Summary:
What Kaoru doesn't realize is that that is a video tape of Junichi and Haruka
Keiko and Masayoshi team up to give Junichi and Kaoru the nudge necessary to set up a date, and when Junichi asks Kaoru out he finds that she had already planned for them to have a date. Kaoru is excited to pick out an outfit and surprises herself by assigning her fancy underwear for date night duty. Unfortunately, she then shows up 30 minutes late, resurrecting old fears in Junichi, before taking him to the Port Tower observatory where he spends the evening terrified of heights.
After talking about the good ole days, Kaoru tells Junichi she likes him and wants to be with him forever. Junichi returns the sentiment, and they share a tender kiss. Sly Kaoru then misses the last bus home, and gets invited to Junichi’s house. Miya’s ready for bed, and the parents are at an onsen, so things are looking promising, but Kaoru falls asleep immediately. Junichi hopes to see some sleeping face as a consolation prize, but is surprised with a sleep-kiss from Kaoru (that nearly chokes him out) before she falls back asleep.

Wow, ok now I am really pumped for Rihoko's arc
Um, WTF was that?! That was depressing as hell! I thought this would be a gentle sweet episode, but I also know how to read between the lines. Clearly Junichi realized right then and there that Kaoru is narcoleptic and dumped her on Christmas. You know why there was no flash forward and why that last still shot was of Kaoru the next morning with the words “~fin~” at the bottom? Because that was the ~end~ of their relationship! Obviously Junichi got up, watched the video, fapped like crazy, changed his clothes, gave Kaoru a bike ride home, and then dumped her.
Kaoru supposedly wore her fancy underwear and planned to put it on Junichi, and yet still got shown up by Haruka in her own arc! What a terrible performance… Not only that, but it turns out that Kaoru did not manage to eliminate the planetarium closet in this universe either. The closet practically got more action than she did! His parents are at an onsen! Furthermore the date was chock full of old emo, reminiscing (never good on a first date), heavy “I want to be with you forever” declarations, fear, and frustration. I bet Miya fell asleep with her ear on the wall and hand down her pants, completely disappointed in how the evening turned out.

Oh yes, narcolepsy: the great cockblocker. But then again, maybe she wasn’t asleep. She ‘s probably thinking about everything she could do to a sleeping Junichi.
That’s some impressive pessimism in drawing out that ending from events, hehe. But yeah, it was a fairly disappointing ending to what could have been a great arc. The heavy moments and Junichi’s fear of being stood up again just didn’t really connect, with the exception of the tower confession scene.
Oh well, next up is the Sae arc. Looking forward to that one?

I thought it was an OK ending, if not very dramatic at all. It’s kind of funny: The Haruka ending went a bit too far with the drama, and the Kaoru ending didn’t go far enough. Oh well.
It could be that Kaoru called off operation panty flash when she saw Junichi’s taste in porn. I mean, who faps to Futari H anyway? Though that would support your Miya theory….
I was also a bit disappointed by the end as I was looking forward to a future with Junichi trying to wheedle Kaoru back into her old waitress uniform for a little crab gratin action. And having Kaoru shown up in her own arc by hot Santa Haruka was just wrong! I hope we get some good cameos in future arcs to make up for it, but I’m not sure they’re going to be able to top that random Rihoko moment.
I was expecting a flash into the future like with the Haruka arc, what a disappointment. It would suck if the reason why there was no flashforward to the future was because they didn’t make it as a couple. And Kaoru is such a tease, but wth happen with that kiss at the end. She falls asleep, I wish they switched point of views to see how Kaoru was feeling. I can’t tell if she was serious, or not. I guess she released some stress after the kiss I guess.
The Haruka arc certainly built up my expectations too. But I probably would have hoped for less if Kaoru had remained Messy Hair instead of getting tagged as Sexhair somewhere along the way.
Actually the most shocking thing, for me, was: do they still use VHS tapes? In Japan?? Say it ain’t so! Either that or Junichi and Umehara are in really vintage pr0n.
I was really surprised at how well Keiko and Umehara got along this episode – verily the urge to set up your mutual friends can set aside (in some part) even the burning injustice of being such a douchebag to your confessor over the past three episodes!
Totally baffled me. I felt like there may be a new possible paring next episode.
I’m a bit confused, are you saying Umehara trampled on keiko’s feelings or, saying that even though Keiko had a hard time with her love confession that she still would be willing to help out her friend with her love life? Cause the douchebag in question has brown hair, not black like Umehara.
