Summary:

Cal stay up fixing a broken VHS unit, and when Reiji tells her to just buy a new one, she symbolically states that the unit can totally be refurbished (and sold to some unsuspecting schmuck).  Reiji tries to formulate a plan to get himself and Cal away from Inferno, but when Lizzie arrives at the train station, she’s in the hands of Daisuke’s goons.  Before Reiji can give one of his wonderful arguments, Daisuke explains to Lizzie and Reiji that Claudia is a traitor.  Last year she worked with Scythe Master to set up an ambush at the meeting spot, which allowed Daisuke to steal the cocaine and set up some kind of bogus market to get Inferno’s attention.

Afterwards, however, Claudia turned on Scythe Master; this leads Reiji to believe that Claudia was responsible for Ellen getting shot.  Daisuke believes that Claudia wants to kill Toru and him to control the Godo group, but before he can shoot Lizzie, all his guards get sniped by Ellen.  Reiji chases her, but Ellen informs him that she is and always was Ein.  Behind the scenes, Scythe Master has forwarded the details of Claudia’s betrayal to Raymond, and Toru is convinced to execute the wounded Daisuke so that Inferno will forgive the Godo group.  Lizzie rushes back to Claudia’s mansion to find Claudia gone, and Reiji rushes home just as a mysterious paper bag outside his door blows the crappy apartment to smithereens.

Reaction:

Whoa, confusion!  The only part of this episode that I am 100% sure I understood was the part where Toru shot Daisuke so he could mack on Daisuke’s sister Mio.  I feel bad for Toru, because his bro-con with Daisuke was clearly at war with his desire to bang Mio and the fact that Daisuke is a total idiot.  What happened to all that crap about Claudia having the same jewel-chasing dragon on her back?  Poor Reiji didn’t have much luck with the ladies either, and it was clear that once she got the health care she needed, Ellen made a bee train line back to Scythe Master and his magic hands.  Protip: the oil is not optional (same goes for the mannequins).

I also felt bad for Cal, since she spent all night fixing that VHS recorder only to have Inferno and the Betamax group blow up her project and her one presentable outfit.  Why didn’t Reiji just call warn Cal on his cell phone?  What is this, White Album?  Since Cal wasn’t at home at the time, I’m pretty sure that she was out practicing assassin stuff behind Reiji’s back and is still safe.  Whether that creepy pig puppet made it out is another story.  Anyway, at this point I am not really sure that Scythe Master and Claudia are enemies exactly.  It’s odd for Toru to think Scythe Master will get the Godo group into Inferno, and it was awfully convenient for Claudia to be gone.  And who was that business man hanging out with Scythe Master?

Voted oven mitt. Probably fire retardant.

The goth-loli dress that Reiji bought for Cal was not spared though. :-(

I’m guessing that Inferno has already dealt with Claudia (my memory is hazy about the events from the game at this point of time). Just goes to show how useless a heavily fortified automated security system is compared to a single awesome assassin … :p
