K-ON!! 20

"THIS HAND OF MINE GLOWS WITH AN AWESOME POWER!!!"

It’s the final countdown for our little bit moe, little bit cake’n’roll K-ONERS. With their bed-head, morning breath, and hand-writing all polished up, the K-ONERS are ready to rock some socks for their last performance. As Yui witnessed the entire audience in HTT-shirts, she could not help but shed a few tears in appreciation, but with the help of her K-GROUPIES and a live-studio audience, she went back to her normal, talkative self.

"BOO!!" - "GET OFF THE STAGE!!" - "YOU STINK!!"

“Did you see the last episode of NON-TALKATIVE Yui? I was Tree G, or I guess you could call me a TRUE G *laughtrack* “, said Yui for 15 minutes instead of actually starting the performance. Red-Glasses-Girl, who is now red in frustration, pleads to the K-ONERS to get on with the show. Not only do they get-on, they GET-DOWN in an exciting (but mostly talkative and silly) performance. Long story short: The K-ONERS hug in each other’s snot and find their lord and savior Jesus. The End.

Impressions:

Would I be lying if I said I didn’t cry at the end? Yes. Would I be lying if I said the performance was absolutely terrible? No… okay fine, “U and I” did make me a bit teary, but that doesn’t excuse “Rice is a Dish” or Yui’s excessive girl-chat.

“Rice is a Dish” is on par with Yui’s version of Fuwa Fuwa Time (aka: it sucks), and our old friend “Conveniently-Place-The-Microphone-In-Front-Of-The-Lip-Sync” pays us a tiny visit. It seems unnecessary when the rest of the performance had good lip-syncing without the conveniently placed microphone. You’re not fooling anyone, you lazy animators! I’m onto your tricks and “Girl-Who-Forgot-To-Take-Off-The-Lens-Cap”! Though it’s true that we hadn’t received a proper performance in the past 19 episodes, you should stop fapping and agree with Jun-chan. She even fist-pumped when Yui collided with Azusa (no, really, it should be around 9:47).

Another disappointment was the half-assed inclusion of Sokabe-senpai. When the K-ONERS mentioned her back in episode 18 (don’t quote me on that…), you would assume her role would be more than a two second Easter-Egg. She even forgot to apply her lower-lip lipstick! KyoAni, you insult my fetish for the LAST TAIMU!

Though some may be a fan of this format, I absolutely hate (in RL) when bands are obviously not prepared for a performance. The K-ONERS are an exact replica of this, saying something along the lines of, “HEY YOU SEE OUR PLAY YESTERDAY?… YEAH IT WAS REALLY COOL-OH! I KNOW, MIO, SAY A FEW LINES FOR US PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!” Was this a flashback in disguise? Did it occur to Yui that not everyone in the audience had seen the Romeo and Juliet performance? Some think it’s totally sugoi with a side of pocky but that’s really annoying in live performances. You want to blow your audience (…okay that was lame, sorry) away, not bore them to death with self-referential captions chit-chat.

Despite an episode that would have been perfect if not for the nitpicks, I would still rank it high on the TEETH-meter. The ending not only rekindled our memories (well, mine at least) of high school, but it also let us cherish the group’s musical victory. This episode is probably more emotional for fans who have been with K-ON through the years.

I admit to not being choked up at the end of the episode. Does that make me an unfeeling old woman? I don’t think so. Does that mean I’ve watched much more touching emotional scenes played out? Definitely.

Any chance you can enlighten us, Onee chan?

(sorry again for the late replies! Semester preparations have been hectic; school hasn’t even started yet!)

@Myssa Rei:

Hmm, not as touching or emotional, ey? I guess you could call it… flat *BA DUM PSH*… (flat in the musical sense… not the chest!) I do agree that there are more touching/emotional episodes out there (this one was pretty sloppy, especially the majority of the concert!), but I still shed a tear or two. Or three… or maybe seven…

Btw, I didn’t know you were female! I’d say The Sea Slug Woman Readership is now up to *drumroll* THREE (unless I’m forgetting someone, haha!)

Another disappointment was the half-assed inclusion of Sokabe-senpai.

OMG she was there!!!! And here I thought she would surprise the gang by going to the music room or something.

I absolutely hate (in RL) when bands are obviously not prepared for a performance.

There should be a level of professionalism when playing for these events, but since they didn’t practice all they could do was have fun. “Insert Girls just want to have fun song!”

I admit that I didn’t get too choke up at the end, but I did feel feel something in my heart, memories that won’t be forgotten. Wow, why did this feel like the last episode.

Wow mugi, that’s a side of you I didn’t expect from you.

Y’know, the more I think about it, Sokabe really wasn’t an important character, was she? I’d rank her right above Red-Glasses-Girl in the Fugly department ;P

“Insert Girls just want to have fun song!”

You know me all too well

Let it all out, Mugi. You speak the truth.

I’ve enjoyed the past few episodes mostly because I get to ogle at all the other classmates especially the lovely Tachibana Himeko. She’s the blonde/brunette girl that usually sites behind Yui and was the second choice to play Romeo. She looked really smug about it, too…

The recent background characters classmate screen time is pretty sweet! I loved the extra Brown Baggers (second caption), but maybe it’s getting overrated. Himeko is still love, though.

lol, really? Hmm, I’ll have to look into this :>

Another disappointment was the half-assed inclusion of Sokabe-senpai.

Couldn’t agree more :( I was really looking forward to see some interaction between her and the girls but instead we got a ‘pause it now or you’ll miss it!’ kind of a situation. She deserves more than that D:

I’ve gotta say though.. I was one of the ones who got pretty sad that it was their last school festival performance. Probably not because of the way the episode portrayed it but more because of that ‘end of an era’ kind of feeling.

The half-assed Sokabe screentime was definitely disappointing, but then I recall her obsession with Mio (aka: she’s only in it for Mio, haha)! I guess it would only make sense to have her as an easter egg. I hear eggs are good for you… yeah!

That ‘end of an era’ feeling is exactly how I’d put it. It’s gonna be quite lonely when they’re gone

Bit a of a weird episode, two thirds were awesome and the rest was truly abysmal. Yui’s by far my least favourite K-oner (Asuza’s not great but at least she’s pretty inoffensive) so listening to her go and on about a myriad of tedious shit bugged the hell out of me. Who cares about the Shakesphere play, and did we really need to hear her thank everyone three times?? I know it’s the last performance but get a sense of perspective, it’s not like the Berlin wall just came down. Agghhhhh!!!!

I’ve just got back from Leeds festival, if a band had tried a tenth of the crap that Yui pulled they’d have been heckled off with bottles of piss. Just like 50 cent did the last (and only) time he played, lol.

I’m probably being ott aggressive at a show aimed at a younger audience but i’ve never watched an anime before where I was deliberately skipping sections of an episode. It was that unbearable to watch.

But yeah, bitching aside the rest of the episode was gold. The scene after the performance was perfect. They say the period just after a gig is the most dangerous for a band as they’re full of emotion/testosterone and go into a ‘comedown’ following the ‘high’ of the gig. That’s why so many artists party hard afterwards and develop substance abuses. Obviously this is K-on land and not reality but the way they all slumped down and became depressed and emotional seemed a good portrayal of that. I love bittersweet moments so it was a highlight of the series and reminded me a lot of the (beginning of the) end of Azumanga Diaoh.

And don’t worry Mugi, i’ll take you’re caterpillar eyebrows and sexy-fat over the rest of those harlets any day

OH NO YOU DIDN’T!!!

listening to her go and on about a myriad of tedious shit bugged the hell out of me.

Ah, that! Yeah, I’d probably throw some tomatoes at her, assuming the tomatoes are free, of course. Fortunately for you, I had to go through all of it; no skipping included!

LOL at the reality gig comparison! I bet there’s a doujin along those lines…

the way its going, its likely that it will continue….
I mean…the last 6-7chapters are about them all taking the same entrance exam to be going to the same college. which would not make sense with this kind of serie. but hey, maybe the mangaka just want to leave the rest to our imagination.
btw azusa should have used that 1000yen she throw in there to buy the last volume of k-on manga x)
and if you haven’t vote for yui or ui yet, please do so

I’ve placed all my votes for Yui! YUI ALL THE WAY!!!
