Whoa, anime overload this month. I recall the winter seasons usually sucking, but this month felt like a cornucopia of great episodes. I caught up on a ton of anime, and several series are really hitting their stride as we get to the final month and a half of the season. The only show I’m still backlogged on is Minami-ke. I think this has been the best and most well-rounded February lineups since I started doing these lists.
Top Five This Month:
- Gundam 00 Second Season: The less Marina I see, the better. I really enjoyed the Orbital Elevator battle and its aftermath (especially the return of Soma yelling at that pansy Allelujah). However, absolutely nothing can trump that fact that every time Lyle thought he was getting hot loving from Anew, he was really getting hot loving from Revive or Ribbons. I can’t wait for more naked GNjutsu, too!
- ToraDora: Whoa Minori emo, but the longer show length makes the emo less crippling than that of Kannagi. Still glad to see the show going back to the funny stuff, though.
- The Tower of Druaga: the Sword of Uruk: Pretty much more of the same stuff that made season 1 so enjoyable. ToD continues to give that perfect mix of seriousness and silliness, and part of me wonders what other articles of Kaaya’s clothing Jil is wearing.
- White Album: Oh delicious trashy soap opera show, how I love you. You’re my everyday. But just because I love you doesn’t mean I won’t cheat on you with seinen shows that force themselves on me.
- Maria†Holic: Kanako is really growing on me, and the Shizu episode was sweet. I could go for more Mariya screen time, but I like that this show does not rely on the same jokes over and over.
Rising:
- Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo: The phallic jokes are getting a little old, but I sense some plot incoming! I still wouldn’t call this show good, but it’s starting to exceed my low expectations.
- Michiko to Hatchin: The trippy episodes didn’t wow me that much, but we’re back on the standard Hiroshi-hunting stuff now. Michiko and Hatchin continue to have a great dynamic, although this month has been a little bit more slow-burn than I expected.
- Shikabane Hime: Kuro: I’m kinda surprised that Saki gets the second most screen time out of all the SH. I like the mystery of this season, and we finally found out what the deal was with Ouri (sorta).
Falling:
- Casshern Sins: If Casshern were to take out Ringo, would that make up for killing Luna? At this point, I think it would.
- Xam’d: Lost Memories: I enjoyed this show as a whole, but I have to be honest and say that I didn’t get it. I felt like either the underlying theme was too subtle or there wasn’t enough pre-planning to strengthen the story along the way, and I never really understood anyone’s motivation. All I know is, if you eat Haru you can stop the Ruin and live forever. Kill Haru! Devour Haru!

It doesn’t? 80% of the jokes are lesbian fantasies followed by nosebleeds.
I dunno, all those bras looked different to me.
Let’s not forget that Kanako can have different forms of ‘nosebleeds’.
-spurting like a geyser
-party streamers
-reverse nosebleed
-spraying back and forth like a hose
-dripping from one nostril
-spraying like a fire hydrant
(and many more, including the many sensual styles of bras and underwear)
The anime you didn’t put that’s in my Top 5 would be Clannad ~After Story. I’m a sucker for KyoAni, Key, Lia, angst, and Dango.
om nom nom, delicious Haru :3
I’m not sure I’d put Gundam 00 at the top of my list. Even though it is hilarious to laugh at, I’m not ready to give it a #1 spot (if I were to make such a list).
Toradora would definitely be my #1, it’s amazing. It’s one of the few shows I really look forward to every week.
White Album is just so much fun to watch. It really is like watching a giant trainwreck, I just can’t look away.
I like that even if someone could say “Maria Holic is bad” I could just say “Who cares, it has lesbian fantasies”
, but I don’t have to.
I can’t get them images out of my head lol
Naked GNjutsu… I’d rather not see too much of that. I don’t want to see Marina either but unfortunately Miss Do-Nothing will probably have plenty of screen time in the remaining episodes. And Anew has her own personality, although we can’t be sure that Revive or Ribbons didn’t cut in some time in the past to enjoy the fun
.
As for ToraDora!, I’m glad that the comedy made a comeback too.
