Summary:
Asahina Hikaru claims to be researching libraries and the current administration, but uses his research as a way to hit on Asako. Asahina-san even comes up with some lame bet to get Asako to go to dinner with him, and although Asako didn’t agree to the bet, she is curious enough to accept the invitation. When she gets there, however, Asahina-san tells her that he has learned that Musashino First Library has been disposing of books unjustly. Asako consults Iku, before telling Asahina-san to allow the story to be published.
Unfortunately, it seems that this is all a game being played by the upstart Library Future Planning Group. The LFPG is headed by Hikaru’s estranged older brother Satoshi, and seems to have some insidious plans. The next day when the story hits, Atsushi learns that co-worker Sunagawa-san has been implicated in the unjust book-burning and has named Iku as his accomplice. SMG-wielding soldiers might be scary, but they are nothing compared to old guys who try to trap you with wordplay!
Reaction:
This episode definitely redeemed the last episode. First off, we got more Asako action, and that is always a plus. It was nice seeing her friendship with Iku and her honest decision to let her organization face justice. I wonder if Asako was excited about her date or if she just takes extra care to look nice, but I was surprised that Iku picked up on the extra skin care steps. Speaking of Iku, I loved the scenes where Iku was railing about Sunagawa-san’s critical Straight To The Point book review blog. The idea of Iku wanting to censor Sunagawa-san’s censuring was highly ironic.
Meanwhile, this LFPG makes things a great deal more interesting. The LDF-MCF fight was kinda silly and stale, but having a third group manipulating things behind the scenes gives the conflict a needed spice. I was not as pleased about Satoshi trying to recruit his little brother, but at least it tied into the previous episode when Hikaru phoned in a favor to get the MCF to back off. I’m excited to see what happens next time, although I can’t imagine there being a point to interrogating Iku. Iku is way too dopey to do anything sneaky, and she doesn’t have anything to hide. Perhaps the LFPG has planted evidence to set her up…
