He must have eaten Mugi and absorbed her powers!

Summary:

Seikimatsu Occult Academy 04 04 021

She's blocking my view... gonna have to look at her face

Chihiro reveals that she has really fallen in love with Fumiaki, and coerces him into searching for the missing Kozue and Maya.  Fumiaki makes a half-hearted effort, until he sees Mikaze helping with the search and joins her in exploring the Amato shrine.  A hidden passage leads to old tunnels connected to the Zouzan Bunker, and Fumiaki is separated from Mikaze when he runs away in a cowardly fit.

This leads Fumiaki to Maya, and they discuss Tayama Omoikane’s Minakamiya Pyramid theory, which is similar to Christian missionary Sakai Katsutoki’s claim that the Takeuchi Scrolls foretold of pyramids in Japan that connected Japan to various ancient civilizations.  Anyway, they come upon a glowing tree-like structure and a bunch of moth turd, and find that the “tengu” is actually a bunch of mothmen.  With some timely aid from Smile and JK, Maya is able to rescue Kozue from a moth egg/pod while JK wards off the mothmen with his terrible keytar playing.  They all escape to the exit that cowardly Fumiaki found, Mikaze conveniently shows up safely, and Chihiro’s goon detonates a bomb to seal the tunnels.

All I remember is that a girl asked me some questions, but I couldn't tell you what her face looked like

While Chihiro complains about Maya being so annoying and orders her goon to do shady stuff, the vice principal just seems too goofy to be a villain.  Half the time she’s just sitting in her office writing smutty stuff in her poesie de el amour; Halfadeckshort would be proud, no doubt.  I still find Mikaze more suspicious, since it seems like she is the real seductress and it is not clear how she went from serial-tripper to cave expert in time to find the exit and avoid the bombs.

This time we got the true story behind Fumiaki’s recruitment, and it wasn’t surprising to see that he was just a fraud and a beggar before he was forced to time travel back.  While it’s easy to blame him for being a total coward and leaving Mikaze behind, Fumiaki must have taken a real shock when he lost his powers years ago.  I’m actually more disappointed that the monster that took out #5 was a single moth.  C’mon, everyone knows that bug-types are weak to fire, so maybe #5 was also a fraud.  Equally unbelievable was JK’s dowsing rod AOE attack that took out 4 mothmen.  That is like fighting with a wire hanger…  Strangely, my mind did not flinch at all at Smile’s gigantic wrench, though.  I guess that the mothmen must be really weak, considering that Maya’s journal didn’t even have any defensive spells to use against mothmen.

To be fair, I think those mothmen were baby mothmen. There’s a big difference between fighting some crappy Weedle compared to a Mothim

That’s true, but even a single crossbow bolt can kill one! Somewhere, there is outrage in the mothmen community over Waldstein Academy’s raid on a defenseless mothmen daycare.

They’re the type that are dangerous in a swarm. And you know, wasn’t it only in that fake flashback that the other guy was a pyrokinetic?

It wasn’t in the fake flashback, it was literally the first thing they showed in the series.

We did see a mothman take out the pyrokinetic, but we don’t know how many he had fought off previously. He could’ve been exhausted and overwhelmed at that point probably causing him to run in the first place.

Mikaze certainly seems suspicious, I mean theres no way she would genuinely like that spineless wimp Fumiaki, surely? Those two better not get it together, i’ve too many couple-rage issues from celtyxshinra this year as it is.

While the plot steadily going downhill the comedies still pretty much top notch. Chihiro’s terrible cutesy voice at Fumiaki had me in stitches

Oh and props to the show for not only including the Yggrasil/World Tree but also the Mt. Minakamiya Pyramid in one ep. I haven’t heard that particular conspiracy theory used in an anime since the Guyver. Now that brings back some horrible memories….

I knew that this episode was going to strike a chord with you when I saw JK bust out that keytar. ;)

And while I totally approve of Chihiro’s literary efforts, I do not endorse her hair. It’s just weird.

You think her hair is weird, have ya seen Shiki?! :P

Keytar moment, and spanner-upercut, were the best :D

Mikaze is certainly fishy (you should see some of the theories others have come up with on joojoobees’ blog :hmm: ), especially in uber-moe mode. I thought Maya ran out of time/ was too distracted too find any anti-mothmen protection spells in that journal in time, but I might be remembering it wrong… Either way, I’m certainly glad Smile and J.K. turned up at that point, that was just too awesome :D

Haha, I think everyone is suspicious of Mikaze at this point. She certainly seems more capable than the vice principal at the moment. Vice principal needs to step up her writing!

Smile needs his own show. We’ll call it, “Smile Hits Everything with a Wrench.”

Yeah, Smile is the guy who is used to beating up everything and anything.

Ha, that sounds like the title for an episode of Baccano. Kinda funny because everytime I see smile I think “Graham Spector Rip-off!” Now theres a guy who could handle a giant wrench! XD

Haha! I keep thinking exactly the same thing – Graham was awesome :P

Well I was entertained by this episode :D . This bunmei #6 is useless. Maya was carrying Smile’s wrench for him as if it were nuthin’ dang she’s make a great melee fighter in any RPG xD. Mikaze has to be an agent. I mean c’mon we already know no woman would stand by a guy that lets go of her hand, and takes off. I mean HE LET GO OF HER HAND and made olympic gold in the 500k dash!

Chihiro and her little pink diary, writing all sorts of girly squishy mush mush… *Sigh* Abe-sensei is soooo dreamy… *sighhhhhh* Tickled me funny bone. So far she seems to get scared easily though. I mean Maya gave her the look of death and she folded, same with when the former principal went zombie in the auditorium… Is she really reliable?

Catching the tengu with a bug net was entirely foreshadowing.
