Latest WordPress upgrade went very smoothly, and the list of changes can be found here. So far, it looks pretty much the same (and WP2.6 is not supposed to break any themes or plugins). I’ve noticed the subtle word count that updates with each autosave, and it’s probably good that it doesn’t update in real-time (could be distracting). I liked the plugin notification bubble so that I don’t have to check the plugin page all the time. The plugin page now splits up the active and inactive plugins, which is a long-overdue change. I also noticed they added even more secret keys to the wp-config.php file.
I’ve never used the image uploader before, but I liked that captions have been built in. Anyone try out the Turbo Gears yet?

I like the idea of the word counter – I try (but not necessarily succeed) to keep my word count to under 1000 for the sake of my readers so that’ll be the first positive change that I’ll find useful.
Other than that, I just upgraded because I’m paranoid about keeping my security measures up to scratch…
They’ve definitely been putting more emphasis on security, especially after some of those sql injection scares (or whatever). It used to be you could carry your old wp-config file with each upgrade, but now you always have to check it to see if they added new options or cookie handling procedures.
Bawww, I’m like 3 versions behind everyone, and everytime I try to upgrade the whole site breaks. /wrist
Hmmm, what problems are you having with it? Perhaps if you disable all plugins first, that might allow you to upgrade successfully?
I guess they’ve been bestowing their wealth onto their “cousin?” wordpress.com, as that started cropping up about a week or two ago. Saves me from having to code title tags for Firefox users.
I might upgrade this weekend but I honestly have no use for the extra features.

I’ve actually approached it from several angles, and they all include disabling plugins, but to no avail. When the planets align themselves, I’ll try again sometime in the future.
When you say it breaks, how does it break? If you are having trouble logging in or seeing the site, usually you have to add some rules to the .htaccess file. Well let me know if you decide to try again =D.
Usually the upgrade process itself is fine. It’s only when I return to the main page things start to go wrong; I see it for about the first 2-3 seconds before it magically disappears on me. Accessing the admin page itself is fine though.
@ Shin – if the issue is the ‘vanishing’ static pages (WP2.6 has a bug that affects them), try going to settings > permalinks > optional (bottom of the page). Populate the Category base with something cool like ‘categories’, and the Tag base with ‘tags’. Save changes and reload. Your mileage may vary.
