Summary:

Fresh off getting handled by Selty, the 3 kidnappers hit up an apartment building full of illegal aliens in order to meet their quota. They’re grabbing victims for human experiments being conducted at Yagiri Pharmacy; I guess Seiji’s older sis Namie loves him so much that she hooked up Selty’s head to Mika’s body as a favor for her little bro. The kidnappers figure they can avoid drawing Selty’s attention by sparing teenage girls, but the crazy middle-aged gaijin they grab turns out to be Kaztano, a friend of Saburou. Knowing that Kaztano is Saburou’s only source for scalped front-row tickets to idol Hijiribe Ruri’s concerts, Dollars members Saburou, Kyohei, Erika, and Walker set out to get Kaztano back.
Kaztano does an excellent job of leaving bread crumbs by struggling so much that Kanazawa-san gets doused in chloroform and then convincing the kidnappers to ditch Kanazawa (with Kaztano’s cell phone). It’s not long before the Dollars find Kanazawa, get the exchange location, and retrieve Kaztano. We also learn that no one has ever seen the leader of the Dollars, as members just mysteriously get a URL and a password when recruited. Kyohei shows a screen listing sinamon, MONTA, and utumin, and states that as soon as you login you get your nickname displayed on the Dollars site.

From the conversation in the beginning, it seems that Mikado is Tanaka Tarou (the boring blue icon), Selty is Setton (the black icon with headphones), and Izaya is Kanra (orange female icon). The way Izaya and Shizuo were helping out with the search makes me think they might be affiliated with the Dollars as well. As for the Dollars organization, I am not sure I can respect them anymore. They’re just a bunch of random losers who were gathered together. Watching Erika and Walker “torture” the kidnapper in the van made me suspect they didn’t really torture him in the CIA sense. They probably just babbled on and on like stereotypical otaku until the kidnapper couldn’t take any more of their dorky discussions.
That Namie is an interesting character. It seems like she might be a little too in love with Seiji. Given how similar Selty and Mika look (from the neck up), wouldn’t it be hilarious if Namie just tattooed a scar on Mika’s neck, gave Mika some contacts and pretended she had put Selty’s head on Mika’s body? I figure this human experimentation will form the main plot of Durarara!! so details will probably come painfully slow. As a final note, Selty was cute and funny this episode, getting stuck with Shinra’s shopping list and also being extremely paranoid about aliens.

What I got from that scene was that they were acting out and describing what they were going to do to him, and the promise of such a gasoline-based torture was enough for him to crack. It was an amusing scene, much like the episode as a whole. Such a hilarious episode, I hope the next one lives up to it!
It was definitely an amusing episode, and now I know what to look out for on half-price sushi nights. Seems like something Yagiri Pharmaceuticals ought to look into…

I read part of the manga first, so when I saw this scene I felt they took out all the fun out of their torture method, though I did find it amusing. I really wanted to see them play out that scene from the manga.

I like how Namie takes the saying “When life gives you lemons, make lemonaid,” and applies it. When life gives your brother stalkers, make… er… young Frankenselty.

Also forgot to mention that Kaztano managed to send a text message from the future since the text was from May 25, 2010.
Nice review, was a fun episode lots of nice things to discuss I still think the head in the jar belongs to someone else or it really is Celty’s either way its fun to think, lol i didn’t notice the text from the future lmao nice xD
