Farewell Omni

by Kabitzin on March 22, 2010 in Random Stuff

I don’t usually do this, since blogs die all the time, but I think Omni’s imminent retirement from blogging deserves a special mention.  Omni’s summaries were such an incredible resource, and I don’t think anyone else ever put in as much work or love into blogging as he did.  Random Curiosity will be greatly missed.

I also wonder what this means for Animeblogger.net which has been floundering for quite some time.  Having helped THAT Anime Blog with their move, I was well aware of the AB server issues, but they will soon be losing their flagship blog.  It’d be sad to see the whole thing go down, since it was such a hub back in the day, and the Antenna is still a useful tool for a good number of readers.

Been following Random Curiosity since the day it came out. Never thought it would get as big as it did, becoming the definitive blog. Always wondered how Omni found the time to run such a thing and blog so many shows non-stop and with RAWS too. Pretty impressive when you think about it!

End of an era. Have yet to see another blog reach the same heights as RC.

I never thought I’d see the day when Omni would leave the blogosphere. I barely knew him, but… I don’t know. I still feel pretty sad about it, maybe even depressed. No one can deny the amount of influence he had on the past generations of anime fans (50 Million views?! HOLY CRAP!!!), and I really respect that.

I guess I’ll also take this opportunity to say Thank You Kabitzin. Let’s continue to wave our SS flag.

Also going to miss Random Curiosity, like so many others. But I do see alot of familiar names on other blogs too, so I guess I’ll still get to @ the commentators and discuss anime like before… it’ll be more spread than earlier, though. :< Oh, well. This blog looks fine. :D

Honestly at first I thought this was an elaborate April Fool’s Joke (still hope that it is).

RC was one of the first blogs I’ve really followed and it’s inspired me in so many different ways (such as entry styles etc)

I’ve never figured out how Omni was able to pump out so much content at such a high frequency for 5 straight years but I’m grateful that he did.

It’s the end of an era and all the best to Omni, Divine and co. on their future endeavors XD

Definitely sad to see Omni go. I echo Bass, it’s like an end of an era.

I wonder what it would take to save/right AB.net. It’s an anime blog historical remnant, it would be a shame to lose it, but I imagine the costs of running it must be massive.

Indeed the end of an era. I actually grew up from a teen to an adult while following Omni’s blog.

…..So I guess this is my new blog site now that RC is gone?

Well I guess Divine could still work things out, but just one guy maintaining a whole site would probably mean there’ll be MUCH less blogs in the best case, and that he’ll quiet shortly after in the worst case.

 At least, it’s cool how there’re a lot of the more intresting commentators here like Acylia AznCoffee and RmX.

I only really discovered RC about a year ago after a fairly long hiatus from anime and feel its a shame that I never knew of it sooner. Like Jesus159 stated I feel a bit gutted and about omni retiring, his blogging seemed such a constant in the anime world and the guy was essentially a one man army in the field. How the hell he found time to be so prolific i’ll never know. I imagine he’s probably the type of guy whos all or nothing so I completely respect his decision.

Thanks for all your time and effort Omni, it was seriously a pleasure

Given the RC thread is already flooded with appreciation and the main Man himself Commented here himself.

I’ll throw in my appreciation here, Where do I start from ?? Oh yeah!!, I guess I could refer myself
as an old Timer/ Follower of RC. If memory serves me that was a pretty long time ago, give or take 4+yrs.

As I recall, I just stumbled on Mai-Otome anime, which some searches later… WHAALLAH!!! I stumbled unto RC and I never left. I’ve got to give him praise, truth be told Omni is the MAIN MAN. I guess in some way, like he said, it was time.

All the best & Thnx
