That’s Where You’re Hiding

I still use Zoom Player to watch and cap anime, so I thought I’d post up this note in case anyone else had this problem. I downloaded the latest version of ZP, i.e. version 6.00, but no matter what I did the files automatically played in v5.50 Beta 1. I uninstalled ZP as an admin, looked through the registry, but I could never find where the heck ZP v5.50 Beta 1 was hiding. The worst part was that after I uninstalled ZP and deleted its folder, the program was still lurking somewhere (and videos still opened in ZP 5.50 Beta 1 by default). Finally, after reading this review I decided to try out Revo Uninstaller. The “Hunting Mode” puts a crosshair on any program you open, so when I opened up a random .mkv file and clicked the crosshair, I discovered that ZP 5.50 Beta 1 was hiding in the CCCP folder! WTF?!?! I uninstalled CCCP, reinstalled ZP 6.00 and now everything works correctly.

What’s the big surprise? ZP is bundled and preconfigured with CCCP.

And you could have easily found that out by checking what normal filename extensions are linked to, in the explorer. You don’t need obscure tools for that :)

The thing is, I was default opening with Program Files/Zoom Player/zoomplayer.exe and yet it was still automatically going to the CCCP zoom player. This doesn’t really make any sense and must have been because both exe’s had the same name.

I didn’t need the tool to actually do the uninstall, I just didn’t realize that there would be two versions of the same program, with one hidden in a codec pack folder (and one which I have not used in a while). Also, I’m not sure it is such a great idea for CCCP to be bundling betas.

:? Haven’t ever used ZoomPlayer or CCCP (living in Russia-ex-CCCP for 11 years doesn’t count, right? lol). Maybe I need to try it too. Now I feel like spamming… Ok, I have nothing to say anymore.
