Summary:
Hatchin buys a map from Toni Kaka/Barcia Borcz that leads pilgrims to a statue of the Virgin Mary that cries tears of blood. Praying before this statue supposedly makes your dreams come true, but at the moment Hatchin is hungry and broke. Luckily, Hatchin gets chosen as a fake boyfriend by Rita Ozzetti to avoid Rita’s ex, Massan. Even after finding out that Hatchin is a girl, Rita helps Hatchin out and shows Hatchin to the Circo de Chocolate. Rita’s part of an act there, and she has a crush on costar Gino Costando.
Unfortunately, Rita is only 10 years old and Gino has already impregnated his hot girlfriend Natalie. Gino is planning to leave the circus to be a dad, and Rita is not happy to find this out from Hatchin. The young girls go to the statue, but it has been replaced (someone took the head off the old statue). Rita is upset but eventually accepts that Gino will leave. Hatchin can’t help but be a little worried about Michiko, but decides to tag along with Rita for a little while longer.
Reaction:
Well, the bit about Davi making it out safely last episode was a lie since the police found his remains. This episode has Hatchin joining the circus, but I couldn’t help but wonder if Rita was meant to parallel Michiko. Gino ditched Rita to hang out with his pregnant girlfriend, and Michiko is not Hatchin’s mother. Will Michiko find Hiroshi only to find out that he doesn’t love her anymore? I also noticed that Rita claimed to be too mature to believe in miracles, but she was really upset to find that the statue had been replaced.
The rest of this episode brought back fond Kaleido Star memories, only with more jailbait and fewer horoscopes. Will Hatchin learn some sweet moves and become a true star, or will she be stuck on janitor duty? Either way, I noticed Hatchin is back to using “Hana” as her name… stage name! Although Hatchin is great as a straight man character, I’m ready to go back to Michiko’s story since it’s much more entertaining.

Too bad that Hatchin is so shy. She’d make a great standard harem lead, the pathetic sort I mean. What I didn’t quite understand, what kind of silly gender test did Rita use? Is there a difference between a 10 year old boy and 10 year old DFC? I’m too old to research this myself legally but I would have aimed much lower.
Rita was sure meant as younger Michiko albeit I didn’t think it through as far as you did.
Crotch checks are underrated.
How about “I thought your zipper was open”? While we’re at it, “I think the string is hanging out” has to be the most underhanded WTF moment in anime EVAR.
Doesn’t the string always hang out? It’s not like it was so long it was hanging out of her skirt… What I suspect Rita was saying was that it was her first time trying out a tampon in an attempt to be more adult. I laughed at Hatchin’s glum face after Rita’s comment, though.
I’ve only pulled a tampon out once in my life. Judging from this sample size, I’d say, yes, in 100% of all cases. It’s not like anyone wanted to know. I guess what she meant was, the string was hanging out of her string. If you’re paranoid you could knot some weight on it or a christmas tree bulb.

For some reason the way Rita press-ganged Hatchin for her new “boyfriend” rather reminded me of how Chiaki WTF-dragooned Touma into becoming her “younger” “brother” in Minami-ke… just done with more straight assertion than “Chewbacca Defense” confuse-o-talk.
Did he ever? I can understand Hiroshi, but I don’t feel like I remember hearing something like that before.
