Summary:

After seeing a crater during the plane ride, Akira learns from Saki that Japan has been hit by 11 missile strikes. The first strike on 11/22/2010 was named “Careless Monday” and although none of the previous strikes resulted in any casualties, one strike caused a plane crash and several fatalities. While Saki’s concerned friend Oosugi Satoshi chats on the phone with her, Akira finds that he has over 83.5 million USD available (which he has a duty to spend) and that he is in the service zone of the Selecao system. At the same time, however, a down-on-his-luck detective, Kondou Yuusei, is surprised to see that #9 is alive and using phone funds to buy junk like plum bubblegum and bribes to get out of the crowded airport.

Akira can’t ditch Saki because he doesn’t remember anything other than movie trivia. According to his passport, his home is in Toyosu, near the crater. They chat about how Saki is an orphan who got a lot of help from her older sister. This reminds Akira of his mother and someone giving him a 500 yen coin when he was 5. While Akira and Saki are chatting and taking romantic shots with their own Ground Zero in the background, Yuusei is using his own Noblisse Oblige phone to monitor Akira’s funds. Yuusei’s first order of business in trying to usurp #9 is to wipe out his own 200,000 USD debt by having Juiz order him some snipers to kill the lender and debt collector.

Reaction:

Looks like someone’s got a case of the Mondays! I’m confused about Saki’s lie. It sounded like Saki told her sister that she was going to stay at Katsuhara “Micchon” Mikuru’s place, and yet wasn’t the older sister with Micchon in the car? Maybe Saki’s sister is glad that Saki finally has a man to leech off of. Saki probably doesn’t know she has a real catch, because in spite of the celebrity incident, Akira still kept Saki’s change from the coffee purchase (even though he is a millionaire). Still, asking for a copy of the love-photo was an awesome way to score Akira’s digits and email address.

I am sad I can’t read Japanese, otherwise I could see what the going rate for an over-the-phone course in the Harima Brain Research Institute’s brainwashing program is. There is some real mystery about why Akira would brainwash himself, but perhaps this was the only way out of a dead end. It was odd seeing Akira run into Yuusei, but Yuusei seemed content to let Akira (whom Yuusei referred to as “Selecao”) go and continue to spend the phone funds. I guess duty really does come first!

No, the woman in the car is another member of the “Eden of the East” club at Saki’s University. This woman is nicknamed Onee (sister), but she’s not Saki’s sister.

More info about the characters here.

…DEATH NOTE?!?! O_O

Saki was pretty kawaii-desu~ this episode. I especially liked the part where shes like “I have nothing to do… *squirm* *fidget* sooooo, wanna get come coffee… and go over my house… and… *BLUSH* play house? ” To quote what anime fan said,

his penis has that kind of effect on people

The boat scene was also pretty cute and heart warming. I hope there are more of these scenes to come

Awesome! Thanks for the translation. I can’t believe you can get the memory wipe for under $10… The movie theatre was surprisingly cheap, too. I’m kinda saddened Akira only spent $5/day per person for the food deliveries (maybe he got some kind of bulk discount).
