Summary:

Jil’s party gets a break from the stairs when a gust of wind suddenly sucks them all into a barren wasteland. They witness a red dragon getting its flesh stripped off by an odd army of shadow-moonkin. During the retreat, Jil realizes that the moonkin cannot enter into the shadows. From there, the battle becomes eerily similar to the shadow tag that Gilgamesh played as a young boy. The tall spires provide shelter to Gremica’s, Jil’s, and Uragon’s groups, but with the sun rising higher in the sky, shelter is becoming scarce. Outside, Gilgamesh stabs some poor lobbyist and then tries to off himself (before Cilgamesh stops him).

Acra draws a rune for teenage-Kai, and suddenly everyone is able to see where Neeba stepped and shot arrows. This allows Gremica’s team to sneak to the exit without problem. However, Jil has managed to aggro the entire area by having Utu slice down a spire (I guess the axe was a good purchase after all) and Henaro tie the spire so it levitates as a parasol. The fallen spire is not long enough to reach all the way to the door, but Melt realizes that dust can be used to blot the sun out. With this simple AOE technique, everyone important is able to make it out of the first stage.

Reaction:

I noticed in this episode that Utu, Jil, and Henaro have very portable weapons, but the mages are all forced to carry around clunky staffs. However, in the end it was the mages that carried the day; even Melt was helpful in figuring out how to defeat the moonkin. They are lucky that it is easy to stir up a lot of dust, seeing as how Jil managed to train the entire zone to the exit. Now anyone who zones in from the other side will be screwed. Thanks a lot, jerk.

Anyway, it seems like this Mythical Tower is actually in Gilgamesh’s mind or something, and they are trying to cure his mental illness and immortality before he becomes the new Druaga. Gilgamesh seems to know that Kai can save him, since he called out for her. I found it funny that Gremica would put a ball and chain on Kai instead of just chaining Kai to a member of her party. Now Kai is weighed down by the ball, which means that someone has to carry Kai in retreats the way Coopa and Utu always get stuck carrying people. BTW, who were those girls in the water who complained about not going with Jil?

The girls were the random ones they met in the 1st season whom are also climbers. Nowadays they just haunt around the restaurant that the ex-captain runs.

Yeah, they’re the sisters who hangs around/working at the restaurant if I’m not mistaken as well.

Every time Jil takes out his sword, my first reaction is “It’s Ivy!”. I wonder if that’s where they got the idea from.

I thought 2 of the girls might be the ones from Kelb’s tavern (Uru and Oro) at first, but it seems like there were quite a few of them. Interesting that they would bring back random climbers from season 1.

It’s ironic that the mages don’t have collapsible weapons. You’d think they could pull the staffs out of their hats or something.

I like how Melt helps them out behind the scenes. He should just be more honest. :P

One can argue that Uragon and the Golden Knights would have trapped Jil down even without Melt’s help. So if you forgive his little blowup after the Roper Incident, he is well on his way to redemption.

Maybe he is just better off being poor and unable to implement his really hare-brained schemes.

Looking kind of bloodthirsty there, Gilgamesh.
