Title: Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls
Episodes: 12
Air Date: September 26, 2010
Producers: Arms

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 samgirls

Everything I know about history I learned from shows like this

Summary: The story takes place in Japan in the early 21st century, in an alternate reality where the Tokugawa Shogunate has remained in power. In this reality, student councils are tasked with oppressing schools. Yagyuu Muneakira is a high school student who rebels against his student council with the help of girls who’ve had the names of famous samurai heroes passed on to them.

  • Hellomotto: Eh, not the biggest fan of samurai girls. To be honest, anything that has samurai girls is, well, a turnoff. Hell, when I think of battling females, the first thing that comes to mind is Queen Blade, even though there have been countless of great female warriors (Balsa from Moribito comes to mind). Dunno why though; I just guess it isn’t my fetish or something…
  • Kabitzin: OMG, this has guilty pleasure written all over it!  I like the character art a lot, even though the plot is another bastardized history lesson.  Then again, if history had been like this…  The trailer was completely absurd, or course, with exploding outfits and naked girls falling out of the sky like meteors, but the animation looked nice and I’ll watch almost anything with good battle choreography.  The ink blot censorship was also very funny, like Street Fighter IV gone ecchi.
  • Zyl: One male lead (Muneakira), a whole host of beauties and an albino student council president (Tokugawa Yoshihiko) who is presumably the bad guy; the combination of the first two parts sounds like there’s rich harem potential. The website is already pimping its figures, dakimakura covers, oppai mousepads and light novels – as such, I’m not expecting much from the story but hopefully, being an advertisement for the franchise, the production values will be solid and the voice cast (no information at this time) will be respectable. I also can’t help but think that this series would have been awesome if instead of Hyakka Ryouran (百花繚乱), it was Yuri Ryouran (百合繚乱) – Japanese samurai history needs to be mangled Ikkitousen-style!
  • Halfadeckshort: I opened up the link, saw Hobby Japan in the bottom corner, and was sold… not that the promo art and trailer don’t totally win for best use of rope in recent memory. Hopefully this “tie-in” gets the same caliber of voice talent that helped make Queen’s Blade so much fun.
  • Epi: I may just be an idiot, but I can’t find the trailer anywhere. Anyway judging from the story (STUDENT COUNCIL IS INVOLVED) and the flashy character designs, I’m sure I’ll watch this one.
  • Jesus159159159: Watch out Steam! There’s a new censorship in town and his name is INK! The trailer was off the chain despite the Street Fighter IV similarities. I love the slightly thicker lines in the trailer, but the thin lines used in the promotional art above make me a bit worried. Fan service with action is alright with me, just don’t add any moe!

Title: Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto
Episodes: 25
Air Date: October 10, 2010
Producers: Bones

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 stardriver

Whip, mask, crotchless robo-chaps, star pasties... wait, this isn't the MM! image?

Summary: To the south of Japan, there lies a lush green island called Southern Cross Isle. One night, a boy by the name of Takuto Tsunashi washes up on the shore of the island alone. Having swum from the mainland alone and without any possessions, this boy enrolls in the senior high level in the school on the island – Southern Cross High School.  With his bright and positive personality, he starts to mix with various students in the school and builds relationships with many of them, including Wako Agemaki and Sugata Shindou. But this school hides a deep secret. There are sleeping giants hidden under the ground called “Cybuddies”.

There are about 20 of these giants, and they are just some of the various secrets kept by everyone on the island: The secret movements of the mysterious organization known as “Kirahoshi Juujidan”. The songs of the shrine maidens. And even Takuto himself will soon come to embrace a great secret… This island in the southern territories surrounded by the blue sea and the blue skies is the stage where the “Eulogy of Youth” filled with love, dreams and friendships, will begin.

  • Hellomotto: Well, well, this series seems quite the mix of mecha and cheesy teenage bonding–both of which I’m not a huge fan, might I add. Still, this could be a good watch; probably not the best blogging material from where I stand, however.
  • Kabitzin: So this is why Michael Phelps trains so hard… Bones has a good reputation and goodness it’s been a long time since I watched a show with mecha. “Cybuddies” sounds like someone you cyber with all the time.
  • Zyl: The masks and combat costumes seem to be based on a Harlequin theme; the only possible hook for me here is that Maaya Sakamoto voices Endou Sarina, president of the intriguingly named drama club, The Night Flyers.
  • Halfadeckshort: Though it looks like at least one of the designs is inspired by Sorcerer Hunters, the name “Cybuddies” sounds like it would be more appropriate for an animatronic toy line (i.e. Teddy Ruxpin‘s friends). It’s Bones though, so I’ll check it out to see if the first episode holds my attention.
  • Epi: BONES? Only mecha show of the season? All-star cast (Maaaaaaaya)? The director Takuya Igarashi who was also the production manager for TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE?!?!??! Must watch, even though it has weirdo mecha designs (sigh where’s the more traditional roboty designs that I love these days?). I just hope it isn’t only mildly good but for some reason 52 episodes.
  • Jesus159159159: Do you C what I C? ♫ A SONG, A SOOOONG!! HIGH ABOVE THE TREE!!! ♫ … It’s our friend The Creative Commons License!… That’s really all I have to say.

Title: MM!
Episodes: 12
Air Date: September 26, 2010
Producers: XEBEC

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 mm

Why even bother wrapping the fan's handle? Just make extras!

Summary: Sado Tarou suffers from sexual masochism; he experiences sexual pleasure from pain. He feels he won’t ever have a normal relationship with his condition and decides to visit the Voluntary Club, a place that grants students’ wishes, for a cure. At the club, he finds Isurugi Mio, a girl who thinks she is a god, and Yuuno Arashiko, the girl who caused his condition in the first place…

  • Hellomotto: Hot damn, a series about sexual fetishes? Well, if it’s something similar to the first episode of B Gata H Kei, I guess it shouldn’t be too bad. On a somewhat-relevant topic: although the blogger from 2D-Teleidoscope mentioned a similar series in his most recent post, the aforementioned series seems to be much different; more specifically, the series he recommended seemed to actually explore the “sexuality studies,” as well as the characters, moreso than this series would. Alas, I guess I’ll try it out.
  • Zyl: It’s a supreme irony that someone with a name like Sado is a maso but the school context, mixed with the premise, makes me uncomfortable. If it had been about working age adults (like Aria’s parents from Seitokai Yakuindomo), it might be more appealing to me. I also getting bad Zero no Tsukaima Louise vibes from the screencap and the website homepage.
  • Halfadeckshort: I’d check this out if the promo art didn’t feature a generic tsundere type and a bunch of chibis, but as it is I can’t take it seriously. This one is a pass for now.
  • Epi: I agree with Zyl. If this were some weird underground club for adults (Speed Grapher I’m looking at you) it may have been more interesting… but a high school sexual fantasy club? Also, stupid Media Factory decided to put the trailer on YouTube and ban it from my country. Pfft.
  • Jesus159159159: I searched MM! on youtube and got this. Asians? In my anime?!? PASS!!

Title: Yosuga no Sora
Episodes:
Air Date: October 4, 2010
Producers: feel.

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 yosuga

Can't believe that lazy maid is making the miko sweep

Summary: The story is set in the distant mountain village of Okukozome-chou. Haruka Kazugano and his twin sister Sora have fond childhood memories of going to the village to visit their grandfather during their summer vacations. However, after losing their parents in an accident, the two must move in with their grandfather.

The twins get reacquainted with their old childhood friend Nao Yorihime, their new classmate Ryouhei Nakazato, the shrine maiden Akira Amatsume, and Akira’s friend Kazuha Migawa. All seems peaceful and familiar. However, beneath the surface is a secret promise that the twins made with each other long ago, the whereabouts of an important lost item, and the real reason they chose to come back here.

  • Hellomotto: A tragedy-twined anime focusing on twins? Eh, I could go for better. The artwork also doesn’t seem that impressive; so are the character designs. Even so, it’s piqued my interest, and I’ll keep it on the radar; I’ll watch it if people say it’s good.
  • Zyl: I like the feel of the character designs and artwork but I suspect that my enjoyment of this series will depend a lot on the development of the hidden aspects of the premise, or lack thereof.
  • Kabitzin: It’s hard to get a handle on if this will be a nice story that takes advantage of the source’s excellent art or if this will be a crappy conversion that focuses on twincest and generic harem antics.
  • Epi: That one picture features some very clean character designs. This show could go either way… either have a nice heartwarming story, have a crazy horror bent (crazy secret) or just be plain crappy.
  • Jesus159159159: Eroges turned anime have always been a pet peeve of mine, but the trailer seemed pretty cool in that “I’m drinking cold lemonade on a hot summer day” sort of way. I could ignore the minor (and D major! *BA DUM PSH*) boob bouncing and standard violin. Plus, I loved the pocky-snatching and hair-sniffin’. Snuff is TOTALLY in this season!

Title: Togainu no Chi
Episodes:
Air Date: October 7, 2010
Producers: A-1 Pictures

Fall 2010 Preview togainu

It's not gay if you spell it with an @

Summary: After being devastated in the third World War (known as The Third Division), Japan was divided in two. Several years after the end of the war, a crime organization called Vischio has taken control of the destroyed city of Toshima (formerly Tokyo, Japan’s capital city), where they are holding a battle game known as “Igura”. The main character is a young man named Akira, the champion of a street fighting tournament called Bl@ster,  who is falsely accused of a crime. Once arrested, a mysterious woman appears before him, offering him freedom if he agrees to participate in Igura and defeat Igura’s strongest man: the king, or “Il-re”. The story follows Akira’s life in the harsh, lawless Toshima as he fights both to survive and to unravel the mysteries developing around him.

  • Hellomotto: From what I’ve heard, it’s a game adaptation; and knowing that, I expect nothing but action… which means, of course, good animation. Any angst, unless played out VERY well, would likely kill any potential this series has. Thus, my wishes can be summed up into three words: excellent animation, please! EDIT: After seeing this image, I’m actually getting a bit interested… I still have no idea how that picture relates to the series though.
  • Kabitzin: Contrary to what young naive Hellomotto thinks, this is not a typical action show, unless you only watch action shows with lots of BL!  No doubt the “mysterious woman” was a fujoshi and “defeat” is code for “play tummy sticks with.”  I giggle at the thought of unsuspecting dudes watching this for the cool art and finding out what kind of game this anime is adapted from.  This is why you must do at least a little half-hearted researching!
  • Epi: I was thinking this would be cool until I read Kabitzin’s blurb. Maybe I’ll watch an episode and not tell anyone just to see how it is… oh wait.

Title: Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows)
Episodes:
Air Date: October 6, 2010
Producers: Manglobe

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 godknows

I now know that one of those keyholes corresponds to the back of the knee

Summary: Keima Katsuragi, a second-year high school student, is an avid dating sim gamer. He is known on the Internet as “The Capturing God” for his legendary skills to be able to “capture” any 2D girl in games. However, in his actual school life, Keima is known as otamegane, a derogatory portmanteau of the two words otaku (オタク) and megane (メガネ-”glasses”).

At the start of the series, Keima receives an e-mail offering him a contract to “capture” girls. He accepts what is thought to be a challenge, and a demon from Hell nicknamed Elsee appears. She asks for his cooperation to help her in catching the runaway spirits. These spirits hide themselves inside the girl’s heart, and Elsee suggests that the only method to force the spirits out is by “capturing” their hearts—making them fall in love. Appalled by the idea, Keima refuses after clarifying to Elsee that he is only interested in “capturing” 2D girls and that he detests reality. Nevertheless, with the contract already accepted, Keima would have to help Elsee no matter what; if they fail, both Elsee and Keima would lose their heads.

  • Hellomotto: Oh please. I read the first chapter and perpetually facepalmed. Their attempts at “comedy” just fell flat on its face every time. And that’s not the worst of it: the series implies that “capturing” 2D girls has similar elements to start and maintain an actual relationship. Translated: Skip. (Sorry for the rant; I…just couldn’t help myself.)
  • Zyl: This sounds like otaku wish-fulfillment and this has the potential to go very badly wrong if the otaku in question is not an endearing character. One of the greatest challenges for me to be able to tolerate this is whether he will be able to be decent to the girls whose hearts he captures.  However I am really curious to see what anibloggers who have a lot of experience with both dating sims and dating RL girls think of this series.
  • Halfadeckshort: Watching Sekirei has got my interest piqued in this whole Pokemon business that I apparently missed out on. Plus it’s got Kanae Itou. Will check it out to see if bishoujo gaming really is the path to salvation.
  • Kabitzin: While it sounds like it’d be fun to flip through the various best strategies for bagging the most popular female archetypes, this sounds a little too chick-of-the-week for me. Plus, I need a break from blogging so many romance series!
  • Epi: Jason‘s been pimping this show forever and unlike HoTD he never stopped liking it. Just for that I’ll give it a try and see how it goes. Plus it’s got Shigehito Takayanagi directing, and he directed 4 seasons of Galaxy Angel, so it can’t be all that bad right? Deshou?!
  • Jesus159159159: In true Hellomotto fashion, I’ll also be a tad bit blatant: Those character designs SUCK. Do people seriously fap to this? It would make sense to put those heads on a Gerber Baby! Other than that, I can’t ignore the legion of manga-fans out there so I’ll give it the 3-Ep test.

Title: Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (Yet the Town Keeps Going)
Episodes:
Air Date: October 7, 2010
Producers: SHAFT

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 soredemo

Another lazy maid floating around, while the poor demon above is forced to sweep

Summary: Clumsy Arashiyama is a girl with a love for mysteries and a knack for getting into trouble. She works for an old lady’s lackluster maid café in a small shopping district. The cafe is largely unsuccessful in attracting customers aside from Sanada, a regular and one of Arashiyama’s classmates (who has a secret crush on her). One day Arashiyama’s clever friend Tatsuno is invited to the café, and, upon seeing the miserable state of things (and Sanada, whom she has a secret crush on), decides to work there. Don’t miss the crazy antics of Arashiyama and friends, mismatched love stories, and all the hilarity that is created as a result, in Sore Machi.

  • Hellomotto: According to one of the charts, the series contains “slice-of-life adventures.” Did someone just call my name? Granted, the series falters with the mention of a secret crush and mismatched love stories; but I do see some potential here. (And to think that I detested any anime with maid cafés!)
  • Kabitzin: Although SHAFT can be a bit much sometimes, the preview was encouraging. It didn’t look nearly as SHAFT-esque and the show looks well-animated and funny.
  • Epi: I think I’m done with SHAFT shows… too much for me.

Title: Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute)
Episodes: 12
Air Date: October 3, 2010
Producers: AIC

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 lilsis

Unfortunately for you, she's on the phone with Chris Hansen

Summary: Kyousuke Kousaka, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student, hasn’t gotten along with his younger sister, Kirino, in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyousuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever.

One day, however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime entitled Hoshikuzu Witch Merle (Stardust Witch Merle), which had fallen into the entranceway of his house. To Kyousuke’s surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled Imouto to Koishiyo! (Love with Little Sister!). Kyousuke attempts to fish out the culprit who dropped the case by bringing up the topic of magical girl anime at the family dinner table. All that comes out is a strong negative reaction from his parents, especially his anti-otaku policeman father.

That night, Kirino bursts into Kyousuke’s room and, in perhaps the first conversation she has initiated with him in years, says they “have things to talk about.” Kirino brings Kyousuke to her room and shows him an extensive collection of moe anime and lolicon bishoujo games she has been collecting in secret.

  • Hellomotto: Awww, such a good bonding opportunity between two siblings! Just kidding; this doesn’t fit my taste at all. Next, please!
  • Zyl: I have been looking forward to this ever since I read the first chapter (h/t Washi). Also keen to see if this role will continue to propel Taketatsu Ayana‘s meteoric career (Azunyan of K-ON!) to even greater heights.
  • Kabitzin: Hopefully this can be funny instead of just pandering to people want to see some incest (and probably don’t have an annoying little sister of their own). I like the character designs, and the anime art looks better than the manga art.
  • Epi: She kind of looks like Yamada. Anyway, this could be good or bad, but I dunno how a Nogizaka Haruka clone except it’s the dude’s sister could be any good considering how crappy that show turned out.

Title: Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Air Date: October 1, 2010
Producers: Gainax

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 garter

It's not as funny when you realize this is a show about Ghostbusters being outsourced

Summary: The Upper Region sends two angels “Panty” and “Stocking” to Earth.  Panty, a blond woman in teen-celebrity-style clothes, and Stocking, a black haired woman in gothic lolita fashion, fight against peculiar ghosts on Earth.

  • Hellomotto: At first, I thought this was another excuse for ecchi and moe. Then I looked at the picture, which reminded me a bit of Kaiba, except more…distorted, I guess? Either way, it captivated me. I’m still not sure what to expect out of the series, but it’s worth a shot.
  • Zyl: Evirus is interested in this. Might be worth a peek.
  • Epi: Thought this was Powerpuff Girls
  • Jesus159159159: Thought the green dog in the middle was Gir… Y’know, searching for the trailer on youtube was probably a bad idea… (if you hate 3D-Girls, that is)

Title: Shinryaku! Ika Musume (The Invader Comes From the Bottom of the Sea!)
Episodes:
Air Date: October 4, 2010
Producers: Diomedea

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 squid

Oh Ika Musume, won't you join us for lunch?

Summary: The sea in our world has been polluted. All sorts of trash were thrown into the sea, making it unpleasant deep under the sea. One of the inhabitants of the sea, Ika Musume (Squid Girl) seeks to exact revenge on humanity for throwing trash into the sea. Clueless about the surface, she seeks to invade humanity alone, trying to rule over the world, only to find herself slaving away at one of the nearest beach-houses for breaking a side of its wall.

  • Hellomotto: Well, I guess that they’re trying to imbue an environmental message through anime–an admirable attempt, no doubt. But I just can’t see myself watching this show. Nope.
  • Kabitzin: Fufufu, humanity wins again. The trailer was a little too cutesy and heartwarming for my tastes.
  • Zyl: The Nomura jellyfish are already striking back though they should be targeting China rather than Japan. I suppose that’s one of those problems that arise when you go with the flow.
  • Jesus159159159: I love Squid Girl(see? It’s better to put a label on girls, like Red-Glasses-Girl, Sex-Hair Girl, Brown-Bagger Girl, etc.)’s hair. If Nama-ko had a Squid buddy, I’d bet she’d look just like that. She better play the clarinet or I’m dropping this!

Episodes:
Air Date: October 8, 2010
Producers: ZEXCS, feel.

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 fortune

Don't be fooled! Do not invite them in!!!

Summary: Fortune Arterial’s story revolves around the male protagonist Kohei Hasekura, who transfers into a prestigious public school in the style of an English six-year school encompassing junior-high and high school students. The school is on an island named Tamatsu Island off-shore from mainland Japan, and the only way to get there is by boat. Soon after transferring, he discovers that one of the student in the class next door to his, Sendo Erika, is in fact a type of vampire.

  • Hellomotto: If I may: what the hell?! I really don’t see the point of this series. True, not all series need a “purpose,” if you will; but I have a horrible feeling that this will play out atrociously. I mean, c’mon: vampires? Can one possibly beat a dead horse even more? I can see why some people would want to see this; but not me. Nope, not me.
  • Zyl: I haven’t watched an adult visual novel/game conversion in a while. May pick this up if it gets Stripey‘s tanuki paw print of approval.

Episodes:
Air Date: October 4, 2010

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 zakuro

Clearly these maids do not understand sweeping either

Summary: It’s the Meiji Era in a slightly alternate Japan, and the Gregorian calendar has just come into effect. The fox-eared girls living in the youkai part of town are about to be put to work together with a delegation of young human soldiers, to promote interracial understanding. So what will happen when Zakuro’s strong personality collides with human sensibilities?

  • Kabitzin: In spite of how poor the Yozakura Quartet conversion was, I kinda like shows about yokai and humans living together, especially when the yokai are treated like illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, the trailer for this looked really boring and genteel.
  • Zyl: I was initially excited by Nakahara Mai voicing the title character but am having reservations given how I haven’t seen that many of series directed by Chiaki Kon. With respect to those I have seen, I thought Nodame Paris was iffy (though it might have more to do with the source material) and while I do acknowledge Higurashi as a classic but I was completely put off the franchise and did not pick up the sequels. Mari Okada, seems to have a more impressive CV, having done series composition for ToraDora (and though I’ve not watched them, I have also heard good things said about the series composition of True Tears and Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo!). I’m not sure CANAAN is a plus story-wise but it did provide much unintended yuri-infused hilarity. Will wait and see.
  • Epi: The trailer makes it look like this is a late 1990s show.
  • Jesus159159159: I’ll try my best to ignore the Digimon character and concentrate solely on the hot dame with the luscious lips. YEAH, SEE?!?! Though, like Kabitzin, I did find the trailer boring. When ya can’t decide, ya give it da 3-Ep Test, SEE?! Yeah, SEE?!

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 kura

Summary: The story centers around Tsukimi Kurashita, a huge fan of jellyfish (kurage, a wordplay on the “kura/mi” and “tsuki/ge” in her name) and a girl who moves to Tokyo to become an illustrator. She moves into “Amamizukan,” an apartment complex that is full of fujoshi (diehard female otaku) with a no-men-allowed rule. However, one day, Tsukimi invites a stylishly fashionable woman to stay at her room at Amamizukan — only to discover that the guest is not who “she” seems to be.

  • Hellomotto: Woah there, trap ahoy! Anyways, it has an interesting concept, but I’m not sure how it’ll play out. Still, seeing as though this is a josei (or so I’m told), this might be one of my niche animes. I’ll definitely be checking this one out.

Episodes: 25

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 bakuman

So THIS is why everyone else can draw so much faster than I can

Summary: Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi are pretty much foils of each other. Mashiro, an average 9th grade student but talented artist, and Takagi, an overall advanced 9th grader and aspiring writer. After great convincing, Takagi convinces Mashiro to join him in becoming the greatest mangakas Japan has ever seen. Takagi, with his gift of writing, hopes to become a successful mangaka, and Mashiro, with his gift of art, hopes to marry the girl of his dreams, Azuki Miho.

  • Hellomotto: Well, everybody who follows the manga knows that this is a sure hit. That being said, I’ve been reading the manga, but it hasn’t quite captivated me the way others have. Still, I’ll check this out to see if my experience improves. (Of course, I won’t be blogging it because, well, we already know J159′s gonna do unspeakable things to me and my dead body if I do.)
  • Epi: Written by the guy who wrote Death Note. Directed by the guy who directed Honey and Clover and Nodame Cantabile. And under the aegis of the AYAKO DOCTRINE. I believe this is a must watch.
  • Jesus159159159: Being an avid reader of the manga, I can say I’m both excited and scared of this adaptation. In this limited brain of mine, there are three paths an anime adaptation can take: 1. Surpass the manga, 2. Take no risks / become an exact copy of the manga, or 3. F*ck it up. I’m going with the 2nd, which is not a bad thing at all, but I recall Death Note as a Category 2 anime which I slightly preferred to the manga. To put it bluntly, the anime version is basically the manga with color and tiny segments of animation. I can’t say this is a bad thing either, especially when Death Note’s story is impossible to alter without destroying the original creator’s intention. Will Bakuman also take this path? Will it be fluid enough (like the manga) to keep me interested? Will it focus mainly on the romance of the characters since that would be a safe bet in the anime industry? I don’t know, but OH BABY OH BABY I’m about to find out! This show is under my belt!! (btw, the anime art is sorta… well, uninspiring)

Title: Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (Psychic Detective Yakumo)
Episodes: 13
Air Date: October 3, 2010
Producers: Bee Train

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 yakumo

Save your breath; I already know Bruce Willis' character is dead

Summary: Shinrei Tantei Yakumo tells a story about a college student, Saitou Yakumo who is born with different eye colors. His red left eye gives him a special ability to see ghosts and spirits. He believes ghosts and spirits are bound to earth because of a certain “cause,” and simply eliminating that “cause” will let those spirits rest in peace. Being asked for help by Ozawa Haruka, they begin the investigation together.

  • Hellomotto: YES. OH GOD YES. YES. Oh wait…this isn’t Natsume Yuujinchou, is it? Still, it’s definitely the top contender for me in terms of previews; I’ll definitely be watching this series. Seeing as though I’ll have limited time in the future (college apps, folks!), I’ll leave this show to a more worthy blogger who will do the series justice.
  • Kabitzin: Bee Train with no girls + guns?  I am curious.  Hopefully the production values will be decent.

Yes, yes, the guy with the red eye already came by; yes, I already know about Bruce Willis' character

Summary: The anime adaptation of the PSP game, the story takes place in an imaginary world in “the Age of Detectives”, where private detectives and phantom thieves overwhelm the cities. It’s about four girls who aim to be great detectives.

Episodes:
Air Date: October 3, 2010
Producers: SHAFT

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 arakawa

I still don't see how this is going to help me do a German Suplex

Summary: This is the sequel to Arakawa Under the Bridge.

  • Hellomotto: I would want to watch it, but I’ve got a lot of anime to catch up on–including the first season of Arakawa. And that’s all I have to say ’bout that…
  • Zyl: My experience with the first season was very uneven – I liked some of the weird characters and their interactions but disliked others intensely. I was also disappointed by the lack of substantial Recruit x Nino progress. As such, I’ll probably follow this via aniblogs and then pick up only those episodes that focus on Maria (Sawashiro Miyuki), Stella (Saitou Chiwa) and The Amazoness (Kobayashi Yuu).
  • Halfadeckshort: I enjoyed the first season (I’ll write up the last episode… soon) and I hope that season two will actually deliver on the potential of the first. And more Maria is never a bad thing. If I do blog this one I may have to change my format a bit (no ads though, promise).

Summary: This series is the sequel of Toaru Majutsu no Index.

  • Hellomotto: I know for certain that Raph over at Borderline Hikikomori is going to go crazy over this. I haven’t seen the first series, however, so this is a no-go for me. Given its popularity, maybe I should put the first season on my to-watch list…
  • Zyl: I hated Touma’s speechifying and was disappointed by Kaori’s angst overdrive but I’m coming back for the spark of Biri Biri as well as Kuroko’s antics and That Voice.
  • Halfadeckshort: I enjoyed the first season (and am working my way through Railgun), but I think it worked better when marathoned. Will watch the first few episodes to see if I want to stick with it weekly.

Summary: The story centers around two sisters, Koshino Hikari and Hikaru, who take care of the paddy they inherited from their parents. Together the sisters grow rice and hang out with their friends in the local area.

  • Hellomotto: Well, the character designs (or lack thereof) don’t really reflect upon the seriousness in anime that I usually like…BUT THEY’RE SO DAMN CUTE. It seems like it’ll be rather childish, and again, since I don’t have much time on my hands, I’ll skip this one for now and put it on the back burner.

Title: Deadman Wonderland
Episodes:
Air Date: April 2011 (Left in this preview since it was rumored for Fall 2010)
Producers: Manglobe

Fall 2010 Preview 2010 10 wonderland

Please stop feeding him candy

Summary: Ganta Igarashi has been convicted of a crime that he hasn’t committed, and sent to a new, privately owned and operated prison, where the inmates are the main attraction in a modern day twist to the gladiatorial coliseums of ancient times. Throw in a healthy dose of weird little girl, some new-found super powers, and a little conspiracy theory, and you have Deadman Wonderland.

  • Hellomotto: I saw the picture and immediately thought of Eureka Seven. However, I’m sure that it will not be the same, as the plot is completely different. Even still, the concept is interesting: dark and twisted with a touch of magic. I don’t know enough about it, but I’ll check it out.
  • Kabitzin: I have read a lot of this manga, and I’m not a fan.  It was interesting at first, feeling like a shounen Highschool of the Dead with less boobage and more distorted faces.  Unfortunately, it starts to drag like your typical shounen series and the fights are really uninspired.  Basically the good guy will have a flashback or epiphany and then power up for a one-shot victory.  Plus, Ganta is generally a little bitch and Shiro annoys the hell out of me.  I guess the series is very anticipated since the creator also did Eureka Seven (which I never finished), but I wasn’t impressed.

  • Zyl: After much agonizing, I have decided not to get Star Craft II: The Wings of Liberty until the expansion set is released.

Looking forward to Bakuman the most since i’ve read the manga since it first began serialization. Definitely a must-see for me.

I loved the first season of Index, so of COURSe i gotta get in on it. And i watched Railgun.

I need to finish Sora no Otoshimono seas. 1, but i’ve read the manga fully, and i’m only looking forward to the baka angeloid.

Aaaaand… last but not least, the world god only knows; I like this manga: guy who hates 3D and has to ward off demons by making girls fall in love, and like, he’s being a pimp. I have to get on this.

That’s all i got.

Interesting that some who read the Bakuman manga would look forward to the anime. It doesn’t sound like the type of series that would lend itself to an anime if you already knew all the twists. Plus, aren’t they just drawing? Maybe it is more exciting than it sounds.

Think seinen slice-of-life series shounenized, with an underlying manga artist theme; that’s basically what it is. Unique in the sense that it takes the unrealistic and outrageous character archetypes from your typical shounen series and puts them into a (relatively) normal setting; forgoing all that typical fantasy/battle/harem stuff.

Fairly well written; nothing groundbreaking, but unusual for its target demographic. A breath of fresh if you’re a shounen fan, I guess…

TJ August 20, 2010 at 1:43 am

I am “obligated” to cover Deadman Wonderland, To-Love-Ru, and Index (not to mention the Queen’s Blade OVAs). Doesn’t really leave much room for the other series even though some of them look interesting.

Deadman Wonderland’s artist also illustrated the Eureka Seven manga, so that’s why the art is similar.

Hopefully the mecha will be more mecha-like, since in Xam’d you never really felt like you were watching mecha. I dunno if it was the small size of the Xam’d and other units, or the fact that piloting was pretty much just like normal moving.

So only half of the sequels only had troll lulz comments, and I would hardly call the first two “major” shows. On MAL, Hakuouki, Letter Bee, and To Love Ru are ranked 427, 451, and 152 respectively in terms of popularity. And BTW, Sora no Otoshimo is scored higher than Hakuouki and To Love-ru, with Letter Bee only 0.05 ahead according to the MAL survey.

See Kabitzin!? I told you putting Hellomotto on top was a bad idea! ;P (…)

Negativity isn’t necessarily a bad thing (or trollish). We lower our standards now so we can enjoy the anime later! ;P

Not to blow our horn, but I think the Slugs did a pretty good job of expressing themselves. It’s clear that we all have our preferences, so not all shows will receive the same proper treatment we give K-ON! K-ON!! season two.

We know there are people out there who detest season-previews, but I think they are essential to an episodic blogger, especially team blogs with lots of members. This is our way of telling our fans/readers/commenters what we are looking forward to. You don’t have to agree. In fact, you are free to disagree on our opinions. You can even prove us wrong if you want to; it happened many times before (thx for the recommendations, Mentar :P )

There is nothing wrong with speculation. You can’t tell me you’ve never had a prediction or judgment of something before you’ve tested it out. I bet you unconsciously speculate about things like food (“Oh this has a strawberry on it! I think I’ll eat it-*BLEAAHHGGH* THIS TASTES AWFUL!!”), upcoming blockbuster movies (“Eww the special effects in the trailer SUCK! Let’s not watch it!”), tv shows (“EWW I’M NEVER WATCHING MY LITTLE PONY!!!”), etc. It’s just part of being human… but now that I’ve looked over your comment a second time, it appears you’ve also made some speculation:

and u’ll watch crap like sora no otoshimo season 2?

OH HO HO?!?! WHO’S THE NEGATIVE NANCY NOW?!?! YOU’VE NEVER SEEN OTOSHIMO SEASON TWO!! AND EVEN IF YOU’VE SEEN SEASON ONE, YOU CAN’T BE CERTAIN THAT SEASON TWO WILL SUCK!! HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?!?! WHERE’S THE TIME MACHINE?!?! TAKE ME BACK TO 1924!!

Be warned; this might be a fairly long comment.

so basically… u guys haven’t seen ANY of the major showz that’s coming out? and all u guys have is negative, LOLz troll comments?

If I may: is there a problem with not watching “major” shows? Moreover, I’m not sure what you mean by “major.” Are you simply referring to the quantity of the shows of the fall season, or are you referring to specific shows themselves? Going further, do you refer to the potential popularity of the series or the series’ potential as a great anime (or both)? Clarification would be greatly appreciated.

As for the “negative LOLz troll comments,” I do apologize for being rather pessimistic and harsh in my preview comments; perhaps I should tone down a bit. However, if you are referring to our opinions expressed through our comments, then I see no reason why we should apologize. Each person is entitled to his or her own opinions, especially since it’s about anime. Any sort of difference in opinion is not bad and may even serve as a beneficial force.

Why the hell did u even bother with a preview if all you were gonna do is Trash every show there was or say: “I never saw the first season so I’m not gonna watch this” stuff?

As Kabitzin pointed out in his above comment, there are certain series that we have watched and certain series we have not. True, there were the “LOLz troll” comments that may have gotten annoying. Still, I think it’s a bit selfish of you to have said that. As a blog, we have followers, and some followers may have watched the first season of shows we ourselves have not. In addition, in series that we criticize, readers may disagree and watch the series anyways. Again, we don’t mind dissonance; in fact, we welcome it. Essentially, as an anime blog, we consider every reader and want to let them know about upcoming series as well as insert our own opinions to initiate discussion and, in certain cases, guide the reader.

and u’ll watch crap like sora no otoshimo season 2? all u guys do is harp on and make fun of every friggin show… get a life!

I’m sure that Epi, as well as many other fans of the series, (although I’m not sure if Epi’s a huge fan) will argue for the contrary side. However, for the purpose of this discussion, whether or not sora no otoshimo and its sequel are great or crappy is irrelevant and [potentially] moot.

As for making “fun of every friggin show”, I don’t see why we shouldn’t criticize a series for the faults we find in a show. Granted, we have our wits and our sharp tongues to express said criticism, but it’s all in good humor.

By the way, if your comment was meant to troll, then congratulations: you’ve done your job.

Thanks for the comment!

fathomlessblue August 20, 2010 at 12:32 pm

I think it’s harsh to call the initial opinions trolling when for many of the shows there seems little to be positive about. Theres so much poor quality anime these days, e.g. moe-sh*t involing loli’s, maids, traps, cat ears etc, that it’s hard not to be pessimistic when you’ve seen the same tired premise over and over, especially when it’s likely some anime five years back did it much better. For every good moe series, mecha show etc, theres 5-6 terrible ones waiting in the wings.

Besides, Like J159 said, it’s not as if the writers are too stubborn to swallow their pride and admit series’ initially shrugged off often actually turn out to be pretty decent. I mean check out the lacklustre first opinions of Working!! and B Gata H Kei from the previous (winter 2009) season, to how well regarded they had become at the end of their run. Chill dude :)

Kabitzin August 21, 2010 at 1:44 am

RP August 29, 2010 at 10:58 am

Luckily there are those surprises. Every season preview I think “there’s nothing good at all this season” and I lose all hope. But then the shows get to airing and lo and behold there’s always a few that are way better than you expect. Of course, on the flip side, there’s always one or two disappointments as well. But the balance seems to work out for the better.

Epi August 23, 2010 at 11:48 pm

Gotta love this obvious troll comment. On one hand you say we’re negative about all these sequels, and then on one show where there’s a positive comment on you say we’re wrong about that because that show sucks? LOL? Seriously?

You can’t select from all of the shows you discussed in the poll.

Anyway, Otome Youkai Zakuro had potential theme-wise…but apparently they’re gonna be busy exploring the shoujo path…so I yield.
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru might be win (at least that’s what the attitude of the angel in the pic seems to suggest)…I think I’m gonna give this a try (not present in the poll)
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt seems like some fresh air…so it’s worth checking out.
I’ve never taken a glance at Bakuman before, but considering the options I suppose this season would be a good time to give it some attention.
Shinrei Tantei Yakumo seems not too shitty contentwise (going by the description) but the character design makes me fear you won’t end up feeling the slightest connection with the main character and he’ll just come off as an arrogant ass.

I’ve had enough of To Aru Majutsu etc. to last a lifetime. Same goes for Arakawa under the bridge (still have episodes to catch up with) though I might check it out eventually.

I watched some eps of Tegami Bachi some time ago. It had a good atmosphere thing going and a handful of interesting characters…I liked it when the show deviated from its main storyline (that’s a first) but yeh…I suppose the second installment will just advance the plot some more and here that’s a very unwelcome move.

Nougyou Musume could’ve been COMPLETE WIN if they picked ‘regular’ character designs and didn’t go for the ‘cute’ approuch. Sadly enough that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

In my humble opinion the rest qualifies as romance, moe and ecchi junk. To this day the most lauded and appreciated way for diverting attention from an unexistant plot and lousy character ties.

Oh and I love the reviews of Mr. 159 but I honestly wouldn’t come into a hundred foot radius of the shows that garner his favor, lol.
I laud Hellomotto for picking the least amount of stinkers (God I wish I had something like a new Natsume Yuujinchou to look forward to).

Agreed; the potential’s there, and it all depends on how the comedy turns out. Hopefully, the romance won’t be too annoying. XD

I also share your views on Panty & Garterbelt and Bakuman. I’m being a bit more optimistic about Shinrei Tantei Yakumo though; I really do see some raw potential there. Plus, I’m sure the main character won’t be THAT big of an ass…hopefully. XD

Nougyou Musume could’ve been COMPLETE WIN if they picked ‘regular’ character designs and didn’t go for the ‘cute’ approuch. Sadly enough that doesn’t seem to be the case here.

That’s a tough one to predict. Right now, Nougyou Musume has the child-like innocence and discovery feel to it, almost like Hanamaru Kindergarten (which, by the way, was a decent series). However, the change in character designs to something more grown-up and mature would totally change the mood. Essentially, having those normal character designs whilst keeping the childish feel could completely mess it up. However, if the mood could be something more ARIA-like (you get the general gist of what I mean), then I would agree in that it could turn out awesome. (Which is what you basically said, meaning that I agree with you. XD)

In my humble opinion the rest qualifies as romance, moe and ecchi junk. To this day the most lauded and appreciated way for diverting attention from an unexistant plot and lousy character ties.

There will always be the share of moe and ecchi junk, though having a bunch of qualified romances is rarely seen in a season. But hey–moe and ecchi don’t have to have plot, as they cater to fans that want that stuff. It’s just a matter of taste, really. XD

And thanks for the compliments and praise, though I’m not sure our taste is to everyone’s liking. XD And I WISH I had a new Natsume Yuujinchou that could boost my motivation! Alas, I don’t think I’ll find one this season…

You can’t select from all of the shows you discussed in the poll.

The unconfirmed shows cannot be selected, since I suspect they will not be showing in Fall (and Deadman Wonderland definitely won’t be). I believe the rest of the shows are up there. “Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru” is there under its English name, and I think it could end up being very endearing.

Same goes for Arakawa under the bridge

I like the overall story and some of the characters, but the randomness and SHAFTiness gets very tiring. J159 and Hellomotto always pick less mainstream shows, but with everyone’s different tastes, it means all the writers can find something they want to write about even with a low draft pick.

Arakawa 2 and Sora no Otoshimono (I’m with you there Epi it’s a riot, Hellomotto missing ‘is funnybone?)

I like Deadman Wonderland for some reason. It’s got a mystery behind it still and I want closure. But I’ll most likely stick to the manga though.

Some of the other shows look like fun, but I’ll probably just take glimpses and see if I can get pulled in.

Reply

Kabitzin August 21, 2010 at 1:49 am

Yeah Deadman Wonderland is one of those shows that I keep reading just to see where the overall plot/story is going. The fights don’t excite me at all, so I stick to the manga where it’s easy to breeze through boring fight/speeches.

NOT ANOTHER DEADMAN WONDERLAND ON A SEASON PREVIEW!!!

*cough* airing spring and made by Manglobe. Not fall and Satelight

Air Date: April 2011 (Left in this preview since it was rumored for Fall 2010)

I did put this note in, but by the time we saw the graphic most of the stuff had already been typed and it seemed a waste to just delete the whole thing. Plus then some readers might have asked why it was omitted.

Is there a source for the Manglobe thing?

Reply

Kyokai August 20, 2010 at 2:22 pm

Kabitzin, I had to go through the pain of removing Deadman from our list too. Very sad to see it go to Spring next year but I can bet I won’t have issues on quality now that its Manglobe animating it rather than the Satelight rumour.

Kabitzin August 21, 2010 at 1:50 am

Oooh, ok thanks. MAL had it as Satelight.

Kyokai August 20, 2010 at 5:25 am

It’s sad to see Deadman getting postponed from Fall because it was one of my top 3, oh well the new one: Shinrei Tantei Yakumo, Arakawa S02 and Kuragehime; though I’ll be checking out most of the above except for the total out and out ecchi/moe-blobs without any purpose. This made me laugh as it was similar to my own reaction to Shinrei:

YES. OH GOD YES. YES. Oh wait…this isn’t Natsume Yuujinchou, is it?

Btw, Hellomotto, stay away from Togainu no Chi unless you are interested in BL. I don’t think it would feature the amount of stuff revealed in the game but it’d be there to a friendly level. ;)

PS: Deadman Wonderland is animated by Manglobe not Satelight.

Reply

Hellomotto August 20, 2010 at 6:27 am

Be surprised: Shinrei Tantei Yakumo and Kuragehime were also my top preview choices of the season! I’m sad to say that I haven’t seen Arakawa season 1 yet, so that’s a no-go. XD

And yes, I was really excited when I read the Shinrei Tantei Yakumo summary. I mean, it really did sound like Natsume Yuujinchou! Alas, I don’t think anything focusing on youkai will ever be as great as Natsume Yuujinchou was…*sigh*

As for Togainu no Chi: I guess I’ll be avoiding the series then. XD Thanks for the warning; it could’ve turned out to be…surprising, to say the least.

Reply

Kyokai August 20, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Lol, no surprises there but seriously, Halfadeckshort should have committed you to watching Arakawa till now. It’s awesome! ^^

I agree, nothing can be as awesome like Natsume Yuujinchou in youkai context unless a third season comes out, which is wishful thinking. And yeah, stay away from that anime like the plague. xD

Xellos-_^ August 20, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Sorry to disappoint you but Natsume and Yakumo, other then the supernatural is nothing alike.

Natsume is a slice of life anime that deals with youkai

Yakumo is a crime detective story that deals with ghost.

they are very very different.

Hellomotto August 20, 2010 at 3:50 pm

@Kyokai: Yeah, I’ve really got to get on Arakawa; I loved the episodes I watched. Ah, time…I wish there was more of it! I’m also glad you share the same feelings about Natsume Yuujinchou. And yes, there won’t be a third season–actually, if there was, then it might not be as good, since I’m pretty sure there’s not manga material left to base it off of…

@Xellos: Don’t worry; I know they are nothing alike. The first things I read were “ghosts” and peacefully “solving the crime,” but then I went on to read the rest of the summary and did a bit of research and concluded that they had two totally different feels. Thanks for the clarification though!

Kyokai August 20, 2010 at 3:50 pm

@Hellomotto, yeah I know, I wish there was more material but oh well. Tell me about time, I am still finish Elfen Lied, which I started like a two weeks ago. >.<

@ Xellos, Lol, we know that. We just wanted a mutual reference, nothing more. ^^

PS: I like this edit feature a LOT!

Hellomotto August 21, 2010 at 6:39 am

@Kyokai I still need to watch Elfen Lied. XD And yes, the Edit feature is very helpful! It helps out when you want to add something or need to change something. (For me, I usually have some grammatical mistakes, so changing them just means a quick edit! :D )

Havent followed his blogging till now!
So it will be my experience following the 3rd writer from Seaslugteam (the other 2 being Epi and Kabitzin)
I havent been reading the manga…so I am really looking forward to Bakuman!
I read the manga of Fullmetal Alchemist…so the anime wasn’t 100% enjoyable…
Thats obvious ;P I saw Death Note anime without reading the manga…so loved it a lot!!
Hope Bakuman’s the same ^_^
I hope there wont be any spoilers in your blog Jesus :)

I looked up the Nazi hat wearing , whip wielding girl and got the following facts:

(1) She is in high school.
(2) She is married.
(3) She has a gorgeous body that looked nothing like that of a 15 years old, which is who she is.
(4) She introduce herself as the president of “adult bank”.

So here are the questions,

(A) Should we register her husband as an sex offender?
(B) How much Chinese tainted milk did she drink?
(C) “adult bank”? Can I get a loan of a Misato with no payment for a long long time.

Reply

Kabitzin August 21, 2010 at 1:54 am

The thing that surprised me most is that she is married… How old is her husband? And if tainted Chinese milk really helped girls develop hot bodies, there would probably be a crazy black market for it (and it would definitely be made with illegal body parts from endangered species).

I’m not surprised you guys are “trolling”. Keep it up, because the animation studios are clearly trolling US. It’s like they purposely skipped all the shows that deserve a sequel and dove straight for the mediocre crap. Arakawa? Index? Letter Bee?? Hakuouki??? And who the fuck needs another To Love?

Also, what’s with the over-abundance of generic-looking clone shows? Bakuman’s decent enough as a manga, and Kuragehime seems to at least have some chance of being original, but the rest seem utterly lame. Zakuro and Yakumo are perhaps the least retarded-sounding retreads, but not by much. Those are the four I’ll take a shot at, but I’m not holding out much hope.

I guess I’ll also check out Index for the lulz.. at least it’s not another season of that insipid Railgun. I’ll suffer through awful exposition if it at least has the decency to offer up some half-decent action. I guess I’ll also check out Panty to see what the hell it’s about, but I don’t expect I’ll be able to stomach it for long.

Reply

Kabitzin August 21, 2010 at 1:56 am

We like to poke fun at all series, even the ones we like. Plus these previews can be a bit blah without some snide humor interjected.

I’m ok with generic shows, because there is a lot to be said for execution. Not every show can be super original and sometimes it is fun to watch something that while predictable is very well done.

I’m considering marathoning through the rest of Index so I can watch the sequel, but it wasn’t that much fun from what I remember and there are a lot of episodes :blank:

fathomlessblue August 20, 2010 at 11:58 am

I’ll play it safe and stick to Bones and Shaft who seem to be on form recently. So Star Driver, Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru (lovely art, but more maids…. :o ) and naturally Arakawa (yay!). Kuragehime’s animation looks beautiful and Bakuman certainly seems interesting so i’ll give them a go as well. Guess i’ll stick to my usual system regarding comedy series and see what becomes well regarded on the blogs.

the name “Cybuddies” sounds like it would be more appropriate for an animatronic toy line (i.e. Teddy Ruxpin‘s friends)

Lol, when I first read the description on Scamp’s blog my first thought was, “mecha care bears???”. Great minds… ;P

Thank god the end of this terrible season is nearly in sight. Of the new shows, only Ookami-san and Occult academy have been pretty decent with the rest watchable to awful. Please let the upcoming one better, pleeeeassse

I’m afflicted with the ‘I’ve seen the 1st season so have to watch the 2nd season even if I hated S1″ syndrome; so I’ll be stuck with Hakuouki & Index in addition to the sequels I want to watch – Arakawa and Letter Bee.

Massively looking forward to Bakuman since I love the manga, but the art looks a bit shiny, which is a touch worrying.

Kuragehime is a definite, and I’m fascinated by Star Driver (those designs!). Haven’t decided what to blog myself yet, further research is required.

The maskiness of Star Driver should be fun. Hopefully people will pretend to die and come back with masks like Gundam or Sailor Moon.

Really looking forward to Oreimo (My sister can’t be this cute). I’ve read the six novels published so far and love it! It’s pretty different from Nogizaka Haruka, although I’m aware that those who hate siscon/brocon elements won’t like it at all. After all, Kirino herself is into precisely that type of otaku genres

Apart from that MM is going to be much fun (I’m also reading the novels) and well, sora no otoshimono, index and to love ru (as long as there’s not much filler and the quality is a bit better than the first season, the manga at least is pretty entertaining) will also be interesting.

Soredemo machi ga mawatteiru looks promising as well

Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Girls: The ink definitely caught my interest, but the art style is a bit unusual. Not sure if I’m liking it but will watch.
Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto: Maya Sakamoto is a plus, but oddly shaped robots is a minus for me. 3ep test

Yosuga no Sora: Would be more interested if the twin girl was voice by Rie Kugimiya. I really miss her voice. I’m really in the mood for some sad, tear jerking story. Watching
Togainu no Chi: AHHHH!!
Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai: I think I’ll give the manga a try before I try the anime.

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru: I’m liking the character design, and Arashiyama’s gumby animation is enjoyable to watch. Checking it out

Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai: Moe, little perverted sister! SOLD!
Shinryaku! Ika Musume: I’m liking the Squid girl, and have you seen the power of her hair!
Fortune Arterial: Akai Yakusoku:

I liked it better when it was called Karin.

Me too Epi, me too.
Kuragehime: Is giving me the same feeling I had when I saw House of Five Leaves. I almost overlooked it, and watch it thanks to a certain “person” (you know who you are!). I’ll give a try.
Bakuman: Please don’t let it Suck! I read the manga, and I must say, I loved it.
Lets pick up the pace, psychic detective, arakawa, Hakuouki, otoshimono, and Deadman I’ll definitely watch.

Index, please let it be true! I loved the first season (it maybe a bit inconsistent at times, but I still loved it) marathoning it is probably not a bad thing to do. I did it, and enjoyed it. (Probably some are going to dislike this but) I liked Index more than Railgun, (There I said IT!! Sue me!) the animes I mean.

The reason why is more towards the main protagonists. Touma from index has a lot of bad luck, but is able to succeed no matter what happens. Mikoto from Railgun is a powerful girl, (rich I think) sure she is commendable (and can do some amazing things with her power) but I don’t feel like she will have any trouble (maybe a little) through any obstacle standing in her way.

Its like I know Railgun can do it, but with Touma its more of How the hell is he going to make it through this time. You guys dig!

It didn’t sound that good to me on paper, but the trailer looked really good.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume: I’m liking the Squid girl, and have you seen the power of her hair!

It was definitely cute, but I see myself getting bored with constant cuteness and arrow hair. I like my arrows deadly, like Medusa’s in Soul Eater.

Definitely gonna watch To Aru Majutsu no Index 2, Yosuga no Sora, Kaminomi zo Shiru Sekai, Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai, Kuragehime, Bakuman, and Arakawa Under the Bridge 2.

Might try out Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls, MM!, Soredemo Machi wa Matteiru, Shinrei Tantei Yakumo.

For Index, the first season wasn’t all that “fun” because it was just simply introducing characters and terms. The second season will definitely put them to use and give us kick-ass arcs and action along the way. I guarantee that as a person who has read the light novels, although judging from the preview I sincerely hope that J. C. Staff will not try to cram in volume 14 (that makes 8 volumes, the first season could barely fit in 6) and the Arrow of Azusa arc they skipped from volume 5, because that would just be incredibly stupid unless they get more episodes.

But enough about my Index rant, Yosuga no Sora looks pretty good. I’ve heard that loads of people loved Kaminomi zo Shiru Sekai and Bakuman, so I’ll follow those as well. Kuragehime… fujoshi+trap=instant win. Oreimo looks cute (actually, it’s the first time I’ve heard of an imouto who loves playing imouto eroge, so I’ll see where this goes). Arakawa Under the Bridge was pure comedy gold so I’ll definitely be watching the second season of that.

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls has an interesting concept. I’m just a little wary about the fanservice, but I’ll give it a few episodes before I decide. And it’s the first time I’ve actually seen a masochist protagonist so I’ll try that out as well. As for Soredemo Machi wa Matteiru, it depends on how funny the humor is gonna be. Shinrei Tantei Yakumo…it’ll depend on how well they’ll pull this off.

So yeah, I’m still following a lot of shows. Maybe I should tone it down after a while…

Ah well… I wonder how many people are going to watch “Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai” with totally the wrong expectations ^_^ … this is no moe-laden incest-tease, even though Kirino is exceptionally moe, and a certain undertone always remains. But the story in itself is fairly serious in nature, and it depicts the struggle of people with “forbidden” attractions with alot of sensitivity and gentleness. This is NO moe comedy, this is NO seedy cocktease. In other words, it’s totally niche. And it’s totally fascinating.

Index 2 is a given – and since we won’t be doing it, I’ll be able to enjoy watching it all the more. I can say this much: The story is only going to get better. I’m almost missing Touma’s sermons by now ^_^… and now bring the new characters, particularly Itsuwa.

As for the rest, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Usually always 1-2 shows will show up which I’m going to like unexpectedly. I’ll have one eye on Samurai Girls… and the rest, let’s wait and see.

Are we talking about the same work here? After reading the 6 novels published so far, I can say that (w)incest elements are everywhere, even if perhaps not as explicit as in other works. And if this is not comedy, what is it? So far there have been two, three really dramatic episodes in the whole series (one just at the beginning, another in volume two, and to some extent another in volume 5), apart from some moments here and there, because other than that it’s mainly comedy

Honestly I wouldn’t enjoy it if it was all serious and “deep”

Ah man, your right! Just read the first 10 chapters of the manga, OMG I love it! Its like the first romance comedy that I wish the brother and little sister actually get together. And I’m usually against it. That little sister really leaves an impression.

Mentar August 23, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I stand corrected, then. But after what has been available to me (vol 1 of the novel, 11 chapters of the manga), I did NOT get the impression that this was a comedy at all. Yes, it has funny elements. Yes, there’s certain incestuous undertones, but they are not remotely as blatant as other shows like “Oniichan no koto nanka zenzen suki ja nai n dakara ne”. Kirino is struggling with her attraction to anime and the moe aspect of ero-games in the light of public rejection, in particular her father. Kyousuke struggling with his affections for Kirino, while their relationship was horrible to begin with, and only gradually is getting better. Kuroneko has serious issues of her own. Etc etc.

If you would label volume 1 “comedy”, I’d object, sorry. If later volumes get lighter in nature, I can certainly see the show go this way – I was basing my verdict on what I’ve seen and read. And I guess we’ll see if my position that many people are going to watch this show with wrong expectations is so wrong.

Zyl August 23, 2010 at 8:43 pm

Is ‘ecchi tension comedy’ an acceptable compromise? It’s so hard to tell how I’ll actually respond to the anime based on preview data but based on what both you and Sergio have said, I’m guessing I’ll be ok either way.

Reply

jetbird1126 August 23, 2010 at 11:22 pm

I say romance comedy from what I read from the manga. With a side of inevitable challenges here and there. I think the pacing is good, and it doesn’t forget to bring us back to reality (not everything is fun and games)…if that makes sense.

I’ll watch Arakawa 2 for sure, Maria beats Hitagi in my “abusive girls I would still like to date” ranking.
Samurai Girls have picked my interest since back in july when I got a fan featuring it in an anime convention.Asou Natsuko gave me this fan at her autograph session.
Of course I’ll watch TWGOK, thanks to Jason.
I’ll watch minutes of To love ru to drool over the art and Yami.Yabuki-sensei is one of my favorite artist ever.Along with Ramiya Ryou.
Every other show that seems interesting I’ll watch the first episodes to get an idea like always.

And dammit guys SRW OG the inspectors is missing from your list.I’m looking forward to it as a SRW fan even if,I’m like, the only guy on the net not bashing it based on like the 4 scans they released about it.People always complains huh.Even fans. And guess what they’re mostly complaining about: the boobs.Gosh, since when did the internet became like that?Does everyone love traps now and did Jason took over the world!!??Hmmm I’m starting to get kinda off topic there.Anyway They should at least wait for it to start airing. And even if the chara design does end up bad, if they follow the game’s story it can only be damn awesome.Never forget that REAL MEN RIDE EACH OTHER.
I’m also looking forward to that Mazinkaiser SKL ova. They better announce the 2nd season of Shin Mazinger when it’s over.

Also, “Rockmanshii is destined to marry Tenma Tsukamoto on April 21, 2013 おめでとう^o^/ !! ”

A retelling more based on the manga, which is the thing that I’m madly in love with, not the first anime. One arc have been reduced to an episode in it.

jetbird1126 August 24, 2010 at 6:19 pm

I’ve yet to read the manga. From what I’ve been told, many who have read the manga first disliked the anime very much. But an arc reduced to an episode is surprising. I’ll have to read the manga to find out.

The story moves along nicely,The character design is beautifully done and is a hell of a lot better than all the other crap that came out the last 2 seasons. And from what I watched for its second season Hakuoki is pretty awesome.
The only other anime that caught my attention this fall is Togainu no Chi,and from the first episode it doesn’t seem bad so far, there is action, some mystery, good looking characters, so I have no complaints about it so far. I didn’t realize any BL so far but I have watched Bl anime before and if this story is as good as I think it will be then I am willing to watch it further.

Stop bashing anime’s without completing at least a season of it ^^
