The K-ONERS continue to study for the up-coming summer class, but Ritsu would rather spend her last day hanging out with Mio. Since Mio ditched her booty-call attempt, Ritsu and Mugi meet up by chance and decide to have a girls’ night day out. As expected, Mugi is excited by Ritsu’s daily life, including her arcade crane game skills and extremely cheap candy. At their final destination, Mugi confessed that she would rather get smacked across the face because she saw Tom and Jerry do it and decided this is how Americans express their love. Ritsu agreed, so Operation Get-Smacked commenced the next day.
"Yo Mugi. Your breath is kickin’ like an unborn baby. Yo, lemme hit dat like a Sexist Lady. Yo, tramp you like Mercedes and you can say I be da crazy! Yo, please don’t say you are lazy. Oh, pennies in my pocket I’ll use the word maybe. It rhymes and I’m lazy..."
"Ristu, that made absolutely no sense! Thank you for the screentime, though!"
Ritsu explains to Mugi that in order to get smacked the fast and easy way, she should do something annoying, like wearing an outfit that makes her look fat, use a thesaurus to impress editorial bloggers, and D-BLOCK Mio’s strawberry (not her cherry, though. That’s different). Long story short, Mugi compliments Ritsu’s boyish manner and thus gets whacked for it. Meanwhile, Yui starts feeling herself to remind everyone that she is the star of this show. The End.
"Hello, this is Mio speaking." - "Pardon me, Miss, but is your... REFRIGERATOR RUNNING?!?!"
"UGH!! *click* GODDAMN EPISODIC BLOGGERS!!! ALWAYS MAKE A JOKE OUT OF EVERYTHING!!!"
"Hey, where'd my refrigerator go?..."
"Officer, come quick! There's a refrigerator running in my house!!" - "Oh, a refrigerator running ey? YOU THINK YOU'RE SO FUNNY?!?! *click* Damn episodic bloggers!"
“AZU-NYAN HELP ME THE REFRIGERATOR IS EATING ME OUT!!!” – “Yui, what did we say about the sex jokes?”
Impressions:
Color me impressed with a Neopets’ Rainbow Paint Brush! KyoAni managed to hit another home run that would later hit a bunch of bowling pins, thus making a strike. A Home Run Strike! That’s like an oxymoron! *HIGH FIVES*. Back to more serious matters: After 13 (now 14) episodes of K-ON!!, there are no signs of low budget or intentionally cheap tricks. The K-ONERS continue to please the slice-of-lifers while adding the much needed comedy segments, which I must add are perfectly timed and even unexpected as well (didn’t know Yui would come back with that strawberry gag towards the end, haha!)
Now that the praise is over, let’s get something straight: Mugi did not want to hang out with Ritsu at all; She realized that if she hung out with Ristu, she was bound to receive more screen time, and it seems her plan worked perfectly. Mugi and Ritsu make a surprisingly good duo, even out-besting Mio this round, though I expect Mugi to warm the benches next episode. If she were active in every episode, she wouldn’t be the fat piggy we all know and love!
Speaking of piggies, Mugi definitely had the munchies in this episode. To be able to take a wiff of Mugi’s breath would be absolute Stank Beaver (in a good way)… It was also great seeing Mio put on her best Mel Gibson face. I never thought Mio would be the screaming, abusive type, but after that leaked audio tape, I guess it’s official… Hmm, what else? Oh yeah, Mio holding a giant Cheez-It in her hand. Best. Episode. Ever.
OP 2 Impressions:
Excellent OP! While GO GO Maniac was alright, it felt more like a rehash of the first season’s OP, especially with the sliding instruments and sliding still-framed characters (another oxymoron?). This time the animation felt fresh and original, not to mention very playful and cute. As always, I must mention some made-up inconsistencies: Does Yui have enough money to hire a stunt double? Perhaps her sister Ui decided to lend her a helping hand? Who knows (though, I’m pretty sure we’re all aware that Yui can most definitely hire a stunt double… what with all that money).

ED 2 Impressions:
Nitpick time! I’m still pissed at that “mic-conveniently-covering-the-mouth” section of the ED, but I can get over it since slow motion will always be cool in my book. There is also a segment where I did not like the contrast. Perhaps I’m just too picky, but dark hair on a black background is too disorienting for the viewer, especially when it occurs for a quick second. We later see Mio’s black hair against a white door, which of course is a more satisfying choice. Let’s ignore the possible themes/symbolism with that door and head to the most import part of all: Jay-Z. Here is Exhibit A and Exhibit B. Hey, I’ll even add Exhibit C! Is this a tribute or another case of swagger-jacking?
Despite my complaints, I’ve never been so pumped for an anime ED since “Don’t Say Lazy”. You gotta admit that most anime EDs are just still frames… Speaking of “DSL” (*BA DUM PSH*), I noticed an almost similar guitar tune/beat/tempo/whatever that plays in “No, Thank You!” and “DSL”. I’d make a youtube comparison of that tiny clip but I’m far too lazy.

Mugi’s a masochistic perv.
Love love love the ED!!
Whenever Listen!! pops up in my mp3, I immediately skip it and think “I NEED THE NEW HAWTNESS!!” It’ll probably take a while for that single to come out, but I can wait. I have the short version that I can loop for another 9 hours or so…
You mean a FAT masochistic perv!
PHAT MUGI!
DJ PHAT MUGI aka JAWST AH MOHMENTO PRU-EEZU!!
My favourite moment was when Mio revealed that she had been waiting for Ritsu to call back and was resentful that Ritsu decided to cheat on her with Mugi instead.
LOL at Exhibits A and B!
It reminds me when I waited 2 years for an email response from tota-I MEAN… UHHH LET’S IGNORE THAT!!!… Mio should be honest with Ritsu. It’s the only way this relationship can work out!
HOVA!! BLACK POWER!! MARS POWER!!
I refuse to accept that Mugi’s fat, she’s just got more cushion for the pushin’. Always a good thing… I mean if she didn’t have those darn lesbian tendancies that is.
Wasn’t huge on last weeks ep as awesome symbolism aside, it was still a Azusa ep and the trippy-ness didn’t do anything for me. But way to pull it back with mo mo Mugi. That scene of her stealing Mio’s s’berry and just staring at her instantly made it to my fave K-on!! scene ever!! I’m seriously thinking of having the stills framed and placed over my Guernica print. Move over Picasso, what have you done recently?
Totally agree with the cheap animation tricks covering Mio’s mouth in the new ED. At last when they did it in the last one you still got a few scenes of her singing/miming. I can forgive it as the songs amazing, close competion with “Don’t say lazy” and easily the best new song of the new spring season. That’s not really saying much but still… Even the OP was an improvement on the last one.
Ps. Liked the Jay-Z comparison but I reckon Mio’s rippin’ on the Ting Ting’s Shut up and let me go . Thank god the actual song doesn’t sound similar. Ugh!
Maybe Ritsu is jealous that Mugi is so “fat” in all the right areas
Haha, yeah! I loved that scene! Mugi was all like, “OHHH WHACHU GON’ DO NOW, BITCH?! I JUST STOLE YO BERRY!!! *Mio starts crying*”. If I had the money, I’d frame it, too.
YO JEANS WERE ONCE SO CLEAN I BET YOU CHANGE YOUR WARDROBE SINCE WE MET~
Now Oh-so E-zah-Lee your ovah me!
Gone is love, it’s you that ought to be HOLDIN’ ME
I’m not con-tain-a-ble!
This turns up it’s not sus-tain-a-ble!
I’M AIN’T FREAKIN’ I’M NOT FAKIN’ DIS!!
MMMMMMMM LOVE THAT SONG (and The Ting Tings!), and I think you made a good point; I noticed that the “Don’t Say Lazy” video and the Ting-Ting one you provided have a similar grassy set… but maybe that’s just me.
Wonder who came first, The Jay-Z or The Ting Ting?
Finally an episode where there’s plenty of Mugi for all.
I think you went too easy on the new opening; it was terrible – just like the first. Thankfully the endings have been spectacular.
Santa was very generous this episode! PLENTY OF FAT FOR EVERYONE!!! ;P
Really? The OP wasn’t that bad. They even stole Red-Glasses-Girl’s lunch money in one scene; that must count for something! Well, to be honest I like it more for the cutesy animation, not so much for the actual song. I was never a big fan of moe girls singing, but moe anything else (aka: K-ON TEETH) is alright in my book.
annnnnnd here’s a pic of Ritsu batting her eyes!
I’ll try watching it with the sound off just for you, haha.
