Summary:

We start off with a young Meat (apparently brainwashed slaves), Colio Tonies, discussing how he is a bomb that exists to kill Hamutz Meseta, Director of the Armed Librarians.  Hamutz appears to have the power to drop tons of glowing sperm down in order to spy on conversations remotely, and she listens in on three members of the Sindeki Church aboard the Silver Smoke.  The ship is carrying new Meats from Kra District, and Volken McMarney’s team of Armed Librarians are on their way to beat up the clergymen and gather evidence.  Unfortunately, all the Meats seem to be wired with internal explosives and zerg Volken’s team in a kamikaze attack.

Telepath Mirepoch Finder relays Hamutz’s orders to continue the operation, and eventually Volken’s team is victorious.  Once aboard, they find tons of Meats and also the words “Vend Ruga is alive / He is living inside Olivia Litlet.“  Before the Librarians can get all the Meat to safety, explosives sink the boat, and Colio is thrown into the water where he absorbs a fragment of Shiron Byacornise’s book.  As Mirepoch explains, Shiron spread the deadly Dragon Pneumonia across the Ronar Dukedom 280 years ago because only she knew how to create the cure.  With her laughing magical sword Shlamuffen to protect her, Shiron made major profits and it sounds like the Sindeki Church is looking to repeat history.  Later in a bar, Hamutz reveals to Mattoalast Barori that she has found the man who could kill her.

Reaction:

I found it interesting that clergyman Steven Segal Crekessa wanted to be this awesomely bound thick book, considering that in this world books are just big ole slabs of rock.  It was also curious that Casma jumped into the water to rescue that first Meat bomb; wouldn’t it be way better to throw him a life saver or some of Volken’s levitating disc spam?  Moreover, it’s odd that those three evil dudes would just leave without taking the Shiron fragment.  I guess I shouldn’t dwell on these little details too much, but it makes me wonder if the story is going to be a bit loose.

Overall this episode was confusing in an unfocused way, but I did like the basic premise.  It was funny how Shiron told Colio that she loves him… cause he’s da bomb.  I wonder how he plans on getting close enough to Hamutz to kill her, considering he can’t even hold a conversation.  I bet the next few episodes will follow Norotei Maruchie and her silly cowgirl buddy Kyasariro trying to avoid Ireia’s watchful eye, which will inevitably lead to them bumping into Colio.

Watching this only for the AYAKO DOCTRINE. Otherwise I dunno, it was kind of dumb first episode if well animated.

I know what you mean. What about Mirepoc? She’s got Miyuki as a VA, but her weapons and power look lame and her outfit is just absolutely terrible.

Miyuki’s a great seiyuu but her problem is she tends to ‘blend in’ like Fumiko Orikasa so I never realize she’s even part of any show. That and she’s yet to carry any show on her own IMO.

That’s it. The Ayako Doctrine compels me so. /zombie

I wonder why the bad guys are making so many meats when training a few good assassins could be possibly more effective and take less resources. I think their plan is akin to trying to buy all the combinations of a lottery, but the problem is they don’t know the set of available numbers. Maybe there’s some prophecy or something that the first episode failed to disclose.

These guys seriously need to take some tactics lessons from the librarians in Toshokan Sensō. I mean, letting the magic user go into a potential melee situation? What gives? And then everybody charging the boat that was obviously full of explosives? But all this talk of meats cracks me up, and between Hazmut’s should-have-been-more-see-through yet sensitive bunny appliqué shirt and the fiercely named “Shlamuffen” (“Have a taste of my Shlamuffen!” or “You’re going to regret it when I whip my Shlamuffen out!”) I couldn’t stop laughing. Plus it’s got Miyuki in it, so I should have added this to my watch list sooner. Ah well. The ep 3 captions and screenshots convinced me that I was missing out, so here I am trying to catch up as usual.
