Summary:
Michiko gets a bad fever and it’s up to Hatchin to take care of her. Since they don’t have IDs, Hatchin can only take Michiko to a joke of a doctor named Deus. Deus and his young assistant Gerson pretend to cure Michiko by pulling a large fish out of her belly, but Hatchin cannot pay all the extra fees that got tacked on at the last second. Hatchin tries to make money by helping Mauro and his dog Bud guard the farm, but the bandits get away and Hatchin gets paid in vegetables instead of money.
Things get worse as Deus pulls out the contract that Hatchin signed (except it is an extremely badly forged version) that says Hatchin agreed to pay 100% interest every day the payment is late. Eventually, Hatchin has no choice but to turn to the weird lady next door for help. It’s from the neighbor that Hatchin learns that Deus is a fraud that uses “psychic surgery” to pay off his gambling debt. Incredibly pissed, Hatchin grabs a pipe to beat the crap out of Deus only to find that Michiko has already beaten her to the punch. Michiko is convinced that Deus put a curse on her, but fortunately the neighbor agrees to take Michiko to a real doctor.
Reaction:
What a weird episode! From the wacko hippy doctor to Michiko’s incredibly strange visions, this episode didn’t make a lot of sense. I guess this episode was meant to show how Hatchin is like a mother to Michiko, even though others see the pair and assume that Michiko is the mother. I think the episode also showed that Hatchin is still a bit gullible and Michiko is still a bit in need of tons of copulation with Hiroshi.
I definitely felt bad for Hatchin this time, as she got shot at, beaned in the head with a veggie, and cheated by just about everyone. Still, it was awesome seeing Hatchin yelling at Michiko and tossing out all the cigarettes. Even better was psycho-crazy, pipe-wielding Hatchin, but that was just a tease. I’m assuming that Hiroshi was not even in the newspaper that Michiko saw, and that Michiko was simply hallucinating and seing Hiroshi everywhere. That or Hiroshi really was carrying a sack of tomatoes and from this Michiko imagined him humping that soap opera doctor throughout the city.

It wasn’t like she was even going to do anything productive with it once she had it. I laughed because I totally couldn’t see her actually hitting people with it.
And I also agree with you that Michiko’s vision of Hiroshi in the newspaper was probably just that. A vision.
I dunno, she beat the door down pretty hard, and she did beat up that kid on the boat that time. I bet Hatchin was one shoe robbery away from murdering Deus.
