Now that Festival NARF is over, the Senior K-ONERS are hard at work studying the rest of their summer away. This leaves Azusa all by her lonesome, so she decides to have a lose-weight contest just have fun with Ui and Jun instead of moping around at home.

Throughout the episode, Azusa had multiple wacky (but fun) dream-sequences involving the Senior K-ONERS, and she realized how much she will miss them come the next school year. The End.

Impressions:

My impressions tell me that this episode was impressive… I’ll even call it the best K-ON episode to date, and not because I’m a dirty lolicon like the majority of K-ON watchers. Here we get to see Azusa’s thoughts, dreams, and realization that the K-ONERS will soon leave her side when they head for college. She came to the Light Music Club only to practice her instrument, but what she received was a circle of friends. Because she entered the club strictly for music, will they continue to be friends even when music is not involved? (hint: of course they will because that’s practically what the whole season was about… y’know, NOT playing music…) Even though it’s likely that they will continue to be friends, the fact that she will be the next leader of the Light Music Club means that she will have other responsibilities beyond eating cake with a bunch of lazy friends. Perhaps when those old K-ON hags move out, K-ON will finally become an anime about music.

Once again, I’m loving the Jun-chan screen time, and… uhhh *thesaurus* will reiterate my assumption that she is the most realistic character of the bunch. Sure she may be annoying and snotty at times, but aren’t all girls like that? doesn’t everyone act that way occasionally? I think I would complain too if one of my friends were late for an appointment (in this case: the visit to the pool), especially when that friend is wearing a jacket in the blazing sun. Though the Japs have a long history of wearing skirts in snow, I don’t think jackets in summer work as well… If anything, Ui is too unrealistic with her perfect wife-type character, but we’re not here to note the realism of K-ON, but rather the similarities we can find with each character. I admire Jun because she reminds me of a girl that I once knew, and though that may upset most of our K-ON viewers, Jun-chan is not as snotty as you think. She’s just a girl who wants to have fun.

Perhaps I felt a strong connection with this episode because of the gags, especially the running gags (God knows I love me some running gags…). It also had a hefty dose of just plain zaniness, and I would also like to mention the split second where Mio, Mugi, Ritsu, and Yui are swimming in Azusa’s yakisoba. It was a one-two-punch of one-trick-ponies. Like a J159 post! Also, just one more nitpick: I HATE AZUSA’S SWIMSUIT!!! Why does she still wear that? Without sounding like a loli-gagger, it’s not cute or sexy at all; it’s like a tutu. In comparison, most of the K-ONERS were drawn maturely in this episode, probably to signify that their expiration date is coming soon. Oh boy! Can’t wait!
