Amagami SS 09 09 01

This vagina-shaped coin purse is so soft!

Summary:

Amagami SS 09 09 02

I love what you've done with your hair, Miya

Timid new freshman, Nakata Sae, spots Junichi bumping into Haruka, but before she can tell him about his dropped tarako coin purse, he runs off.  Masayoshi is stuck doing physics homework during lunch, so Junichi offers to buy his buddy bread, but then realizes that he lost his purse.  Sae returns it to Junichi, but then shyly runs away before he can thank her.  Fortunately, Miya easily identifies the timid, twin-tailed, busty little girl immediately and introduces the two formally.  Miya also mentions, rubbing Sae’s chest may bring good luck.

Later when Junichi helps the terrified Sae cross past a small puppy behind a gate, the two end up visiting the cafe that Kaoru works at.  Sae loves the uniforms there, but isn’t sure she’d be able to carry food and talk to customers.  Naturally, Junichi volunteers to help her.  The initial going is rough, with Junichi getting his crotch scalded, but it’s all balanced by the fact that he gets to feel up her tummy for vocal exercises and feel her chest and thighs after losing in piggyback janken (with Sae winning by gratin, of course).

Yes, you shall bring great fortune to the Tachibana family

There are several parts of this episode that did not make sense.  First off, if Sae is so new that she just got her uniform, how is it that she is so familiar with Miya (unless they went to the same middle school)?  Why would they brew scalding coffee for that carrying exercise, when they could have just used water?  Why didn’t they get Narrator-san if they needed an annoying, fourth wall breaker?  Why wouldn’t Junichi just let Masayoshi copy his homework?

I didn’t love this episode, as it seemed rather different from the other episodes, and the production values took a noticeable dip.  Sae was alright, and I can see how it will be heart-warming to watch Junichi raise up her confidence.  Poor Miya, though.  She thought frightened little Sae could never capture Junichi’s heart, but I could see the panic on Miya’s face as she realized that all Tachibanas love large meat buns.

I was thinking, ‘Why even use a cup at all? Why not something more familiar, like a tarako coin purse on a plater.’ The narrator at the beginning immediately changed tone of this episode too.

The way this show is structured, I could easily see the producers reserving budget and effort put into writing for the more popular heroines. What I mean is that since each arc is essentially a separate story, there’s a lot more potential for decline in writing quality and production values depending on the current arc; it’s only natural that they’d want to put more money and effort into the arcs which involve the more popular heroines, to boost ratings.

Maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention in the two previous arcs, but it seems to me that Sae got a serious upgrade in the chest area…. This episode was okay, but I really felt teased by the obvious production drop-off. I mean, if they’re going to follow in White Album‘s footsteps, where is my Yayoi analogue, and when does the bad stuff start? I feel like they’re toying with my emotions.

The one thing that really stood out to me this episode, other than Sae’s chest, is that Miya is getting more awesome the more we see of her. In Haruka’s arc it looked like she was super clingy, but here and in Kaoru’s arc she’s made it her job to expose all of Junichi’s secrets and embarrass the hell out of him. I totally approve of this, and hope to see more of it in the future.

“Do you know a girl with hair like *this*?”

“Yes, that’s Ramona Flow-, I mean Nakata Sae.”

In any case, my favourite part of this otherwise crappy episode is when the dog watches Sae run away as if it’s confused. I can almost hear in the ensuing barks: “Hey, man!? What’s her deal!?”

That or Junichi’s eyebrow after Kaoru teases the pair.

Also every time Miya laughs, I think of Francesca from Strike Witches. This is a good thing.

The narrator sucks, though.

Also, that whole scene with the dog would have been much funnier if there had been a nameplate by the gate with “Morishima” on it, and the (replacement) dog had totally mauled Touya Junichi in front of a horrified Sae.

Nice Scott Pilgrim reference, Matt.

I don’t think I will EVER get used to Sae’s voice. I know anime voices are exaggerated anyways but that’s taking it to another level. And is Sae’s chest supposed to be that big? It didn’t look like that until this arc began. D:

Junichi has already run into higher levels of stupid and shamelessness in this episode alone.

We might as well have Satomi Arai do the narration indeed. She can just talk over everyone for the whole episode. >_>

@SirusRiddler: I don’t know, judging by the preview I think he’s going to take it up another notch.

Guess those jackets do a good job at repressing Sae’s chest the student’s morals.

As for the episode in general, its ok. I’m actually enjoying Junichi’s silliness, and can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the next episode. “Training”…..kukukuku can’t wait!! On another note, I’m a bit worried about Sae, Junichi really is going to have a blast with her (,makes me kinda jealous). Still they really like to tease us with Haruka, when she appears I get excited that something going to happen. And with Kaoru, I find myself feeling a bit sad. Junichi and her can’t be together.

And here I thought I don’t have to follow this series after Sexhair’s arc. Now I have to watch this for Miya.

First off, if Sae is so new that she just got her uniform, how is it that she is so familiar with Miya (unless they went to the same middle school)?

She’s obviously in Miya’s harem. Which also explains why Miya lowered her guard and pretty much handed Sae over to her Nii-nii, not realizing until it was too late.

I wonder now, what would happen if Haruka ever found out about Sae…

Maybe I wasn’t paying attention but I seriously thought the whole time the purse belonged to Haruka.

So first girl was obsessed with dogs, second was normal and the third is scared of them. Junichi and Sae were training so hard they completely forgot Miya was supposed to be the customer. ;)
A fix for Junichi’s perverted psyche, checked. Maybe next episode we get some information about Sae other than “shy, has breasts, transfer student”

I totally agree about the Satomi Arai comment.

Also while watching this, I kept thinking to myself, that it would be cool if somehow they used a different director for each arc. Anyone see Uta~Kata or Gigantic Formula where the director used a different magical girl and mecha design from a famous designer each episode?

Imagine if various arcs featured different directors. So like you’d have the Hideki Anno arc, the Kenji Kamiyama arc, the Goro Taniguchi arc, and the Yukhiro Miyamoto arc… so awesome and ridiculous at the same time that it could work!

First I’m going to say I want to get a purse like Junichi’s.
But seriously I also dislike the Narrator during this episode. To me the each arc has gotten worse and worse. Idk I prob just skim this arc cuz Sae seems more like a lil sister than a girl friend. Idk if that’s just me.

Given how Junichi first saw Sae alighting from her care and her idea of part-time work as cosplay fun, I’d gather she’s an ojousama from a rich family. Richer than Haruka?

Also, Miya is soooo going to regret how she said that Sae could have her useless Nii-nii if she wanted. Unless Kaoru is able to ambush her in a dark alley, pound her with a dog and then make her disappear before Christmas.
