Double Dragon
Luxus takes a chapter to beat the crap out of Natsu, and even tries to kill him with a Raging Bolt attack. He’s psycho-thrilled that he has killed Natsu, but it turns out Natsu was plucked out of danger by Gazille. Normally the two Dragon Slayers mages wouldn’t fight together, but it’s not gay if you don’t make eye contact.
What are you, tsundere for the guild?
The duo starts attacking relentlessly, and by combining their powers, they are able to defeat Luxus’ ugly cheetah-print shirt. Underneath, however, the skin on Luxus’ chiseled, beefy torso is just as scaly as Natsu’s.
OMG was your nanny a dragon?!
Luxus had been keeping his dragon skillz a secret from his grandpa, but at some point he mastered a second style of magic. Because of this, none of Gazille and Natsu’s combined attacks did much to him. A quick Thunder Dragon Roar takes both of the junior varsity dragon slayer mages out, but suddenly Levi bursts in to tell Luxus that Makarov is deathly ill. Luxus’ reaction, however, is not what Levi expected…
But he left the guild to Happy in his will!
Luxus decides to finish things off with his own version of Makarov’s Fairy Law attack, even though none of his teammates are in the area and all the strong fighters in the region have been knocked out already. He successfully pulls off the spell, but forgot to add extra hate.
OMG did Levi have a dragon as a nanny, too?!?!?!
Predictably, not a single person in town got hurt by Luxus’ waste of a spell because he doesn’t really consider any of those people an enemy in his heart. Luxus can’t believe he couldn’t even take out Levi, but I guess it’s hard to hate someone you basically ignore all the time.
The truth is, Luxus doesn't even know her name
Everyone is like, “Well, that was fun. Let’s go see Makarov,” but Luxus still wants to angst and show off his big muscles. Luxus just can’t get over the whole grandson thing, and everyone harping about Makarov isn’t making anything better.
THIS IS SPARTA!
So of course Natsu jumps up to go punch Luxus in the face. Next chapter should be sappy. I can’t say these last three chapters were very strong, and this whole Luxus fiasco has been incredibly predictable. The only real twist was Luxus turning out to know Dragon Slayer magic, but that was totally out of left field. I can only hope the next arc is better, but I think this coup d’etat should be drawing to a close soon.

I spent most of these chapters being glad that the much hyped Luxus actually was -shock horror- genuinely hard as nails (kind of makes up for the Mistgun fail). But on the whole, I agree, this arc has been a let down. Not sure if I can be bothered to keep reading. But then, it’s hardly the first time I’ve said something like that about a fighting manga.
I think a lot of the steam was taken out by the fact that everyone knows that Luxus will not end up being evil. Considering how everyone even remotely good falls to the nakama-logic-attack, I don’t see how Luxus will be able to resist. Maybe Luxus’ dad will be better.
BTW, where the heck did Mistgun go to cry?
