Shikabane Hime: Aka 07

Summary:

Sadahiro reminisces about the massive battle 5 years ago when a powerful shikabane nearly wiped out an entire expedition force. Akasha was the only survivor, and when backup CP arrived on the scene, they found him hugging the severed top half of his shikabane hime. While Keisei is out of commission, Shuuji and Minai are the interim replacements. Shuuji is very excited at the chance at a promotion. Through several incidents we see that Shuuji treats Minai terribly and yet despite all his anti-shikabane hime talk, he still tries to make out with Minai when he sees her trembling red lips.

Mitsuyoshi is this week’s shikabane, and he used to be a dork who was bullied by the kendo club. Since then, his blog has turned from video games to violent vigilantism. Sumitori was worried about Mitsuyoshi and told Ouri the rumor, so Ouri lures Mitsuyoshi out by trolling his blog. Shuuji spots the two and sends Minai in. Mitsuyoshi is able to reflect any attack, but Shuuji does not care that Minai is getting terribly beaten up. Ouri helps Minai out and cheers her up, and Makina also arrives to help (since she can shoot Mitsuyoshi’s right arm without taking damage). However, the battle continues next episode.

Reaction:

I liked all the shikabane hime info we got this episode. There was some mischievousness, like when Akira gave Sadahiro a sharp elbow for being a poor liar and Makina got pissed when Ouri asked if she was dating Keisei. However, the emotions went a lot deeper, and it’s clear that Akasha really loved his shikabane hime considering they went into battle holding hands. This is pretty much the opposite of Minai and Shuuji, but I guess Minai is still feeling guilty about how she became a shikabane hime (killing a man and then committing suicide).

The Shuuji -Minai dynamic was so bad it was almost comical. It looks like Shuuji pretty much treats everyone like crap, but he treats Minai especially bad because she’s hot and dead. Shuuji was acting pretty tough against those punks he was questioning, but I wonder how strong he really is, since he didn’t do much against Mitsuyoshi. On a different note, I noticed that Rika was actually covered up for once when she was giving Takamasa his upgraded bow.

Rika being covered up and all out in the open seems to be as random as a coin toss. Not that that’s a bad thing either way.

I was surprised Rika was a bishop. The other bishops are all covered up and hanging out with super powerful shikabane himes, and she is prancing around in her underwear with a hammer-loli.
