Summary:

Rina is so angry that Touya is seeing Yayoi, and tells Touya that Yayoi is only capable of loving Yuki. Obviously, Touya is not deterred by the possibility of a threesome, and that night he takes Yayoi back to his place and sleeps with her. Rina tries to run out her frustration, and eventually ends up narrating Yuki’s letter to Touya. The letter says that Yuki wants to change from helpless Yuki to confident Yuki. Yuki hopes that she can be strong and independent while rehearsing, so that when Touya finally sees her at her debut concert, he can marvel at how much she’s changed. Rina then proceeds to fire Touya for being the worst boyfriend ever, and Touya runs out in tears.

Touya leaves Yuki a message promising to be at her concert, and Yuki can barely stop herself from calling Touya back (to ask why the hell Rina delivered the letter). Unfortunately, Touya is unable to buy a ticket and resigns himself to breaking his promise. Because everyone loves Yuki so much, however, Touya gets several tickets when Mana asks her mom (President Kanzaki!) for a ticket, Misaki gets a date with Akira and doesn’t need a ticket, and Haruka somehow gets a ticket (no clue how). Heck, Mana even gets Touya a birthday present to give Yuki. All this is lost on Touya as he braves a beatdown from Frankie to go make out with Yayoi again, but at least Touya makes it to the concert on time.

Reaction:

Wow, so much happened this episode! First off, I can’t believe Tamaru tried to knife Misaki with a prop-knife from the play! Akira’s jealousy was hilarious, because Touya didn’t do crap. Misaki is just a big dork who carries poetry books around in her coat all the time, so really she saved herself. This is the perfect opportunity to throw Tamaru in jail for assault, and Akira should have at least kicked Tamaru in the balls or something. Akira is so obsessed with Touya that he even ripped up the tickets instead of scalping the tickets to buy Misaki a nice present. It’s time we all realized that Akira is just a big, stupid pussy.

Speaking of which, Touya makes me smile every single episode with his incredible stupidity and sense of entitlement. You know he was thinking about how he could scalp the other tickets he got and pay his rent; and then he wasn’t even going to pay Mana back for Yuki’s present! I figured Touya must at least be some kinda pro in bed, but after watching the always-popular mammogram-squash and Touya’s awkward takedown (lower your center of gravity, n00b!), I have concluded he has no clue what he is doing. Fittingly, Touya even cheats on the racetrack, cutting across the grass in a futile attempt to catch Rina! My big questions this episode concern President Kanzaki’s phone conversation (with Eiji?) and the policeman’s turning a blind eye to Mana getting dragged into a corner and molested by Touya.

Akira and his touya complex. XD

So it does look like it was just makeout sessions in the car and little else if Touya is that clueless.

I think that Kanzaki was talking to her sales representative. Obviously the Arena isn’t sold out for her Sakura-dan, so she’s giving him an earful to friggen get the tickets out. Even if she’ll lose the competition with Eiji, she wants to spare her girls the embarrassment to play in front of an empty house.

the always-popular mammogram-squash and Touya’s awkward takedown

Your blow-by-blow analysis with pictures just made my day. Hilarious.

This episode was all kinds of awesome. The revelation that President Kanzaki was Mana’s mom was surprising, but it fit perfectly and provided an interesting perspective on Mana’s idol comments from earlier episodes. The only thing I can’t figure out is why she hasn’t harvested Touya’s kidneys yet.

And the scene with Tamaru was brilliant. I love it how he ran off after stabbing Misaki, his impotent rage perfectly captured by the images of the broken prop knife. What made it even better though was that the knife can also be read as an metaphor for the broken and useless Akira, who tried to look and act like a boyfriend, but then totally stood there and let the psycho stab his girlfriend. So much symbolism in one crappy knife. I laughed so hard when Akira started breaking down after realizing that Misaki, apart from being a dork, was only carrying the Browning book around because Touya had left traces of his DNA on it (speaking of DNA, I have to wonder if Misaki added any “special ingredients” to the cheesecake to make it sour, or if it was just flavored by Touya’s bitter tears).

I also liked how Touya lost two jobs and received one beating, and all of that was neatly offset by the three concert tickets he received from his non-girlfriends. Well, that and Yayoi. I’m with Michael, your analysis of the Touya/Yayoi apartment scene was hilarious and right on the money… a player he is not. I just don’t understand why Yayoi has to go through all that clumsy pawing to get goddess status when everyone else got it for doing nothing. It just isn’t fair, even though it is delicious.

One of my other favorite parts of the episode was Haruka’s voice over the exterior shots of the concert venue, telling Touya that if he didn’t go she was going to drown him in the bay. Hopefully her latent violence will be given a chance to manifest itself in season two….

And I hope that the next episode is as good as this one, and that they don’t leave us with too much of a cliffhanger. Waiting for season two is going to be rough.

I think Touya was until that night a virgin, considering Yuki’s been his only g/f so far I believe.

Either way, it probably didn’t last too long :)
