"Darn that Kabitzin doesn't wanna trade series with me!! I'll show him!! Why, I'll reference him in all forthcoming Nichijou posts... FOREVER!!!"
Since Mio forgot her math homework at home (*BA DUM PSH*), Yukko goes to school by herself. A few steps later, she meets up with Mai-chan who completely ignores her. On their way to school, Yukko apologizes for all the mean things she did, like eat her broccoli and burn her Maitreya Buddha. Later, she finds out Mai wasn’t ignoring her at all; she simply had her earphones on (but still heard the whole thing).
"YO pass dat SEED mah Twi... HEY, YOU'RE REHASHING CAPTIONS AGAIN!!!"
"REHASH-POLICE HERE!!!" – "Crap, the Popo! SCATTER!!!"
As mentioned earlier in the episode, Yukko didn’t do her math homework, so she begs Mai-chan for assistance. Mai-chan, who’s still mad about her Maitreya Buddha, doesn’t lend her the worksheet. Instead, she gives Yukko an award-winning story of The Adventures of Masao being chased by a Cheetah. Long story short, Nano the Robot and Chibi-Scientist debate which part of Sakamoto is the fluffiest. Also, Shortened-Long-Story-Made-Shorter: Mai-chan and Yukko arm-wrestle to the death. The End.
*insert Asian joke here*

Impressions:
I see, so this was a Yukko x Mai-centric episode? EXCELLENT… except it sort of goes downhill after the midpoint. I loved Yukko’s confessions (poor Maitreya Buddha!), I liked Mai’s Masao story (I’d fund it!), but I didn’t like Sakamoto the Cat’s back-story. I guess the rock-paper-scissors / jump rope scene left a bad taste in my mouth… Yes, you heard correctly: for the first time, I didn’t like the rock-paper-scissors or jump rope scene. They best find a new running gag! THIS IS WHY YOU DON’T REHASH CAPTIONS unless they’re super funny of course…
I’m not a big fan of Nichijou x Azumanga Daioh comparisons, but this time I’ll bite: Sakamoto the Cat gave me some weird Otou-san (also a cat) vibes. His mannerisms just seemed very Otou-san-like. Not this type of cat, but sorta like it. I think. Maybe I should write more useless nonsense to make this paragraph seem bigger? And by bigger that would be a compliment to the Asian-joke caption above! Yes yes! *writes this down* This will be perfect! Kabitzin will be proud!
Did anyone understand this scene? I laughed regardless, but I wish there were some translation notes or something. Also, SHE DIDN’T HAVE EAR-PHONE STRINGS EARLIER!!! CAN’T PLAY ME LIKE THAT, A SEA SLUG’S EYE SEES ALL!!! And speaking of eyes (but really, I mean “EARS“), was it just me or did I hear “Take Five” play at the end of the episode? If so, OHHHHHH MANNN that brings back some good ol’ elementary school band memories~. Interestingly enough, Take Five first appeared on The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s 1959 album Time Out. And if you couldn’t tell, the year includes the number One, Five, and Nine and also another Nine but let’s ignore that.
One final note: THE BOW IS A LIE!!! My School-Girl Uniform Bow-Tie dreams are RUINED!!! EDIT: OH MAN I forgot one more thing: THIS!! That brings even more elementary school band memories! If you’ve never played The Button on a String toy, do so now! EDIT 2: Opps, I guess it’s called a Buzzer…
"Yo, I need someone to cover Nichijou 04 for me. Think you Slugs can handle it?"
"Don't worry J, we got this. You go and finish those Finals!"
"Yeah, and just in case you need more time, use the Hyperbolic Time Chamber." – "But that would mean doing Finals for a whole year..." – "Well, considering you take just as long to finish a post (DAYUUUUUUUUUMMM), I don't see why not?!" – "Let me guess, you're Kabitzin?" – "That I am."

I don’t know why writers don’t share series more often. Orion and Guff’s joint blogging format at the Epic win blog used to be my favorite. Too much coordination needed?
Funny you should mention that;
me and ZylZyl and I once discussed that very topic (I believe it was during the end of the K-ON era). That idea has evolved into the “First Impressions” format, but I do admit it’s not quite on par with Orion and Guff’s sporting-event commentary. Perhaps I’ll raise the topic in the next Sea Slug Staff meeting. Until then, stay tuned!Un/fortunately, this can lead to super-long posts (e.g. when EO, Crusader and I recently did this after fighting over what to blog), but it’s nice to see different perspectives, I guess, and I certainly would be interested in seeing something like that here…
Oh man Yukko, I couldn’t believe she burnt the statue in the end. Poor statue, it was broken, buried, altar-ed and then burned. How could a friend do that!!!
J159 you flander-mander, how could you. I still loved that part, (mainly because I”m actually trying to learn it, “first comes ROCK”)
Robot girl (or android) is as adoarble as ever, her expressing how happy she is to Sakamoto-san. ANd that little genius girl is actually 8 years old!!!
NOoo, my
(So that’s what happens when you pull on them. That’s actually pretty smart considering it no longer a choking harzard.)
perverteddreams are dead now.THat song at teh end, I knew it sounded familiar!!!
LAKMEWL KJAW WJ WA that scene was hilarious!! Seriously, what is wrong with Yuuko?! She could’a just used krazy glue!! Also, she probably owes Mio more than 26 juices…
Well I didn’t HATE it; I just thought it was stale. Stale things can be good, like Working! (ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh snap!!) Since we’re being honest here, I too am learning the jankenpo dance! I can only attempt it with a mirror, though…
Hahaha WTH?!… but knowing Japan, it’s probably the case…
These episodics are nuttier than the series.
Haha, I’m pretty sure I laugh harder at J159′s posts than I do at the actual show. And I do laugh quite hard at the show.
*blush*
FIXED, Mr Nintendo Thirteen 64!!
Not as insane as the other episodes but damn that talking cat was great again hahaha xD
Good work on the caps!
We DON’T TAKE KINDLY TO TALKING CATS!!! *shakes fist* Hope they can do more with Sakamoto-san… before he SUCKS-some-more-to-san… =3
I can’t wait for [INSERT SEA SLUG WRITER HERE]‘s Nichijou 04 post! I’ll be off studying, but yeah, can’t wait!
I thought the same, it’s almost, but not quite Take Five at the end.
BAND GEEKS ASSEMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
I kept replaying it for clues, but it just seems like a random insert…. UNTIL I SAW THIS!!! and then THIS!!!… but that’s just a wild stretch. Hopefully the official OST will give us some clues.
Btw, if you’re wondering where that “RE-HASH” caption came from: it was first featured in my Bakuman 02 post (it had similar brown birds so I used that joke again… haha)
but I didn’t like Sakamoto the Cat’s back-story
B-b-but… he’s SO FLUFFY! *Squeals more than Hakase and Nano did. Again.*
