The insanity is overwhelming everyone outside, but Black Star gets up and expels a small sphere of retard-wavelength. This clears everyone’s head momentarily, and Shibusen’s forces try to harden their minds against Arachne’s insanity. Mercifully, Black Star sits down quietly as he and Kid (who is still stuck in Noah’s book) leave the rest up to Maka and Soul. Maka’s incredible Soul Perception abilities reveal how Arachne is transmitting the insanity.

Soul wonders why he isn’t affected by the insanity in spite of his proximity to Arachne, and Little Demon urges Soul to start jamming on the mind-piano. However, Soul realizes that simply receiving Maka’s anti-demon wavelength is enough to dispel the effects of Arachne’s insanity. Instead of relying on the Little Demon to up the volume of his mind-piano, Soul decides to hijack Arachne’s web to transmit the Maka’s anti-demon wavelength.

Impressively, Maka is able to focus harder on her Soul Perception while fighting Arachne and Soul is able to talk to Little Demon, play piano, and stay in scythe form. Little Demon asks Soul if he can even transmit sound over strings since the piano is a percussion instrument. Fortunately, Soul’s older brother Wes plays a stringed instrument.

In a completely nonsensical twist, Soul uses the fact that Wes rocked the violin to play Wes’ favorite song, The Meditation of Souls. Technically, I’d say that the piano is even closer to a large web-instrument than the violin, especially since the percussion of the piano is actually hammers hitting strings. That’s ok though, cause battles are always cooler with BGM.

Although Maka’s straight-up combat skills are inferior to Kid and Black Star’s, her amazing mental abilities save the day. She is able to coordinate with Soul’s song and transmit the analog signal over long distances. I guess Arachne’s web shields against interference even better than Monster Cables. Meanwhile, Arachne is pissed that Maka hacked into her network.

Soul is able to sense everyone and reliably transmit the song to everyone. And by everyone, I mean Arachne as well. In a brilliant twist, Arachne realizes too late that she is also connected to the web. By the time Arachne tries to sever the connection, Soul has launched a sperm attack right at her face.

Medusa is still face-planted on the ground, but that doesn’t stop her from talking more smack. Because Arachne converted her whole body to Insanity, an attack that reverses Insanity is especially effective against her new body. As Arachne drops to the ground awash in sperm-flames, Maka begins Soul Resonance and prepares an even more powerful Demon Hunter.

Just like Ichigo, Maka’s powerful attack/stance comes complete with a nice dark wardrobe change. So handy! This was an exciting chapter, and I love when shounen series use real teamwork (instead of simply divide and conquer one-on-ones). Maka and Soul showed some amazing multi-tasking, in spite of Black Star hating on their song. I figure Maka will probably be successful against Arachne, since it seems that Noah has already stepped up as a greater threat.
