Okamisan and Seven Companions 10 O7C10 02

The quick blonde fox pulled the wool over the wolf and hood's eyes

Summary:

Someone’s been spreading nasty rumours about the Otogi Bank and Liszt decides to pile up the loans for a rainy day. There’s a huge response to the 30% discount window and all members are fully occupied – including Liszt who seems to be continuing his negotiations with the Student Council through Momo-chan-senpai.

Ryoko and Ringo pick up Kokonoo Reiko who claims to be feeling Shiro’s goons after she got dumped and betrayed by him. Ryoko is immediately on her side and even tries to arrange for her to transfer from Onigashima to Otogi Academy. Liszt asks Ringo to keep an eye on Reiko. With Ryoshi preoccupied with secret training provided by Neko Boy, Liszt falls back on Tsuragaya to back Ringo up. But the various operations-side Otogi Bank members are then simultaneously disabled or distracted, allowing Reiko to taser Ryoko and take her back to Onigashima.

Reaction:

We’re finally back on track with the main driver of this series – though most of this episode was extremely predictable and it was quite frustrating to see how the Otogi Bank reacting predictably to the various events and thus playing into Shiro’s hands. While everything was consistently scripted, it always frustrates me when supposedly fearsome organizations fall for obvious feints and suffer from bad intelligence lapses (cf. Ga-Rei Zero).

One cliche that I would welcome is Shiro tossing Reiko aside once he thinks she has served his purpose and then the scorned nine-tailed fox helping turn the tables on him. I suspect that she is helping him not so much out of malice against the Otogi Bank but because she really does love him and thinks that he returns those feelings, thus making her ‘different’ from Ryoko and the treatment meted out to her. Perhaps little does she know…

I did admire how almost every Otogi Bank member was targeted, in order to separate them from Ryoko, with something very dear to them which drew on what we learnt from the earlier filler-like episodes. Ryoshi wanting to improve his melee skills and get over his fear of being seen in order to protect Ryoko, Ringo rushing to see if Himeno’s seven siblings were alright and Tarou being presented with Otohime’s purse.

At this point, the best I’m hoping for is that, over the next two concluding episodes, we will find out what exactly happened between Ryoko and Shiro and get a conclusion that allows Ryoko to break free from her past and live in the present and for the future. But, in any case, I’m just glad that the end is in sight.

I have a penchant for Bishoujo, Oneesama and Yuri character dynamics. Genre-wise I enjoy drama and satire; tilt-wise I am terribly weak against self-consciously arty farty styles and reference humour. Sieg Lunamaria!

I was curious to see Puss in Boots’ sudden appearance to right Ryoushi’s problem. With every main character getting plenty of time for development; about time to close the Kyoko/Ryoushi chapter in flying colours!

Puss in Boots looks like (or he probably is) that catboy Ryoko rescued from bullies way back in the flashback in episode 6. Perhaps he leveled up in badass after being inspired by Ryoko, and is now returning the favor by level-boosting Ryoushi?

@ Skribulous

I was wondering if the catboy was in league with Shiro but he didn’t have any malicious air or the standard cliches warning about him being an enemy. Thanks for pointing out the flashback – sounds much more plausible now that he is helping Ryoshi to help Ryoko in return.

Jeez, it was painful to watch this episode end in a cliffhanger. (I was left high and dry) And I want to know what part the puss in boots has to do with this whole scheme.

I’ll just glad that the end is in sight.

I’ll be glad if I get to see Okami-san punch the living daylights outta Shiro, and claims Ryoshi as her man. :)

Still think it’s better if Momo-chan-senpai (or Ringo) claims Ryoko as her kitten-chan (or personal big bad wolf). :P

I’m not fond of Usami in general and her initial plan of exacting revenge on the Otogi Bank but I thought it was pretty awesome how she rescued Alice when she realized the situation they were in was not as “harmless” as she thought it was.

Same here, I’m relieved the story is now back on track. I used to think they spent too much time on the plot fillers but I agree those served the good purpose of underlining the relationships between each of the characters and how that was exploited by Hitsujikai in this episode. Tho’ I would have preferred it if they had dedicated most of any episode to the main characters instead of random one-off(?) guests like Chuutarou.

the next two concluding episodes

Whoa!? That’s pretty quick, though with the recent lackluster episodes I’d say good riddance! Not only are the cliches so predictable, the half-assed fairy tale (kitty-tail!) inclusion and the forced drama (aka: this entire episode and the majority of Okamisan) leave a bad taste in my mouth. I should’a known the Japs would ruin our GREAT AMERICAN CULTURE!!! The Three Little Fat-Ass Pigs deserved BETTER!!!
