Valkyria Chronicles 17

Summary:

It’s almost time for the Festival of Spirits, and Isara stays up all night singing her dad’s favorite Darcsen folk song and making a charm for Rosie.  We get a quick shot of Alicia’s fast healing, but thanks to the OP it’s no big deal.  Faldio shows how lame he is by re-gifting that crappy rock that Alicia already threw away, while Ramal opts to give a bracelet (I think) to Isara.  The rest of Squad 7 also celebrates, but unfortunately Georg has decided to send Squad 7 on another suicide mission.  Irene tips Welkin off that Georg and Maurits have been meeting secretly, and it’s clear that this is a move to eliminate a rival and a witness to Maurit’s foiled plot.  Nonetheless, Welkin has no choice but to act as the vanguard in the assault on the fortified base at Mulberry Beach (which holds little value).

Meanwhile, Isara is busy developing some smoke bombs/shells to mitigate the lack of cover on the beach.  The plan is for the troops to advance under cover while the Edelweiss busts the bunkers.  Rosie is the point for the troops, and when she bends down to pick up her dropped charm, she narrowly avoids getting headshot by a sniper.  Intrigued that Isara’s charm really worked, Isara and Rosie have a moment on the beach, but the moment is completely ruined when the sniper reappears and shoots Isara in the chest.  The Gallian regulars pour in from the southwest to rout the remaining Imperial forces, but everyone but Rosie is unaware that Isara has been killed.

Reaction:

Noooo!!! WTF?!?! Why did we waste so much time developing that retard Ramal if Isara was going to bite the dust?!?!  Still, Isara’s death makes sense if you follow the logic of the Imperial soldiers. All female soldiers wearing form-fitting clothing and showing off nice curves have been untouchable, only taking a scratch here or there. As you can see from this image, the sniper clearly wanted revenge on Rosie, but after checking her assets out, he decided to shoot the girl in the frumpy poncho as soon as Isara’s skirt covered up the zettai ryouiki (as she bent down).  I guarantee that if one of those famous Mulberry winds had suddenly blown and led to an Isara pantsu shot, that sniper would have barely missed, and Isara would have gotten off with a scratch on her thigh.

I’m still in shock that Isara died, especially since she has been the most dominant and powerful character in this show.  Only Welkin even comes close.  In that respect, it’s not surprising that a sniper took her out, because Isara is nigh invincible in the Edelweiss.  It was a real tactical error not to take Rosie into the Edelweiss cockpit (it’s roomy enough for a pig) where both of them would have been safe.  Ugh, if only it had been Ramal getting shot, Isara would have gone on a Kill Bill rampage and destroyed the entire Imperial army in two episodes!  I thought Isara was going to get a chance to drive through a freaking wall after seeing the new OP!

Nooo!!! Isara!!! That came as a shock to me. I didn’t think this was the type of show that had the balls to kill anyone (and if anyone died, I assumed it would’ve been Faldio), but man. Isara was one of my favorite characters and she’d been really growing on me. This sucks.

I know what you mean, Isara rocked. The only thing that makes this easier to take is that we will probably see less Ramal now. I also thought only Imperials and maybe some less important members of Squad 7 would die, but Isara is about as important as you can get without being a top main character (e.g. Alicia or Welkin).

Supposedly Isara’s death was in the game, so… kinda sad that she died, but someone on the good team had to bite the dust. Yeah I was thinking that the imp was aiming at Rosie, but we all know the imps are terrible shots.

The problem is, the two mechanics who are SUPPOSED to replace Isara from the game have never showed up (not even a cameo!) in the anime. So it’s likely that Ramal gets the Edelweiss.

Just started watching Valkyria Chronicles and was religiously staying away from spoilers…. Isara’s death caught me like a blow to the head. *feeling dizzy and red-eyed*

If they were really going to off Isara (er, due to her conservative frumpy dressing), I would have liked to see her going down in a blaze of glory with Edelweiss blowing everything up within a 100km radius. I still laugh when I think of how Isara and Ramal stole the enemy tank and she was driving it quite haphazardly… *I miss Isara*

  WHYWHYWHY?!!! T^T When I first saw Isara, I thought she was going to be one of those cutesy little whiny sisters who cling to their “nii-nii” all the time. But apparently, she totally broke my image of her. She’s one of the most powerful little sisters I’ve ever seen in any anime! I absolutely admired Isara, and to top it off with that, she even has a cute little relationship with Ramal which I REALLY support! BUT THEN SHE JUST HAS TO DIE! GAHHHH!!!!!! *pulls out hair* >:K
