How To Defib A Dead Horse

by Kabitzin on July 24, 2008 in This Week I Enjoyed

From Otou-san:

So I reached out to some animu bloggers in America — people you probably know — to get their takes on this issue that just doesn’t seem to want to go away.

The fansub topic is one that comes up in cycles, and I’ve already said my piece before. I think we are way past the point of “Is it right?” Fansubbing and piracy (different things in my opinion) are a reality, and changes are needed. I like the direction that Otou-san is taking with this, as he is surveying others (including some really brilliant and handsome bloggers) about how they feel they would fix the anime industry. I’m really looking forward to seeing what others have come up with as potential solutions.

I actually had intended to avoid the “fansub topic” as much as possible, but whether or not it’s the primary problem with the flagging anime racket, it’s something that’s inextricably tied to it and I guess it’s inevitable that it’s gonna get brought up.

Anyway, thanks for the shout and thanks for providing my first response!

Barring wacky Frankenstein-style hijinks and magic, there’s no way to revive a dead horse.

I’ve heard horse meat is very very delicious, though. Dwarves apparently love horse meat, along with cat and dog meat :3

otou-san: I made the change and I agree it is a somewhat-subtle but important distinction.

DrmChr0: Technically I said “defib” which does not by itself imply success.

It looks interesting – I’d rather see potential solutions than finger pointing. It’d be nice if companies listened…it seems that they’re not.

Even more technical, a dead horse is already fully defibbed. A defibrillator actually stops a heart that is only flickering but no longer pumping by means of an eletric shock. It’s a common misconption that a defibrilliator revives dead people. If the heart has stopped beating there’s absolutely no point in using one. You have to use a cardiac massage after using the defribrilliator unless the heart gets spontaneously back in sync on its own.

I totally did not know that, even though I got training in how to use an AED. In class, the instructor stressed to us how important it was to destroy any underwire in our way. Obviously this is very important to know if you are going to defib a horse.

Do we get free food?

Depends on where and how you live. But, yes, for the longest time in history food was completely free, you only had to collect and prepare it.
