Durarara!! 15 15 01

I love how Shizuo wears the helmet while waiting, but immediately takes it off once Selty starts driving

Summary:

Durarara!! 15 15 02

Anri, no! Hot pot cake is VERY fattening!

Tokyo Incidents reporter Shuji is back in town to do an article about the strongest fighter in Ikebukuro, and the consensus is that for fist-fighting it’s Simon, but for free-form fighting it’s Shizuo.  Shuji’s been down on his luck ever since his wife ran away and his daughter Haruna had to transfer schools, so he puts a lot of effort into following leads for his story.  When Shuji gets home, however, it looks like a shadowy Haruna stabs him in the back and now all Shuji wants to do is watch over Anri and cut up Shizuo.

Meanwhile Anri has been having a trippy dream where there are amusement rides all around and her dad doesn’t really mean it when he calls her fat.  Anri’s been having this dream every night, but unfortunately her parents died in an incident 5 years ago.  That was when the slasher first appeared in the city, and now Anri just spaces out and hopes bad situations (like with Takashi) will just go away on their own.  As the newly possessed Shuji finally catches up to Anri, he gets hit by the van Kadota, Saburo, Erika, and Walker were riding in, and then Selty and Shizuo also show up to run Shuji over again.

You think this is scary? Wait till your insurance company raises your premium, mwahahahacutcutcutlovecut!!!

When Tom mentioned they were going to pay a visit to a sex-offender teacher, I wondered if that means that Takashi owes moneybecause of Haruna’s move.  The mystery of Saika deepened this episode, and Shuji’s kitchen knife clearly said “Made in Japan 2009″ implying that either the evil spirit can travel between weapons or control people remotely.  Apparently Saika makes it so your eyes glow red, you get obsessed with your most recent goal, you want to protect moe moe Anri, you feel all stabby but gain absolutely no skills with bladed weapons, and you have an intense urge to troll/spam chatrooms.  Damn that sword is evil!  It’d be ironic if the spirit controlling Haruna and the other slashers were fragments of Saika looking to reunite with the piece that Anri has, like a headless sword searching for its head.

It was very unrealistic how Saburo had a cow over a pebble dinging his van, and yet he had no problems ramming Shuji or letting Shizuo rip a door off.  At least the van scene confirmed that Selty’s clothes do not disappear in the presence of bright lights, as the only headlights I saw were the ones on Saburo’s van.  Speaking of Selty, the scene where Shizuo was bouncing up and down on Selty’s bike made it look like Shizuo was humping Selty.  With all the tension between the Dollars and the Yellow Scarves mirroring the conflict between the Blue Squares and the Yellow Scarves, I wonder if Izaya had something to do with the previous gang war.  Other than that, I felt the episode was kinda boring overall, since spaced-out Anri is boring.  Bring out secretly-evil bitchy slasher Anri already!

I think Saburo’s lack of reaction is perfectly logical:
1) Creepy Slasher Shuji definitely needs to be put down.
2) It’s Shizuo and he’s pissed. What are you going to do?

The lack of weapon skills is kind of awkward to be honest. If I forged a demonic sword capable of enslaving a multitude of people, I’d make it so they all fought like Kenshin or something.

If they all fought like Kenshin, nobody would get cut, de gozaru…

Okay, if they all fought with the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu. orz

Decent episode shows a bit more of the Slasher’s ways, the idea of the different weapons being fragments of the original demon sword sounds like a great thought I could see that happening. And I agree strange how the guy got mad when his van got a dent but not when the door gets ripped off, course it’s Shizuo like Rakuen said, I think he would turn and use you as a weapon then lol.

LOL, I guess when you put it that way, Saburo probably kept his mouth shut so he wouldn’t be a sign post replacement.

you have an intense urge to troll/spam chatrooms. Damn that sword is evil!

Someone needs to get these Saika users off the tourney~

Actually I wonder if that catches on. Trolls being called Saika

I’d bet money on Izaya having something to do with the Yellow Scarves / Blue Square’s conflict – maybe it was like a trial run for him before he attempts to throw Ikebukuro into complete chaos to awaken Celty’s head. Also Izaya being somehow involved would explain why Kida is so very wary of him.

Oh good point, especially if Masaomi turns out to be the “General” that the Yellow Scarves are referring to.

I think there was little time at the end of the episode to show Togusa’s reaction over his ripped off van door. This may be better shown on the next episode. Usually the next episodes show more details about the same event then the previous one.

He better be pissed, because that is money that could go towards concert tickets.

even if he was pissed off(he probably is), what can he do?
its shizuo were talking about.

Halfadeckshort April 28, 2010 at 5:31 pm

as the only headlights I saw were the ones on Saburo’s van

It might have been warm outside.

Izaya never visits anyone just for fun, and we know he goes to the hospital to see Saki, so I think his involvement in the last gang war is pretty much a certainty (I wonder if he was chat friends with Saki like he is with Mikado). I hadn’t thought about the Blue Squares/Yellow Scarves as a test run for the upcoming conflict until now, but it would make sense to have a trial run before the main event as Caraniel suggested.

And I totally agree about Anri, she needs to get stabby NOW.

Speaking of Izaya, I’m kinda disappointed he hasn’t made any moves on his crazy board game recently.

Well Shizuo jumping up and down on Celty’s HORSE and Celty didn’t say ANYTHING… She even said he makes her feel uneasy to an extent and he’s much stronger than her. I’d have thought she would have chewed him out for that but she didn’t. So yeah I seriously doubt anyone talks back to Shizzy when his temper a flarin’

My speculation is when Daddy Dr. finished headnapping Celty’s head he sold it off to a pawn shop that might have sold it off to some cutlery company that melted it down and thats how it has fragents in various cutlery items… Can you imagine a posessed cuisenart or blender blades making demonic smoothies?

#no visible spoiler, don’t worry#

I read about episode 16 on animesuki’s forum after watching it and I noticed that some people couldn’t ‘feel’ this epi like they should because of the spoilers spread all over the internet. The little advice I can offer (I know, if advices were really good, they would be sold off, not given away) is: dont read spoiler and try not to get near them. They can ruin the whole experience of each episode. And Durarara deserves to not be spoiled. ;)

Well, now, to contradict myself, a little spoiler over something I mentioned before:
