Kabitzins June 2009 List progress0906

I didn't plan this, it just happened

Oops, a little late this month, and I know I’ve been slacking on updates.  After watching some of the new series this season, I’ve decided to cut back a bit on the series I’ll be blogging.  I’ll be continuing with Valkyria Chronicles and Phantom -Requiem for the Phantom- of course, but of the new season I think I’m only picking up Canaan and Spice and Wolf II.  I had a lot of issues with Spice and Wolf’s first season, but I love the manga so much that I’ll give the show another chance.  I was planning to blog Bakemonogatari at first, but after watching the dialog-heavy first episode crammed full of Shaft-isms I realized I don’t really like blogging Shaft shows.  I’ll probably watch that show in chunks on the side instead.  I’m still undecided on Umi Monogatari, so I’ll probably wait for a few more episodes to decide.

Top Five This Month:

  1. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Izumi and new material?  Finally!  I’m really falling back in love with this series, and with the arrival of the Homunculi, it’s time for the story to really diverge from the first anime series.  I wonder if the pace will keep up, but either way I’m pretty pumped about this series.
  2. Eden of the East: Damn you and your cliffhangers!  Still, I think this show did a good job of really setting up the eventual movies, and it was a fun ride.
  3. Hatsukoi Limited: The ending wasn’t super, but overall this show was very satisfying.  I think some earlier feelings crept in to just barely edge Phantom this month.
  4. Phantom -Requiem for the Phantom-: This show has been so awesome and there’s not much of that Bee Train flavor that usually starts to grate on me after a while.  I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to Reiji being forced to pick between Cal and Ellen.  Ellen’s got some skills, but Cal’s younger and she has more upside potential.
  5. Valkyria Chronicles: Sometimes all it takes for me are some costume changes.  We are still sloooooowly crawling towards the real story, but at least there was some racist Rosie getting dry-humped repeatedly to distract viewers.

Rising:

  • Shangri-La: The story keeps getting more interesting, even if the characters don’t get any better.  I still don’t like Mikuni, but it was awesome how she asked the guards if they thought Sayoko was hot in order to crush them to death.  Mikuni is never going to get a boyfriend, though.

Falling:

  • Sengoku Basara: I think I’m going to drop this show.  It’s not terrible, but I really only liked it for the over-the-top zaniness.  Once the show stopped introducing new wacky elements, it lost me.  I don’t really care about the Sengoku period at all.

You could probably skip to the last 2 eps of sengoku basara and not miss a bit. The final battles are definitely well worth watching.

I like that FMA’s getting to the new stuff. For a while, I had Endless Eight nightmares. ;P But the new material’s got me hooked again. Any idea how long this show is?

The killer blow really was when I found out Sengoku Basara was getting a second season. I just felt a tidal wave of “F* this!” inside me, especially when no new crazy stuff involving horses appeared episode after episode.

I have no clue how long FMA will be now. They went through most of the first anime’s material so quickly that I can’t tell if it will be 2-cour, 3-cour, or 4-cour again.

Mikuni is never going to get a boyfriend, though.

One that will survive long, at least. :P

Was there a series that fell off your Falling list or is it just an extra bullet point?

Weird, I didn’t see it in FF 3.5, but when I went to the edit screen, there was indeed an extra bullet point. Damn you and your Zaku synesthesia eye!

More like Chrome-enabled Zaku eye. ;-)

and I know I’ve been slacking on updates

You and me both sistah! FMA has been pretty good, and I’ve grown attached to the OP song. Still feel as though something is missing =3. Your Phantom posts make me want to start up that series again. Also, the loli had alot to do with my decision

(btw, is it just me, or are all the blog clocks messed up?) (as in, the time that we post a comment or something)

OH WTF… Updating to WP 2.8.1 reset my time zone to Abidjan’s time zone for some reason  .

Yeah, FMA is moving on to new material and they did reach the part much sooner than I thought. For me though it’s being eclipsed by the manga which is nearing the big finale.

What percentage of the FMA manga has been covered in the second anime so far?

The manga is currently at 97 chapters, and the anime is on chapter 32 this week. I think the pace in the anime might slow down a bit though now we are in previously uncharted territory.

Touche, but there is only so much manliness I can take, especially when I get a weekly dose of Alex Louis Armstrong.
