Summary:
On the first day of school, Mariya won’t let Kanako change in private and Kanako is upset that she has to change under a blanket. In a moment of feigned kindness, Mariya pats Kanako on the head and leaves the room, but this leaves Kanako covered in hives and unable to attend breakfast anyway. When Kanako finally gets to class, she meets young HR teacher Kumagai “Kuma-tan” Fumi, who knew Kanako’s mom in junior high.
Transfer students are rare, and Kanako quickly gets friendly with maganekko Kiri Nanami, bright and cheerful Momoi Sachi, and archery club member Inamori Yuzuru. During the boring speeches by student council members, Mariya covers for Kanako’s growling stomach and this raises Mariya’s popularity even further. However, it is clear that Mariya has a bad relationship with childhood rival Shiki Ayari. Finally we get a scene where Mariya tricks Ryuuken into thinking that the roommate change was to protect Kanako from Ryuuken’s crazed theater club stalkers.
Reaction:
This was a moderately boring episode, but I’m willing to look past that due to the sweet OP. Although the CG Kanako mannequins were crappy and the Source-esque physics brought back bad memories, there were a lot of really cool moments. I liked seeing Mariya skipping on the ladders and kicking buckets, the Kanako mannequins rolled into a Katamari, and Matsurika being played like a guitar. I also noticed that the dorms in Ame no Kisaki have crazy ugly stained glass doors; I was reminded of the SOS-dan logo.
Mariya was the main draw in this episode with her many manipulative and evil moments. I too want to know the mystery of her connection with Ayari, since Ayari may know Mariya’s secret. However, it didn’t seem like Ayari knew Mariya was male, and yet it bothered Mariya enough to consider doubling up in fake cup size. That would have gotten the whole school talking and Kanako probably would have exploded in a bisexual fit, so it’s good that Matsurika was the calm voice of reason. Kanako should probably rent the 13 volumes (36 hours!) of Dorm Leader’s dorm rules videos to calm down.

Kanako is fine the way she is, I’d like her to remain the raging lesbian that she is. Now to get rid of this Mariya, then we can have some real fun as Kanako is let loose upon the school to do whatever she wishes.

Too much Kanako ranting and nose-bleeding in this episode and not enough Maria. The OP was the highlight for me… Matsuriko guitar FTW!!!
I didn’t think it was boring at all (maybe just a bit low-key), but then again, I’m a sucker for all the Shaft quirkiness. :4

Kanako’s cry for help in the form of the OP was the true highlight of the second episode. Loved the nosebleed domino effect myself. :love:
I’m kinda sad that they put seaweed in the bag. IIRC, in the manga Kanako got a tentacle monster instead (which she decided to keep… :blush: ).

To keep the subject back on Maria Holic, I really like the shading effect they have on their lips/other body parts. Its weird, and it might seem annoying, but I like it. And no, it doesn’t have to do with the fact that a certain H-tai used the same technique… good times :love:
And to keep the topic off Maria Holic, (and you don’t have to answer because I’m still a stalker at heart) I’m now sort of curious what your nationality is. Even though my last pun was spanish, you were able to understand it (well yea, its just simple spanish, but at the same time, it wasn’t really grammatically correct spanish ^_^)! Perhaps you just have that ability to understand all puns? :3 I clearly have a long way to go! :blush:
