’s like he is using his position of power just to take some measure of vengeance against the Rank F individuals, keeping himself in a cocoon. It was telling when he asked Argo “then why don’t you suggest a better solution?”. Looks like dark days ahead to me :0

yeah that moment with Argo was probably more revealing than his whole conversation with Ayase — it told me that under extreme compound stress, he’s not quite capable of keeping up his hard image. Shu has always had a hard time with confidence, and wearing a scarf like Gai’s is just more proof that he doesn’t believe he has what it takes; he’s just bitter as you say and he thinks he’s doing what he has to.

I’m I the only one that got a “Mana” vibe from Inori when she killed Arisa? Maybe part of Mana’s soul/consciousnesses got inside Inori when they were trying to resurrect her.

Yeah that seems like quite the possibility, with all the shenanigans they’re getting up to in the gene labs.

I was pretty much thinking back to the fairly recent “Inori vs Yuno” vote. Betcha all those Inori voters see that Yuno is the much better choice since you know for sure she’s nuts about you baby, where as Inori hides it away until proper release of craziness. Anyways I’ve finally caught up to this episode and just waiting for the next to roll around. Poor Shoe, The your cloned sister still wants to jump your bones except she’s a bit less genetically related to you perhaps? Mana is ALIVE!!!!!

Yeah Inori is totally turning into Mana…again? Maybe something like that.

Shoe is becoming Mana’s “King”. So yeah Lost Christmas part…3? Are we up to 3?

Ohhhhh man the best part of this episode?! Evil Inori! That was amazing! But I saw the preview for 17 and it looked like Arisa was still alive, seems strange there is a shot of a crowd of students and in the left side you can see Arisa holding her ball void! Maybe that was a animation error? But I saw it on Random C.

Anyway ZOMBIE GAI!? I hope he punches Shu in the face and walks off…

Well nobody seemed to miss those students that Inori messed up back in episode 14 when they were looking for Funeral parlor members. I wonder if she just turned them to dust or they’re still alive an just got beat up so badly they lost their memory.

Grampy Kuhoin sent out his personal assistant!!! And who the hell won that chess game?!

As for Shu Point Oh, he used to be so gentle with the Void fisting… Arisa had to be pretty upset to see the fate of those with a broken Void, considering the only thing her Void does it take hits. I guess Mana really did get downloaded to Inori.
