Maria Holic 10

Summary:

It’s time for summer uniforms, but while Mariya and Matsurika tie for top scores on exams, Nanami and Kanako are forced to zerg supplementary exams until they pass. It turns out that Mariya had a sudden urge to do roommate stuff during study week, and so Kanako barely prepared. Nanami just happens to completely suck at math and science. On the day of the supplementary exam, Kanako winds up boycotting the exam in a snobbish rage because Matsurika used half-assed sleep hypnosis on Kanako, but eventually Kanako is able to pass with extremely low scores.

We then get a short flashback to some guy giving Dorm Leader a love letter that gets taken away by Yonakuni. Back in the present, careless Nanami is getting stalked by some older, equally careless lolicon code-named Mr. Berlin. Sachi tries to help Nanami let the guy down easy, but Mr. Berlin is able to counter all of their attempts. Finally, “Helpful Matsurika” is brought in to use a big REJECTED stamp on Mr. Berlin’s resume, and thus the crisis is averted… until he turns his eye to young Sachi.

Reaction:

This was a pretty good episode, and one that laid off the nosebleed jokes. Matsurika actually got a decent amount of screen time for once, and she even giggled when Kanako demanded respect as a senpai. I agreed with Matsurika’s blunt rejection, because I am constantly seeing and hearing about poor ronery otaku who will cling to any shred of hope to force their selfish love on a poor young lady.

Kanako was excellent again, especially in her perverse nature. It tickles me that Kanako can score nearly perfectly on civics tests simply by writing the opposite of what she really thinks. I also liked when she was raging against Mr. Berlin for poaching her prey, and yet at the same time she was praising his taste and agreeing with his Lolicon Revolution. There were a lot of great lines this episode, especially when Kanako could not understand Sachi’s simple, intuitive notes and simply acknowledged that “the sea known as stupidity is bottomless.” Finally, I am intrigued at how Nanami does not consider Kanako to be a friend.

Finally, a good joke: Matsurika’s at a rebellious age.

the sea known as stupidity is bottomless.

Best line in the episode. The second best was when Mariya was in shock at how she scored 98 on Civics, and I loved Matsurika’s explanation.

I think it is well and good that Kanako can do so well in civics, after all first step to becoming a political leader is learning how to lie and lie well. Soon Resident Kanako will found her Yuri Republic and what a solid foundation it will have, already Kanako is constructing her chemical deterrent….

I liked the first half with Kanako and the exams, but the second half with the stalker was kind of devoid of good jokes.

the sea known as stupidity is bottomless.

Amen to that.

forced to zerg supplementary exams

Still waiting for StarCraft2…

Finally, I am intrigued at how Nanami does not consider Kanako to be a friend.

Well, she’s already stated on numerous occasions that she’s dating Kanako.

And Berlin = Stripey!?

We’ll pretend it’s Dark Stripey.

Matsurika looks sweet in that middle picture for some reason (I thought that when I watched the episode).

I need more rebellious Matsurika and helpful Matsurika (or any Matsurika) lol.

Tower of Druaga would be so much better if Coopa was more like Matsurika (and Melt more like Mariya).
