Once we have RAWR pose, we'll be all set to be the new Gaijin 4koma

Okamisan and Seven Companions 08 O7C08 13

Momo-chan-senpai is welcome anytime to the Zaku Zero G (DD) Space Colony

Summary:

Ryoko, Ryoshi and Ringo are enlisted to assist shouta heir Chuutarou Nezumi to find a bride. They work through most of the female cast (including minor characters) but the boy’s faithful butler Hammel ends up antagonizing each and everyone of them by pointing out why they are unsuitable in the most untactful and outrageous ways. After an extended exposition on boobs as a criterion, which manages to antagonize both the well-endowed and the less well-endowed, Chuutarou rediscovers his true love – the loli stalker Uika. Liszt is forced to buy a lot of expensive cakes to soothe the hurt feelings of the girls.

Sandwiching this is a movie about the same trio against three stinky pigs – who are eventually defeated by evil loli yuri. Go Ringo go!

What happened to the serious business back story and dramatic developments?

As time goes by (A kiss is just a kiss)

Reaction:

JC Staff was clearly having fun with the Mahoromatic, ToraDora and Railgun references and while I was indeed amused, this episode at this point in time was not the best timed – I had just come around to accepting Ryoko x Ryoshi vs Shiro as the main plot driver and would have liked to see them build on the information introduced thus far and to continue to create momentum for a strong ending. But it looks like I will have to moderate my expectations (i.e. reset them back close to zero) for more randomness and then a rushed and inconclusive (or even worse WTF) ending.

I half suspected that Hammel was deliberately sabotaging the entire bridal search (not because he was a fan of childhood friends but) because he actually desired Chuutarou-sama (in a dress) for himself. I blame Takai from Arakawa Under The Bridge for having this thought. His takedown of Momo-chan-senpai was incredible though – verily it’s hard to trump the Life Experience card. It was also nice to see (and hear) Momo-chan-senpai again though it would be even better if she had used her whip or hit on Ryoko again. Speaking of the latter, kudoes to Ringo stealing that kiss from Ryoko – full-on lip lock and tongue FTW. If Ringo keeps this (and her evil aura) up, she might just get my vote for Best Girl.

I have a penchant for Bishoujo, Oneesama and Yuri character dynamics. Genre-wise I enjoy drama and satire; tilt-wise I am terribly weak against self-consciously arty farty styles and reference humour. Sieg Lunamaria!

Oh Haruhi, the butler was REALLY enjoying himself. “My soul name is Sebastian!” indeed… Given the sheer amount of knowledge he had about ren’ai stereotypes, one has to wonder how much “experience” the old coot has in the arena of relationships. Was he, at one time, a harem lead in a forgotten 90s-era harem anime?

He is probably the distilled essence of the otakuness of the entire JC Staff production crew for this series haha.

His reasoning that elevated enormous breasts and the bait and switch to the pettan Delicious Flat Chest was masterly on so many levels…

I would have to say, this is probably the only time an anime has made me scream like a little school girl (I think). JESUS OMG, I felt like I lost 10 years in me because of this episode. The butler is insane, age has made him senile, or at least verbally abusive. He definitely has some major balls for all the things he said. Still I’m pretty impressed by all the ups and downs he was able to come up with, and some seemed pretty valid.

The beginning caught me off guard, but nothing surprised as much (except for the kiss) as seeing many of the JC Staff references in here. I really enjoyed it.

We [must] make videos of these precious moments in our fandom and compile them for great justice and squeness!

The way JC Staff has gone about has disarmed a lot of my grumpiness about this series. It’s hard to be SRSBZNS RAEG at them when they’re showing that they’re not taking it too seriously. Certainly haven’t lost that touch which also levelled up my appreciation of Shakugan no Shana (through Shana-tan) and even the Index anime (through Index-tan).

kudoes to Ringo [for taking what is rightfully hers]

Sorry, it looked like you had a typo there so I fixed it.

I have faith in Momo’s ability to continue to defy the laws of physics, and I approve of your plan to have her salve her wounds with Ryoko (it helps that Ringo is also on board with this). I have also given up on this show actually following through with the serious momentum, and now just hope that Ryoko eventually discovers the yuri goodness that has been right under her nose this whole time.

Oh and I was totally betting on you to feature that delicious yuri lip locking scene somehow but great to see you linking and referencing it nonetheless!

Anyway, I’ve kinda lost interest in the main plot after a series of detours. I found Ringo’s dodgy movie to be far more entertaining than the meat of this episode, and that’s gotta say something. But, and I’ll say but, if they keep serving the same kind of “please don’t take this srsly” entertainment a la Otogi Bank versus the 3 Stinky Pigs, they may just win a watching streak from me until the end. With that, Ringo is currently holding tight onto the Best Chara gong in my book. ;P
