Summary:
Left-handed reporter Irene Ellet arrives at Amatriain Base to get the scoop on Squad 7 and Welkin for her Radio GBS show. Alicia is terrified that Welkin’s animal otaku tendencies will embarrass the whole Militia, and so she interferes with all of Irene’s attempts to interview Welkin alone. The other members of Squad 7 provide little useful information as Largo talks about vegetables, Rosie does some singing, Edy Nelson tries to somehow get her picture on a radio show, Hans offers a two-oink response for Marina Wulfstan, and Jann Walker talks about how much he loves Largo’s muscles.
Alicia foils all of Irene’s numerous attempts to get time with Welkin until Irene cleverly ambushes Welkin in the men’s bathroom. Although Irene threatens to strip and scream if Welkin won’t agree to an interview, Welkin offers to do the interview in return for a gigantic BBQ for his (and Faldio’s) squad. When On the Gallian Front finally airs, Alicia is surprised to hear Irene praising Welkin and Squad 7, although Irene mentions she will need follow-up interviews to really understand Welkin.
Reaction:
Even without battles, VC manages to get important stuff wrong. How could an animal otaku like Welkin possibly have a small fish tank with no filter on his desk? There is no way this would ever happen! In spite of that, I liked this episode since we finally got to meet a few other members of Squad 7. Jann going yandere was awesome, but he topped it by tricking three burly men into glomping him. I also liked quiet Marina wondering where Hans was during the BBQ (although she kept eating). I figure most of the jokes in this episode will become running gags, like Eleanor’s long-winded speeches.
As for Irene, I didn’t see any reason to think she was an awesome reporter. Her final report was a total fluff piece with no content at all. I wonder when we will finally get a serious battle, but there are still a lot of Squad 7 members we haven’t met. It could be a while before Squad 7 encounters Maximilian, considering we have yet to see Welkin make any moves on Alicia. And why does Marina have to take care of the porcavian that Alicia wanted so badly?

And the faces Alicia made, by Haruhi, the faces. The girl sure knows how to overreact.
I think we’re still more than a few hands short with regards to Squad 7, as apparently Faldio’s Squad 1 is composed of soldiers that were members of Squad 7 in the game.
As I’m not a game player, I’m still not digging the rest of Squad 7 though. Needs more screentime, though those short segments with Marina and Hans definitely made me chuckle a bit (especially the part where Marina was thinking about Hans… while eating pork barbeque).
I like Alicia’s faces, but I don’t feel like I can totally get into it until I see her actually do something worthwhile on the battlefield. Otherwise, I kinda lump her in with the other bumpkins like Susie.
Well, at least she gets better coverage than the rest of Squad 7′s ladies. Stoic Marina aside, there’s the loli Aisha (she’s 12!) and Edy (who seems to be a fan favorite of the game players).
The ostensibly straight reporter had the voice of Shizuru. Nightmares are sure to follow…
so someone other than myself are aware of these things!
(btw, are you left handed, or you just found something funny about her hand usage?)
*aheeeemmm* Did you not see your “threaten to strip” pic? She can obviously report on MANY THINGS, like a BAOUS!! (but yea, her report was lame =/ needs moar catfights)
and very nice captions =D I was starting to worry that all ur captions were becoming dirty-old-man jokes. Well, those jokes are fine, but sometimes you need variety =3
I’m not
a freakleft-handed; I just noticed it was odd when Irene was signing her name. Even though Irene’s report was super crappy, I wouldn’t mind seeing her in another episode.D= … *cries himself to sleep*
Irene could have written that report without interviewing anyone, and Alicia truly is “much ado over nothing” in this episode lol.
As for why Alicia handed Hans over to Marina, my theory is that because Hans pooped on Alicia while she was holding him.
Seriously, it’s like she could have gotten a better report from Wikipedia. Your theory about Hans’ poop is intriguing…
Yeah that “report” was pretty vapid. She could’ve put that report together without the interviews. But at least we got some awesome Alicia faces from it. Oh, and zettai ryouiki uniforms were the greatest idea ever. I think that deserves some investigative reporting from Ellet.
Incidentally, judging by what I’ve read from the game players in the Animesuki Valkyria subforum, the thigh-highs are apparently limited to only Alicia herself; the rest of the grisl wore pants like the one Marina was wearing in this episode.
