ABA People’s Choice Awards Released

Kabitzin on June 6, 2008 · in Random Stuff

Even though it’s 5 days late, I was pleased to finally see the results of the 2008 ABA People’s Choice Awards. All the winners were very deserving, and I’m glad Impz was able to turn the results around so quickly (after some pestering).

I was really eager to see how readers would vote. I think sometimes there is a bit of a disconnect between what the blogosphere thinks and what readers think. It’s sorta like how some movies can be critically acclaimed and yet flop in sales. Like Impz, I was a little surprised that THAT won for Best Manga Blog, but the other choices make sense. Some of the categories are considerably more niche than others, and in those categories it seems that large sites with a section on Niche X did better than small sites devoted to Niche X. However, this should simply be inspiration to grow your small site and come back for an epic battle next year!

I wonder if the committee should implement a rule to make it so a blog cannot win the same award two years in a row. This may keep interest in the awards higher, since the list of winners will be different every year. In general I think the ABA have been run well, although sometimes the deadlines were missed. I think the website could have been a little easier to use as well, and perhaps the categories should be refined a bit. Still, it’s hard to be too critical of a first-year venture, so thanks to the committee and congrats to all the winners!

Hey, considering I came back 2 days ago after a 3 week absence (great vacation), I think I rushed it out well. I blame my lazy committee members. YAY TO IMPZ.

Oh, feedback is important. We are already going to implement the “the same winner is not allowed” rule for 2 years in a row. No one wants to see George Bush 8 years, but that’s what poor americans have to suffer from.

Oh, wait for the blogger’s choice. Some of the results ….are interesting and definitely quite different. Yes, I already have the prelimenary results, but I have to double check for invalid votes for the bloggers.

I gave you your props Impz! You got the results fast (after vacation), and you tirelessly sent out all those emails.

I’m also intrigued to see the blogger choices, although I’m not sure a gold, silver, and bronze award are necessary.

I blame my lazy committee members.

More like all of us decided to move away from using the Internet at the same time. I was saying that summer break = no constant internet, if any at all. So I’d say blame timing more than anything else. But laziness did play a little role I guess as well. :V

But great job at getting things up. :3

*sniff* I’LL STAY BY YOUR SIDE FOREVER SEA SLUGS *puts salt on it*! If you think about it, salt shouldn’t affect a sea slug right? Cause like, they basically live in salt water… right?

Aww, I bet you say that to all the team blogs.

Your question is an interesting one. I bet sea slugs are ok with dilute salt water, but regular salt might mess them up.

Dolfins prefer salty water too.

Oh, and if you guys didn’t know, Dolphin was the original codename for the Gamecube… thats why I said Chris made a Nintendo reference =3

That explains the colour of the Gamecube’s logo. It does indeed look like a very abstract dolfin.
