Summary:

Ever since Makina saved Kasuka Nozomi from a shikabane, Nozomi has been trying to track Makina down (and date her). After Nozomi sees Ouri with Makina, however, Nozomi is able to get Ushijima Hiroshige to introduce her to Ouri. Ouri can’t help but grope Nozomi, but in the end Makina ends up siding with Ouri and telling Nozomi to give up the unhealthy obsession with death. The change of heart is a result of Makina’s chat with Keisei about Ouri’s past.

It seems that 3 years ago, Keisei found Ouri and Ouri didn’t know how to eat, interact with people, feel, etc. One day Ouri adopted a cat from the riverbank and gradually became more human; naturally the cat gets run over less than one minute into the flashback. From then on, Ouri understood death and Keisei told him that, “All we can do for dead is remember them and cry.” Oddly from then on the cat began to haunt Ouri (although the cat claims to be Ouri), and very few people seem to be able to see the cat.

Reaction:

It was too bad that Inuhiko Mizuki tried to get everyone to help her again, but Hiroshige was too obsessed about making Nozomi his O-mune-sama (sacred breasts). Ouri didn’t exactly seem immune to Nozomi’s charms either, which was a change from the typical bland Ouri. The question of Ouri’s true identity is a delicious mystery, and I was intrigued at how Akasha and Makina were able to see Ouri’s cat. The flashback raised just as many questions as it answered, but it was amusing to learn that Keisei leveled Ouri up the way you would level up a Sim.

Nozomi was actually a pretty flimsy vehicle for the episode, but I didn’t mind it too much. The groping fanservice was dumb too, though it was a different side to Ouri. Ouri was clearly going for the boobs anyway, since the cat was sitting on Nozomi’s shoulders (though the cat was also sorta copping a feel). With Ouri’s reflexes and the cat’s shikabane-esque plethora of eyes, the end result was incredibly predictable.

Nozomi was a surprise, that’s for sure. Me thinks she’ll be all over Oori soon though.

I can’t help but wonder if Ouri is perhaps Makina’s brother. That picture that Makina has is all burnt up, and Keisei is quite devoted to Makina (and Ouri as well).
