Hello Kitty Is Silently Seething

by Kabitzin on March 20, 2008 in Random Stuff

Japan has created an unusual government post to promote animation, and named a perfect figure Wednesday to the position: a popular cartoon robot cat named Doraemon.

So I guess there’s a new anime ambassador. I’m a little skeptical since Doraemon has no ears, but then again Hello Kitty has no mouth. Also, isn’t Doraemon considered kinda low-quality by his peers?

Hello Kitty is created by the Japanese, but she is technically British according to her character background. That’s why Doraemon win over her as an ambassador. :P

Someone like Lelouch would have been a better ambassador. :P

Hey, don’t knock Doraemon! I grew up with him around, and he was pretty good escapism… better than the voiceless iconic existence of Hello Kitty at any rate.

I liked Doraemon too, but he seems like he would be easily bribed. Also, while on paper Lelouch would be a good ambassador, his last attempt at negotiating a truce didn’t go that well…

Finally, I did not know that Hello Kitty was British. Shouldn’t she be Cheerio Kitty then?

I think Cheerio is more of a goodbye than a hello. At least it seems that way on TV.

I think Cheerio is actually the British equivalent of Aloha, that is it can be both a greeting and a parting.

I think the British way of saying hello is “Hello.”

Doraemon had his ears eaten by a mouse. That’s why he’s afraid of them.

The mice, that is.

I grew up on Doraemon. On the anime and on the manga. I think it’s worth being the mascot because it is one of the most popular anime characters every kid (at least in asia) can relate to (aside from Goku from Dragonball).

I would have thought Lacus Clyne to be the better ambassador. But I guess I can see why they’d want to distance themselves from GSD.
