Do blogs ever come back from hiatus?

Loading ...As I was finishing up Shikabane Hime, I started thinking about all those infamous hiatus posts that you tend to see as a blog is dying. I categorize these posts as either:
- Pre-Planned: At best there is a 30% chance of return. Writer knows that he/she will be busy/away/saving the world for the next few weeks/months.
- Unplanned: At best there is a 1% chance of return by conservative estimate. 3 months go by and then there is an “I’m not dead, I’m on hiatus” post, followed by 2 posts over the next 5 months.
It’s like being trapped in a bad relationship! I want to believe, but I’ve seen so many “_____ is back!” posts followed by said blogger not really being back. Usually the blogger posts a few meta posts and little if any anime content and then the blog sinks back into “hiatus” again. Inevitably, it ends up being a big commotion over nothing. I think when bloggers say their blog is on hiatus, they really mean their blog is on deathwatch.
Off the top of my head, the only two outliers I can think of are lolikitsune coming back from emo-quitting to troll some more and Jeff leaving episodic summaries and returning to write editorial posts for a time. Perhaps by examining those who have beaten the hiatus disease, we can devise a cure. Someone cheer me up and give me more examples of blogs that have come back from the dead!

Since it’s possibly to schedule/postdate entries in Wordpress, maybe we’ll see some “If You Are Reading This I Am Dead-Dead” dead-man’s-switch entries.
I come back from hiatus all the time! Or maybe I’m always on hiatus or never on hiatus or something
After a seven month hiatus, I am indeed back.
Do I count? I was only away for a month and five days (more of a hiccup than a hiatus?), but, as my hiatus post can attest it wasn’t as though I knew I’d be away for a defined amount of time.
This is why I don’t write blog status posts anymore, I just declare myself in hiatus silently, then all of a sudden come up with a post when I feel it.
The thing about blog hiatuses is that most are really caused by real life catching up on them. One needs to realize that, well, some of these bloggers started either in their early or late teens, with many still schooling (meaning free time). Once someone gets out of university and starts working, the opportunities for free time out of work for hobbies becomes exponentially less.
Do Momotato’s annual posts qualify as hiatus or regular posting? ;P
Have not been in the business long enough to recognize the patterns, but I guess I know one or two.
The problem is, I don’t even know if that person in question is alive, since he just vanished without a trace, with his last post indicating everything was fine…
I was thinking of Jeff too. I guess most people who disappear never do come back. Well Garten came back for designchronicle after he came back from Japan, but that was planned, and now he’s sort of gone again.
I gotta go with bluemist on this one. I don’t post any meta on my site what-so-ever. If I’m gone for a month, I’m gone for a month. No need to write a post explaining my absence and clogging up AnimeNano with more meta-nonsense. Not like I have any followers anyway!
OK, some meta posts are good, but the majority just push back good content in AnimeNano. It’s just all those hiatus entries aren’t needed. If I haven’t seen you post in a month, I can take a stab at it and guess you’re busy with other stuff!

While leveling up from being school girls/guys to salary men/OLs inevitably cuts down time for leisure, for anime/manga and/or blogging or what, whether they continue blogging despite these odds still greatly depend on the PASSION they have. I mean, I actually started blogging months after I started working. It’s all a matter of choice, methinks.
Also, it might not seem like it but I did undergo quite a hiatus just a few months after I started blogging… Summer 2007 IIRC, where I basically skipped out on ALL the Summer offerings (while in Japan, oh the irony) and halfheartedly blogged the 2-cour series I’ve been following from the previous season. It was not apparent since other co-bloggers filled in the blogging gap (and technically speaking I still was blogging, sporadically), but I personally felt the uhm, emptiness? I’m just glad I made it through that ‘twilight stage’ of blogging, wouldn’t want to experience it again.
Lastly, Epic Win need to POST MOAR before their resurrection becomes totally ‘official’
Agree with Myssa Rei and usagijen. Many people start out full of passion, then work catches up to them. Things start going downhill from there.
I too started blogging once I began work, so I don’t have as much regular updates as I’d like, but that’s life. I think I should call my blog ‘The Weekends’ or something, seeing as pretty much all our updates are done then.
I always take hiatus every now and then whenever my midterms is coming up and I’m still alive until now. The hiatus break is often 3 weeks long. Even though I post blog status entries, I always delete them afterwards XD
@th, my blog is similar with yours I think. I frequently post only during Fri and Sat. Rarely, even Sunday because I cram that day to do schoolwork. ;P
I’ve come back from hiatus multiple times. I think I’m up to 4 now. And I’ll be back again.
