Summary:
Did you just immediately subcontract out the work I gave you?!
Namie is funding Seiji’s little love romp, but when a frantic Melty takes Seiji’s phone and chucks it into a fountain, it sets off a race to find Seiji. Namie enlists Izaya’s services, but it seems that Izaya is actually advising Melty on how to avoid the pursuers while at the same time securing Seiji for Namie. We then get a flashback of how Namie and Seiji spent a lot of time alone at their Uncle’s place and how their Uncle had Selty’s head in a jar. Namie made the mistake of showing Seiji the head, and naturally he fell in love with it. Namie considers this her first and only mistake.
We also get a flashback of how Mika stalked Seiji and then accidentally found Seiji after Seiji stole Selty’s head out of Yagiri Pharmaceuticals. For her trouble, Mika got beaten very badly, and Namie was overjoyed that Seiji needed his big sis to protect him. Anyway, Seiji and Melty run all around town trying to avoid the cops, and that is when Shizuo and Selty spot them. Selty immediately recognizes her head, but Melty just screams and runs away with Mikado’s help. Now everyone wants to know who Mikado is, in order to track down Melty, and Namie is not afraid to have Melty killed in order to protect her bro-con.

Now more than ever I suspect that Namie just revived Mika and gave her some contact lenses and a scar tattoo to trick Seiji. Why would Namie let Seiji spend his time macking with the head that he is really in love with? Wouldn’t it make more sense for Namie to trick Seiji into hanging out with the girl he hates so that she can point out the truth later and win Seiji’s love back (and kill Mika a second time)? Plus, it makes no sense for Selty’s head to love Seiji and be so afraid of Namie. I thought Namie was smart, but it sure was stupid of her to show young Seiji Selty’s beautiful head. Namie should have started by playing doctor with young Seiji so that they could learn about anatomy through some hands-on lessons.
Seiji is more and more annoying by the episode, and it’s clear he’s got some screws loose. His pen stabbing was so retarded, and in comparison even Shizuo looked a lot smarter (way to not pull out the pen). I’ve actually stabbed myself in the hand with a pencil (by accident), and I still have a scar there to remind me. In that respect, I was suffering along with Selty after I saw Shizuo take so many pen-stabs. Also, as terrible as it is, I was snickering the whole episode when I realized that Selty would be horrified to found out what all those various guys were doing with her head. What? What?! Don’t judge me!

With every post on the subject, I’m becoming more convinced that your theory (that other people share) about Mika is correct. It just makes the most sense, although Namie is as nuts as Seiji if she believes this will eventually bring him closer to her.
I agree, it just makes way more sense than having the head on Mika’s body. Plus, what would be the point of harvesting all those body parts if Selty’s head already has a body? Can’t wait to find out what Yagiri Pharmaceutical is up to and whether their stock goes up after they get acquired by Nebula.
The Mika-makeover theory would also explain why Scar-ty is so enamoured of Seiji – clearly only a stalker would love that nutjob.

I’m with you on the Melty scar tattoo theory. BTW, have you ever seen Face of Another? It’s a film about plastic surgery and identity. Given that the novel was written back in the 50s, I suppose it qualifies as Science Fiction. Anyways, check the trailer out.

I’m not so sure that Mika just got a quick scar-job. First of what’s her face (boobs girl uh.. can’t recall her name) didn’t recognize Mika when she bumped into her. Secondly I think Seiji would know exactly how Selty’s head looks like after staring at it for so long. Third of all, why would Selty mistake Mika’s head with scar for her own head?

Mika and Selty look very similar, and with a little makeup I bet Mika looks just like Selty.
If you look closely at the supposed “head replacement” operating room scene, the figure on the right in scrubs has hair that is awfully similar to Shinra’s. His specialty is plastic surgery, so it would make a lot of sense to call him in if they were going to fake something like that. Since Mika and Selty look similar, it probably wouldn’t have taken much to make them look almost identical. Seiji has only ever seen her head in the jar anyway, and there’s got to be some distortion from whatever the heck she’s floating in, so fooling him wouldn’t take that much. And besides her convenient memory loss, Melty is a little too good with cellphones for a head that was only recently decanted.
I like your point about Shinra being in the operating room, but Selty’s pretty good with cellphones too so I don’t know about your last point.
Body Selty has had years to perfect her texting, but the Melty combo has only been on the streets for a couple weeks max, right? I thought she was pickled before cell phones got into general usage, and I don’t think she placed too many calls from inside the jar.
I dunno, I always assumed that pickle-Selty was in a lab doing constant telemarketing calls as a cruel punishment from Namie. What else would those wires be for?

I always thought that due to Celty’s supernatural nature isn’t it quite possible that her head has enchantress properties? I mean that one Jii-san artist that kept drawing her body but couldn’t remember her face said that she was a “looker” even without her head. And then we have the crazy guys that fell in love with her head only…
In that case I’m thinking that if Celty ever puts her head on the neck… it would probably be the end of the world since men would start WW3 over her or something.
