Brim-bending FAIL

WTF happened to Ayane's hair?

Sawako and Ume have a little Shota fangirling session, and Ume reveals how she’s always known that her “friends” were really just bitches trying to poach her male groupies.  Back then it really got to her, and Shota found her while she was crying by herself in the classroom.  He comforted her, and that’s why Ume fell in love with him; furthermore, she never told anyone about her feelings for Shota for fear that her frenemies would interfere.  As Ume laments that HS was supposed to be her time to make a move, Sawako implores her to at least clear up the misunderstanding about Pin.

Encouraged by Sawako’s advice, Ume actually gets up the nerve to deny the crush on Pin and confess to Shota.  Obviously Shota declines since he’s already got someone he loves, but Ume suddenly feels free to be more like her real self.  Although Ume feels she can’t be friends with Sawako, she at least acknowledges Sawako as a worthy rival.  Sawako makes good on her potential during the after-festival karaoke party, by falling asleep on the stairs.  Ayane slyly sends Shota out to molest the sleeping Sawako, and while Sawako sleeps peacefully, Shota finally calls her by her first name.

Shota going for a little Sawagrope

I like that they fleshed Ume’s character out some more so viewers would feel bad for her, and at least she’s finally being more honest and bossing her bitchy frenemies around.  Ume laid down the gauntlet by telling Sawako that even if Sawako and Shota hooked up that she would totally not be available for a threesome (but here’s the cell phone number just in case). I liked how Pin advised Ume that even a failed confession gets a guy thinking about you, and she realized that maybe she could just spam confessions every other day in hopes of Shota eventually failing his saving roll.

As for the festival, I’m glad it’s over.  I didn’t like Sawako’s active hairstyle at all, and even worse Chizuru was unable to win any of the remaining soccer games by herself.  I guess that red shirt wasn’t the bee’s knees.  And what was the design supposed to be, anyway?  With that out of the way, Shota and Sawako’s relationship has really started to heat up.  I figure Shota’s at least tied with Ryu now, because if he hadn’t shown up, Sawako would have fallen down the stairs and broken her neck!

Gotta go against you on the hair issue. Sawako with her hair up is adorable.

It was ok at first, but after a while I realized I much preferred Sawako-classic.

Whenever I see that red shirt I see a decaying set of gums with a few teeth still left hanging by thin strands.

When I first saw it, I thought it was supposed to be a non-infringing take on the Rolling Stones logo. It does look a lot like those fake hillbilly teeth though.

I can definitely see the hillbilly teeth. At first it kinda looked like nerves/neurons to me.

Out-of-the-closet-bitchy Ume is a vast improvement over secretly-emo-sneaky-backstabber Ume. And I’m glad that she got the courage to confess… it’s about time that somebody did. It was kinda funny how Shota used Ume for his first name practice girl though… makes me wonder if they’re going to be practicing anything else together (hey, there’s plenty of episodes left for this to go the Makoto route). I’m also glad that the sports festival is over, and although Sawako predictably fell asleep at the party, at least Shota knows that she goes down before 9. Hey, wait, I didn’t mean it like that….

Also, LOL @ the hat failure, I totally missed that.

Nooooo!!! I didn’t realize that at first, but now it makes sense. Poor Ume gets used by everyone!

at least Shota knows that she goes down before 9.

The red shirt’s design was really bizarre. I thought it sort of looked like a weird donut cut up into parts, or perhaps some colorful sea slugs forming a circle or an abstract, open oyster. Very WTF.

Haha, sea slugs mating ritual.

It would be awesome if Kazehaya rejecting Kurumi was the beginning of a long and fruitful period of her life where she becomes bitchy, arrogant, flirty and a master manipulator of men, throwing them out like used ragdolls to only one day in the future be conquered by a real man… the Pin of 10 years in the future.

By the way, I’m sad that you didn’t mention Kurumi’s awesome plastic frame grade 2 sunglasses stolen from the Olsen Twins circa Full House :(

Haha, that is like the dream of lolicons everywhere, since she’d be legal but still look loli.

I should have! I definitely noticed those ugly glasses, but isn’t that kinda thing cool now?
