Baka-Raptor makes a good point about the importance of Simultaneity. I noticed that School Days was missing from his list (even though he has watched it), so I wonder if other prerequisites exclude the series from being a harem series. After all, if anyone understands simultaneity, it’s Makoto.
Also, I liken male characters going off with one character at a time for a few episodes to being at a large buffet where the restaurant only supplies very small plates.

The problem with School Days is that Makoto landed a girlfriend (and later on another). Getting a girlfriend is a major harem no-no, unless it happens at the end of the series.
Oh boy! Now that gave my brain a workout, as in, we worked it out. You see, I checked the dictionary because my brain goes poof whenever I see a big word like that! Remember to post dictionary/wikipedia links so people like me could understand! =3
Anyways, I believe School Days is a prime example of harem. Makoto literately does every chick in that show! Then again, the only other harem series I’ve seen is Love Hina, so perhaps I should learn more from Baka-Raptor when it comes to harem =3

I never really got the concept of harem anime anyway… why? Because the guy is always such a loser who doesn’t know what to do with girls anyway so it’s all very painful to watch.
I wonder if sci-fi shows like The Irresponsible Captain Tylor would count…
Baka-Raptor is stupid. Tomoya got Kyou/Ryou and Nagisa to weed Kotomi’s overgrown “garden” all at the same time. If that isn’t simultaneity, I don’t know what is.
I don’t really think School Days qualifies as a harem.
There are 4 girls who actually would like ot be in a relationship with him, but one dosen’t make any effort, and another one really had no chance and was just being exploited by the guy
Someone needs to just make a word up to describe a romantic show where two girls/guys are after one guy/girl.
