Summary:
Cilgamesh states that he will be God, once he is free of wussy emotions. Outside, Jil aggroes all of Cilgamesh’s CG guards (Demoniacs?!) as Melt goes for Coopa, Uragon sides with Henaro, and Gremica flakes out as well. Henaro demonstrates her lack of tactical skills as she leaves Tear of Ice to get owned by Fatina (a fire mage) and Sword of Blood to get owned (again) by Neeba. As for people with planning skills, Ethana lures GreenHair’s troops to the gate and camps out. The stalling is very effective, until a boulder knocks Ethana right in front of the enemy. Fortunately, Kelb finally shows up and he has colorful reinforcements from loyal members of the Special Guard.
Coopa is able to cleverly free herself, and she has a heartwarming reunion with Melt… until he goes tsundere again. With the trash mobs cleared, an exhausted Fatina admits to Jil that Neeba totally broke her and that Jil was just the rebound guy. Jil never listened to anything Fatina said anyway, and is basically just like, “That’s great Fatina, can we go save Kaaya now?” Finally, Neeba uses his last arrow, and is forced into melee combat with Cilgamesh, while Kaaya hangs around overhead.
Reaction:
Utu you sly dog! Normally Utu tosses the unconscious party member over his shoulder, but I noticed that he gave Fatina a little extra loving. Don’t worry about Fatina, Jil; Utu won’t let her get outta hand. Another fun tidbit that Omni pointed out is that Cilgamesh shares the same VA (and gold armor now) as Gilgamesh… from F/SN! There was even some Cilgamesh fanservice this episode, as Kaaya got stuck looking at the family jewels. Nothing like getting a full frontal of your great-grandfather! Preview makes it seem like Henaro will finally get a bath scene next episode.
There was a lot about fate again, and I wonder if killing Cilgamesh is really the best solution. With Jil’s idealism, I can’t help but wonder if love will save the day. Jil’s tanking was top-notch again, but healers get no love in this series. Kaaya is the only one stuck in torn clothing, and Ahra got zero medical care because she was the only healer that was LFG when Ethana was recruiting. Even worse, Ahra didn’t get to see the Kelb x Ethana love scene because everyone else got in the way. You’d think that if healers were that rare, they’d get a little protection, but no one stepped up when Ahra was getting arrow’d (sorta like Acra). Season 2 Jil would never have let something like this happen, and he probably would have deflected the boulder that hit Ethana, too!
