Kabitzin’s September 2008 List

Kabitzin on September 30, 2008 · in Progress Sheets

Whoa, I almost missed the month entirely! It’s been an extra-long time between this and the previous progress sheet, but it was a great month of anime. This was mostly due to the underrated series from spring, as I was kinda disappointed with many of the summer shows. Now we’re in that limbo period in between seasons; I’ve amassed enough of a backlog to make it through the limbo period, but it will be exciting when the fall season starts up. Almost all of my series that I am blogging will have ended, so it’ll be fun to hop on and start mocking some new series.

Top Five This Month:

  1. Code Geass R2: This series had an awesome end and has been the very model of consistency. The best part is that since C.C. is still traveling around, they could always do a spinoff with a non-Lelouch main character. Isn’t it funny how Anya went to Marianne’s house to learn some manners only to get hijacked by Marianne and then hijacked again by Jeremiah?
  2. Xam’d: Lost Memories: So far the pacing, the story, and the characters have all been excellent. I can’t help but wonder, however, what would happen if you got shot in the willy with a hiruko? Speaking of which, Furuichi is such a jerk that he makes an awesome pseudo-antagonist.
  3. Soul Eater: Noooooo, Nurse-mode Medusa! Oh well, the ending of the arc was fun and now it’s time to meet the Death Scythes. How come the top Weapons get to patrol huge tracts of land while the top Meisters just end up becoming professors?
  4. Real Drive: Although rarely very exciting, Real Drive tells some interesting stories. I’m still a bit behind, but I’ve been enjoying Minamo’s adventures.
  5. Macross Frontier: The final episode did just enough to keep this series in my top 5. I was hoping for more from this series, but at least we got loli-Klan Klein piloting Mikhail’s VF-25 and sniping.

Rising:

  • Blassreiter: I even enjoyed the flashback episodes. The gattai of the various Zwolf mecha was hilarious and so cheesy. I also enjoyed how Hermann got sidetracked by the 666 bike, even though that had nothing to do with his plot for revenge.

Falling:

  • Birdy the Mighty Decode: Ugh… I am hoping I can just make it through the last few episodes and wrap this up. This series has been no fun at all, and most of the blame falls on Tsutomu.
  • Zero no Tsukaima 3: I’m glad this latest sequel has ended. There were no cool battles or cliffhangers at the end of this series, and the whole ride was kinda bland and pointless. You could probably skip 8-9 episodes from this season and still go into next season without any problems.

Code Geass? Consistent? Debatable, but it HAS been an enjoyable and fun watch during its run, and that’s what is important.

Consistently entertaining, not consistently logical. Perhaps I should have been more specific ;)

I miss Real Drive. To be honest I’m not sure if it ended or the subbing just kinda stopped. Seems my anime lately has been lacking… fullness?

hijacked again by Jeremiah

At least she managed to get leave to attend Ougi x Viletta’s Western wedding. Excellent head dress for that.

Real Drive has 25 episodes, I believe, but subbing has been slow. It’s not really a “can’t wait to see what happens next episode!” kinda series at least. We could use more full-bodied shows.

I’d install a lojack on Anya, because you never know when she might get hijacked again.

Whaat? Is Birdy Decode really that bad? The OVA was lots of old-school-like fun too! I’ll await ur final review before dippin ma fingers in da fried chicken, ya knaw wham’ sayin’?

Xam’d: Lost Memories is deff my current favorite. The new anime season (or current season since it already started I guess) might knock it off, but I’ll deff be watching this. Btw, not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere, but did anyone notice that the would-be-girlfriend girl (I believe her name is Haru) looks alot like the would-be-girlfriend of Shinkurou from Kurenai (…forgot her name)? Theres just that chubbyness of the cheeks that turn me on!

lojack…hijacked

…wow… I never noticed the relation! Now I feel dumb :(
