Yet another reason to hate Konoha
After Yahiko is dead, Hanzo predictably orders his men to kill Nagato. With his Rinnegan activated, Nagato repels all their kunai and then leaps to pull Konan to safety. Unfortunately, Hanzo roots Nagato to the spot with some exploding paper charms, and roasts Nagato’s drumsticks.

In response, Nagato uses his Kuchiyose Gedo Mazo technique to summon the Heretical Demon Statue. The statue looks just like the one that seals the tailed beasts, and it has a serpent tongue that will pull out the target’s soul for an instant kill. Nagato has to get a ton of chakra rods stabbed into his back to control the statue, but it scares off Hanzo, who escapes with an anticlimactic Shunshin no jutsu. With that, Nagato became leader of the gang, and the flashback mercifully comes to an end.
Nooooo! Jiraiya DEFINITELY wanted you to kill Nagato!
Unfortunately, Naruto is dumb, and decides his answer is to not kill Nagato even though he still hates Nagato and refuses to forgive the crippled bastard. So… what happens now? Will Nagato at least give the tailed beasts back? Will he testify against Danzo? Will he go on a date with Konan? I’m hoping that Nagato will attack Naruto and force Naruto to kill him, but that would mess up the storyline a bit.
I don’t understand what happened with Danzo in the battle (I guess he just ran away?) or why Yahiko was so eager to impale himself. In many ways Yahiko shares the blame, because if he had just given Nagato a few seconds to activate the Rinnegan, they could easily have beaten up on Hanzo. I guess Yahiko didn’t have a lot of confidence in Nagato’s abilities, even though he believed Nagato was the messiah.

The story makes no sense, but at least we can conclude for sure that Yahiko’s death was Nagato’s own fault.
yeah I’m hoping Nagato will force Naruto to kill him. Since Nagato has shown himself to be an attention-craving bastard I don’t think he’ll just stand down and let Naruto ignore him.
